Disc Golf Foundation College Matching Baskets Program

The Disc Golf Foundation (DGF) supports educational programs and the promotion and development of amateur athletics, specifically disc golf. One such program is the matching baskets program. The program: The DGF agrees to donate 9 baskets if an approved college purchases 9 baskets at retail price and shipping for all 18 baskets and agrees to install and maintain the course on college property.

What is required: A proposal sent to the Disc Golf Foundation. To contact the Disc Golf Foundation about a proposal, send a request via the pdga.com Contact page (select "Matching Baskets Program").

  1. Only colleges will be eligible for this program.
  2. Golf course must be open to the public.
  3. Land for course must be on college property and land needs to have been approved by college, and if Grant is awarded the college must install the course within one year.
  4. A qualified designer must be involved. The DGF is happy to help locate your local Professional who may be able to advise.
  5. A financial plan must be presented.
  6. Tee pads, Signage, Message Board, and Trash Cans are recommended.

What is covered: 9 baskets.

What is not covered: The rest. Other 9 baskets at retail price, tee signs, tee pads, design, installation, maintenance, shipping, etc.

The DGF has made arrangements to offer three different disc golf baskets: either the Mach V by DGA, the DISCatcher by Innova-Champion, or the Chain Star by Discraft Inc. at the option of the college, but only one set of 9 baskets per year per company will be offered. The DGF is also happy to assist the college with referrals for design and planning of the course.

The DGF interest is the best promotion of disc golf. The more students or members of the general public who have access to the course, the more attractive the particular location is for this purpose. The DGF is committed to assisting in the installation of courses.

The program began in 1997 and, to date, courses have been installed at:

  • 1997 Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky
  • 1997 Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota
  • 1998 Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho
  • 1999 University of Wisconsin - Parkdale
  • 1999 University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
  • 1999 Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa
  • 1999 Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania
  • 2002 University of Southern Indiana Evansville, Indiana
  • 2002 Pearl River Community College, Poplarville, Mississippi

Once a college or university has decided to make application to the matching baskets program, the college authors a letter to DGF. When a proposal has been formulated and sent to the DGF, the DGF Board of Directors will discuss and make a decision. There is no application form at this time, just a request for consideration. A time up to 6 months may occur for making decisions as it will be voted on at a Board Meeting.

If you have not already received the PDGA's information packet on promoting a disc golf course, you can get one from the PDGA office by sending a request to the Administrator from the PDGA Contact page.

Thank you for your interest in the PDGA and disc golf.
