2004 PDGA Tour Points System
PDGA Tour Points are accumulated during the calendar year (January-December), and used to determine invitations to the following year's World Championships and other Major events. Each year the PDGA awards obelisks and touring player pins to the top points earners.
PDGA Tour Points are awarded to current member players in all divisions at PDGA Tour events. Players compete for Pro or Amateur points at all events except World Championships and Majors.
Please see the attached chart for the Points Factors used, based on the level of a player’s division, and on the event tier. The Points Factor represents the number of points to be awarded for each player beaten or tied within a player’s division. No points are awarded when a player fails to complete an event, or when a player competes in a division for which they are ineligible.
Here are some examples:
If you beat or tie 24 players in the Pro Open division at a National
Tour event, you will receive (24 + yourself) x 10 points = 250 Pro
Points.
If you beat or tie 37 players in the Advanced division at an A Tier
event, you will receive (37 + yourself) x 10 points = 380 Amateur
Points.
If you beat or tie 6 players in the Advanced Grandmaster division
at a B Tier event, you will receive (6 players + yourself) x 4.5
points = 27 Amateur Points.
If you beat or tie 2 players in the Junior Girls < 16 division
at a C Tier event, you will receive (2 players + yourself) x 1.5
points = 5 Amateur Points (rounded up from 4.5).
In turn, Player Points will be listed and ranked on the PDGA database, by age group and state/province. In this manner, a male Pro player age 52 will have all his points credited to Pro Grandmaster, regardless of whether he competes as Pro Open, Pro Master or Pro Grandmaster. Similarly, a female Amateur player age 43 will have all her points credited to Amateur Master Women, even when she plays with the men at her same level or at a higher level.
This system simplifies the accumulation of points, extends points to all levels of player, and encourages players to play up in division. For example, Juniors can accumulate more points by competing in Intermediate or Advanced Amateur, where there will be more players and tougher competition. Another benefit of this system is that it enables players in the lower Amateur divisions who compete often to accumulate enough points to qualify for the Amateur World Championships.
PDGA Tour Player statistics, including points and pro cash won, are updated monthly at www.pdga.com.
