You have an awesome avatar my friend.

As far as the discs go, I know the Dragon and the Hydra float.

Seems like I have heard of others. But I have never liked a "floater" mold.

Just play safe, throw for the High ground. :D

...I thought they were phasing out the Bulldog name, and then making it with Hydra floating plastic, and then keeping the Hydra name...

150 Eagles & Vikings float, as well as a lot of other 150-class plastic, even though it isn't advertised as an asset.

I lost a 150g Viking in a pond. It floated straight to the bottom. :D

The hydra and bulldog were pretty much the same disc(very small difference). The hydra floats, and some bulldogs float.

Anyone try a quarter K? I justy bought one 164grm on ebay because I heard they float. I throw Hydras for short water holes when you need putter-mid control and are great putters for doubles putt runs when the water is behind the pin.

If you can, get a #2 Driver or #2 Hyzer (depending on how much stability you like) in the translucent stiff glow plastic. I swear that stuff is more durable than Prostyle...

just throw a disc that will land underneath the basket...unless the basket is underwater! :D

Bulldogs have a deeper lip, other than that they are very similar...except for the plastic. ;)

I have never found a floating disc that was worth a lick of salt. In my experience, they have all been garbage.

I've had this problem before....there was a flash flood out at an old course in NW Arkansas (Gulley Park) that had a hole where a basket set down just on the other side of a creek (Hole 5). Well, I through it, should have parked it, and when I got down to the creek, I realized it was 15 ft wider than it should be, and all I could see was the top half of the basket; the rest was underwater. Bye bye teebird :(. It dosn't matter if a disc floats if the water is moving at 20 miles/hour!

I found, like pretty much everyone else, that floating discs aren't really all they're cracked up to be. I started with a Dragon when I was a beginner, and it was great; I could throw it far. Days later, I couldn't throw it straight anymore. I tried some Lightning discs, and for a beginner, they actually throw fairly straight up to ~300ft. I ended up turning them over too, so I gave up on the whole floating thing. I just carry an extra driver and mid-range that are somewhat stable (won't hyzer like crazy or turnover like crazy), and throw one of them if I'm near a real danger hole.

Once your drive is pretty consistent, unless you're near a hole that has lots of trees near the water, you get to feel pretty comfortable that you probably won't lose your main drivers. The really rare or expensive ones probably shouldn't be thrown unless you're positive you won't lose it.

Besides, if you have a floater, what happens if the current is moving away from the shore? Are you going to jump on in after the $7 disc?!?

Or you could pay the local kid , spotting , and have him jump in after it for a few bucks !!!!! :D

I still maintain that the Lightning floating glow midranges or thereabouts are not that bad. The thing is, though, I wouldn't carry them for regular discs...I like them as glow discs because, since they sell for the same price as regular Lightning plastic, you get a medium-high durability disc (the translucent glow plastic feels like a tougher version of tupperware or something) that glows pretty well (better than any glow I've found at the same price, though I haven't tried S-Superglow yet) for about the same price as regular old DX. For the occasional glow round that's not bad in my book. However, in this case floating is more of a bonus, which isn't really what it sounds like you folks are looking for, so I guess it's not really a counterexample.
