Some people are entirely too superstitious, especially the ones who think saying a word [after the disc has been released] is what makes your good shot turn into a bad shot in mid-flight.

LMAO!
Most people in the disc golf community are aware of my DG skillz, I'm pretty sure most users will choose the mad skills option.

It's not very often I'll skip a tournament for a piece of arse, last weekend was one of those exeptions.

Why did this get moved to Misc? It has to do with the game of disc golf, it's not a misc topic.

I've had a few ppl get mad at me or saying nice.
I simply say "wow, thanks"
They go what are you talking about
I say "You think my voice has the power to chance the flight of your disc. That's mad respect for me. Wow, thanks!"

I don't care if my shots get "niced", but I've made some friends angry by "nice-ing" their shots.
So, now I keep quiet until their disc is safely on the ground.
I do occasionally accuse others of "nice-ing" my shots, all in good fun.

I like to praise good throws early in the flight of the disc. I do this because it's important to remember as a golfer that the best you can do is release the disc on the intended flight path and hope for the best! some bad shots can end up with good lies so I tend prefer rewarding the shot and not the lie

Whatever knucklehead moderator put this thread under Misc needs to have his license revoked. Let me guess, it was probably Jeff Lagrassa. Figures from a steelers fan.

I personally dont like people saying good drive or shot til its in for Birdie ! most people are just being nice so added preasure we are just putting on our selves. same as someone saying down when your drive is getting up into branches and it hits one and goes, DOWN ! to the ground that is... do we get mad at that person too ? i just ask them to say Under or go through next time. or you could just , CALL ME A WHAMBULANCE !! I personally think it's all superstitious nonsense myself, but also believe in respecting others' belief systems so I try to be careful about when I open my mouth, and usually wait until the disc has landed.
Sometimes it just slips out though.
I've been lucky enough to witness some incredible shots that cause me to exclaim without thought.
I'm working on it ...

Doesn't that kinda reinforce the point?
Maybe you should have used:
One sandwich short of a picnic.
Elevator doesn't go to the top floor.
The light is on but no one is home.
The wheel is spinning but the hamster's dead.
One balloon short of a bunch...

There are 3 people I don't mess with in this country:
1. the IRS
2. The united states post office (you want all your mail or just some junk mail sans bills?)
3. PDGA DISCussion moderators.
Story:
I was playing a tournament in Indiana and couldn't resist.
First round I didn't recognize anybody in my group. I didn't talk to anyone, introduce myself...I was in the zone putting before the two minutes.
After the first horn, everyone converged on the tee and introductions started. I looked everyone in the eye and said, "I don't care what you do, I have one rule: NO ONE TALKS TO MY DISC. NO ONE. NOT UNTIL IT STOPS MOVING! Consider this your warning."
You should have seen the look on their faces!! :D Priceless!! They were all thinking, man, here's this jerk and he's on my card, it's going to be one of those rounds!
I threw my shot, luckily into the fairway. After it landed, everyone exhaled. We walked up to everyones shot, I was last to throw. Complete silence for 3 shots, no one said a word! I get up to my lie, someone cleared their throat and I turned quickly to them. Oh no! The Fear! He had the FEAR!! I started laughing. I asked, "You ever play with a guy like that?" They all looked at eachother. I told them I was just kidding and we had a great round! Fun with strangers!

I got put on probation for saying, "10 or 20 IQ points?" Just be nice to people if you want to keep posting.

FYI, according to the email I received from a moderator last night, you are not allowed to support someone "coming out" on this bored. It is considered a homophobic attack if you do.

It doesn't ever bother me if someone calls "nice" right before my discs hits a tree and ends up being bad. But what burns me to no end is when a 20- 25 foot putt clangs off the basket and some jack says "good run" or "nice line". I guess I'll never know what motivates people to comment after every shot.

I guess 'round here we have thicker skin about ppl talking to discs. for the past few years we've had a regular "smack talk doubles" group... if you *don't* say "get in the water" (or "get in the snake") then you're obviously a wuss :D

agreed... the best i've heard was immediately after the disc left someones hand someone comments... 'well thats not going to work' no matter if it was a good throw or not. LOL

Nice layup, now take off those [censored] pants.
In ATL we usually yell WHAKOW!!! when a disc hits a tree.
Also, even if there is no water for miles we say "get in the water." When you are always on the vacation card you get used to trash talk and such.
