Idlewild amazed me. It is now one of my favorite courses, perhaps even THE favorite course, of all time. It has everything going for it -- topography, water, well-groomed trees and vegetation, and very intellegent hole design (including alterante pins and tees). It is also just a beautiful place to be, and the club has installed the necessary construction elements (bridges, buttresses, etc) in complete harmony with the natural setting. It makes you use every shot you are capable of throwing, but it doesn't need any yellow rope or other artificial elements to make you do it. When you think about the amount of forethought and effort it takes to build a course like that, you realize that it is a great privilege to play there.

I expect that courses like Idlewild (I think of them as the "par 72" courses) are an indication of the direction that disc golf is heading. We will always need plenty of the "par 54" type courses, because newbies are our lifeblood, and Idlewild would intimidate and dishearten most beginners. But the Idlewild-like courses will become our crown jewels.

Looks like you will have a Texan in your midst this upcoming weekend. Look out Olse is pretty good and might just bring that title back.

I can't wait to play Idlewild sometime this summer.

Justin Bunnell is pretty hard to beat at Idlewild, but so are Matt Blakely and David Cox to mention a few locals. i'll be playing Masters so i'll let the Open players worry about Olse ;)

glad to hear you plan to play Idlewild soon -- it is a gem!

I'm pretty sure they won't be there though. Well at least Kid and Matt.

Why wouldn't I be?
A c-tier on a home course less than an hour away. I'll be there unless the weather gets horrible.

Sign up for the gulley open!

Wow I was wrong because I thought you two would go to Minnesota! Kid's ankle is still messed up so he won't be at the Majestic either. You going to be at DGLO Matt?

I'll be at DGLO, Minnesota is a haul.
Full Time Job and a course I'm working on are keeping me a little closer to home.

I am definitely looking forward to playing Idlewild this weekend! I called HB last night and told him I can't wait to play this gem of a course. Being that this is a one-day event, is there any local action on Sunday mornings?

preliminary indications are that we will play Shorts during the morning round and Longs in the afternoon.

Jerry -- it doesn't look like anything is scheduled for Sunday, but i am sure you could find some takers if you're looking to play...

Looks like only 20 people have pre-registered ...

click here to view pre-registered list (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6545)

i guess a lot of people prefer to wait till Saturday morning at 7am...

if we only get around 50 people the good news is we'll have 3-somes and rounds won't take quite so long.

Jerry -- Fred will be in Mexico till Saturday evening but he would be up for a round Sunday if you're interested.

Here's are a few photos I took before the tournament last weekend. The course looked fantastic! I noticed a lot of improvements since I played it nearly one year ago....and I was impressed with the quality back then! Thanks to everyone who helped organize and prepare for the event. I had a blast and I'm already looking forward to the Masters tournament in July. Lastly, thanks to Fred, Jeff and Keith for getting up early Sunday morning to take my money.

Wow, those pictures are amazing. Idlewild and Rennaisance Park look easily to be the best courses I've never played. :( Thank goodness I'll get to play Highbridge this summer.
