The Disc Golf Pro Tour, the official pro tour of the PDGA, is excited to unveil a first look at its 2024 season schedule. The North American tour schedule, alongside the 2024 PDGA Pro Major schedule, represents a large majority of the events that will earn points toward the 2024 DGPT Championship. A separate schedule of DGPT points-earning events based in Europe will be announced at a later date.

There will be a total of 18 DGPT tournaments in the U.S. next season, including four DGPT+ Events, two Playoff Events, and the DGPT Championship, which will again return to Charlotte, NC.

The 2024 season will mark the end of the DGPT’s use of the Silver Event designation in the United States. All U.S.-based DGPT tournaments in 2024 will carry the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Elite Series designation. As a result, all tournaments will be simply referred to as a DGPT Event and will be worth at least 100 points for a win. Some U.S. Silver Events from previous seasons will be included in a DGPT Qualifying Series schedule that will allow players an additional opportunity to earn their Tour Card for the following season. Additional information about the Qualifying Series and plans for previous Silver Events will be made available this off-season.

“The 2024 season schedule is about making the best events in the World even better while delivering our best geographic route for ease of touring travel yet,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “We’re focusing on elevating eighteen of North America's most prominent and loved events to a higher level not just for players, but also for fans as we cultivate an even better experience both onsite and online."

The 2024 DGPT points system comprises four event classes with a simplified naming scheme and will award tour points at four weighted intervals.

Full details on how many events from each class will count towards an individual player’s season-long points totals will be announced after the European event schedule is released. Additionally, plans for the continuation of the United Series, which debuted in 2023, will be made available during the off-season.

DGPT+ and Playoffs

The Portland Open and the Ledgestone Open are set to return as DGPT+ Events. The Discraft Great Lakes Open and the Waco Annual Charity Open - which adds another course and a 4th round - have also been elevated to DGPT+ status. The DGPT playoffs will also return, with the Green Mountain Championship and the MVP Open at Maple Hill taking place back to back in late September. Playoffs will again meet similar added cash standards of DGPT+ events and will continue to play a significant role in determining which players qualify for the DGPT Championship. More information on playoff cut lines and qualification metrics will be released at a later date.

“DGPT plus events and the DGPT playoffs have been a great success to date,” Spring continued. “Thanks in large part to these events, we’ve broken records in 2023 with over $1.4 million of added cash and over $2.5 million in event prize purses awarded at DGPT-run events. The increased allocation of points down the home stretch has also helped to create exciting finishes in the DGPT Point Series and driven growth in purses. We’re excited to continue growing these events in 2024 and deliver more total points, enhanced media coverage, and great experiences on-site for fans.”

2024 Changes

A new event, the Florida Open, will open the 2024 DGPT season in the Southeast and take place at Gran Canyon, the highest-rated course in Florida (according to UDisc). This change aligns with long-term planning and Tour Card Holder support for limiting cross-country travel each season.

The Texas State Championship and the Beaver State Fling have been elevated from their previous Silver Event status and will join eight more returning DGPT Events for a total of 18 tournaments that will make up the core of the 2024 Tour.

Finally, the DGPT is excited to host its 4th annual All-Star Weekend to kick off the season; this exhibition event will move to Orlando, Florida, and run the weekend before the first DGPT event of the season in nearby Brooksville. More information about All-Star Weekend will be available soon when tickets and lodging go on sale for fans.
