A Grand Slam, a season at the top of the leaderboard and breakout performances defined the 2023 PDGA Player and Rookie of the Year honors.

Kristin Tattar turned in one of the most dominant seasons in disc golf history in 2023, grabbing titles at all four PDGA Majors, including her second-straight PDGA World Championship. On the Elite Series, Tattar won five times on the Disc Golf Pro Tour and didn’t finish outside of sixth place. She added three more A-Tier wins, including the 2023 European Disc Golf Championship.

In 21 events in 2023, Tattar won 12 times.

Calvin Heimburg lived on top of the leaderboard in 2023. It started with a win at the DGPT – Las Vegas Challenge and another Elite Series win at the Jonesboro Open. He was in contention at nearly every stop the rest of the year, finishing on the podium at 10 more events. He finished in the top five at three of the four PDGA Majors as well.

With their dominant and consistent efforts, Tattar and Heimburg have been named the PDGA Players of the Year for the first time in both of their careers.

Breakout is the only way to describe the 2023 PDGA Rookies of the Year.

In 2022, Paul Krans closed out his amateur career with a PDGA Amateur World Championship and second-place finish at the 2023 USADGC. In his second professional start in a PDGA Major, Krans notched a top 20 finish at the 2023 PDGA Champions Cup and picked up three A-Tier wins and two more podiums the rest of the year.

Morgan Lynds jumped into disc golf in a big way in 2022, competing in 29 total events, a total that included nine cashes in FPO events after her one and only trip to Am Worlds. She continued that success in her home state of Florida in 2023 with three A-Tier wins and four more finishes on the podium at events that drew some big names. Her 21st-place finish at the 2023 USWDGC marked her highest finish at a PDGA Pro Major in her young career.

Isaac Robinson, a two-time PDGA Major winner in 2023, finished second in the MPOY race, 50 points behind Heimburg. Robinson, the reigning PDGA World Champion, won the PDGA Champions Cup, had a podium finish at the USDGC and six more top-five finishes on the DGPT. Gannon Buhr finished third in the standings.

In FPO, it was another ageless year for Ohn Scoggins, who finished second behind Tattar. Scoggins finished second at the PDGA Champions Cup and the USWDGC on the Major schedule. She grabbed her first Elite Series win at DGLO and had seven podium finishes on the Elite Series. Scoggins went 2-for-2 at the PDGA Masters Majors with another FP40 World Championship and win at the U.S. Masters, neither of which factor into the FPO points standings. Missy Gannon finished third in the points race.

PDGA Player and Rookie of the Year awards are based on player’s finishes in PDGA Majors, Elite Series and A-Tier events from January 1 through December 31. Top 10 finishes at Majors and Elite Series events are weighted higher, and top three finishes at A-Tier events are included in the formula.
