ECs Day Two

Jesper Lundmark’s 5 down 57 this afternoon at Olhain vaulted him into a share of the Open division lead with Denmark’s Karl Johan Nybo after 3 rounds at the 2010 European Championships. At 170 and 14 under par they sit 4 throws clear of Germany’s Simon Lizotte and a full 8 throws ahead of Markus Källström in 4th. Simon is in fact the only non-Scandinavian player among the top 22 shooters in Open.

While the focus is primarily on the 120 players competing in MPO, the biggest story continues to be 16 year old Seppo Paju from Finland. At lunchtime today, after all divisions had played the super long and mostly open Olhain course and the tighter Wingles layout once each, Seppo held a share of the Olhain course record (55) and the outright Wingles course record, courtesy of a sizzling 51 on Friday morning. At that point he was 4 in front of the Open division lead, and cruising towards victory with a tidy 15 throw advantage in MJ1 division. Pool Cs 3rd round, which also includes the Masters and Grandmasters, tees off at 7 AM on Saturday.
Norway's Espen Mokkelgjerd has the only 3 on Ohlain's 246m #15
Far throwing Camilla Jernberg continues to set the Women’s pace, leading by 4 over defending Champion Birgitta Lagerholm. Anke Frantz and Niloo Mossavar Rahmani round out an all Swedish lead card.

It is in the veterans divisions that the Continental Euros are faring best. Belgium’s Marco Lehousse is 4 in front of Germany’s Michael Kobella in MPM, while Switzerland’s Paul Francz and France’s Bob Mohl lead by 8 in MPG and MPS respectively.

In the meantime the players and volunteers are sitting down to another superb regional French dinner at tournament headquarters and enjoying the camaraderie of being with friends from many countries at this, Europe’s biggest event of the year.
