What happened to Disc TV this weekend? Did I screw up? I tuned in to Empire at 7 p.m. last night like I do every weekend and there was some stick golf show. Last week was the women's Pro Worlds final. I expected the men's this weekend and ended up with nothing. What gives...anyone know.

About DiscTV content, I would like to see more "how to" stuff. A few months ago there was a segment on overhand throws, and before that we saw the Winnicrew explain power drives. The thumber is now a part of my game, thanks to that segment.
How about the bent elbow technique, rollers, forehand grips and throws, straddle putts, spider grips, UD putts, stance around obstacles, knee shots, etc? So much disc golf, so little time...
As far as dress is concerned, I prefer to see people in their natural disc golf gear. Seems like the cameras should be recording what is going on (recording life), instead of the players dressing up because a camera is around.
I agree with Vinnie. I signed up for extra $$$ each month to watch this show and I can never find the [*****] thing. I hope disc tv has a little more control next year...
I'm not in the TV syndication business, but I seriously doubt they have any control. They sell a show, whichever networks buy it can air it whenever they want. Complain to Empire, not disctv

DFW ch 8 tonight 10pm
90 second spot on disc golf.
Unless Dale Hanson cuts it.
We spent 2 hours doing interviews and trying to make some good shots this afternoon.
It will be interesting what he shows. We had Mike Sayre, Gene "Biff" Barfield, Tom McCutchion, Kevin "Pinnapple" Agpolo, Scott Vaughn, Dan Roark and kids playing around with them filming. Mike, Pinnapple, Scott and Tom were all interviewed.
Mike Hall from Ch 8 sports was a great guy. He had done some homework. It will be entertaining. I think this will be a funny short story.

That's total [*****] what the Empire Sports Netword did. They need to show it again for the people they screwed who set their vcr's. I want everyone to e-mail them and complain so we can watch our national championship. DiscTV needs to email us or notify this page of any major changes in programming. You'd think they would want us to watch.
I sure do miss the sportscasts of the Great Dale Hanson. Sham and Hanson=best radio football broadcast team of all time. Somebody tape that for me, puuuuuhhhllllleeeeeeeeze.

The tease was Goofy Golf?? with Mike putting in a long one from way out.
Then they did a great job on the spot. They showed Mike, Tom and Scott all on camera. They showed Mike throw one in the water (how did we know they were going to use that one?) They showed me 2 times. (My Aunt already called me)
They shows the FC Discart with Kevin "Pinnapple" pulling it.
The spot ended with Gene "Biff" Barfield in the lake up to his waist looking for the disc that he threw in the lake.
I know that Dan Roark recored it, if we can have power, we will try to bring it to the Carrollton Open.

Ok, here it is, took me a while to get all of this down. Man we talk to fast.
Teaser before Sports.
Gloria Campos - We know that golf is tops with you but there is a new kind of golf out there
(Scene - Mike Sayre hits a put from the edge of the lake to the basket, caption says "goofy golf")
Dale Hanson - Well I guess I'm not big...I love golf....I love almost every thing associated with golf. I'm not sure I'm crazy about this little goofy game.
But a .. we are going to talk about it next anyway
__________________________-
(Scene - Dale)
Dale Hanson - The man who was credited with inventing the game of disc golf died a couple of weeks ago, but the game lives on. Here's Mike Hill
(Scene, Sayre it's the putt from the lake again)
Mike Hall - It's played and scored just like golf. But in this golf, you want to fly the green.... or what's suppose to be the green. (cut to casual players putting at #1 basket and missing most of them)
(Cut to Sayre)
Mike Sayre - (Professional Disc Golfer) Frisbee golf is for anyone... anyone can play.. all ages. And all handicaps....Anyone....men.. women... old... (cut to one of Dans Kids )young... you name it, we can do it.
Mike Hall - And the players take it seriously, from there bags to disc selection.(cut to Kevin Agpolo, pulling his FC Discart, you can clearly see the logo Kent)
(cut to Tom)
Tom McCutcheon (Professional disc golfer) I carry about 16 to 18 with me, they range from driver n putter to up shooters. Just like they do in ball golf. This is a driver (holds up a JLS upside-down and tried to fix it before the next scene)
(cut to Kevin making a putt that Hill tried to distract him from making.)
(Cut to Your truly teeing off on #2)
Mike Hill - It's not a new sport, in fact its been around for decades, but it's popularity is rising here in North Texas and all over the World. (cut to Scott and me walking to #4 tee, cut to Other Dan's kid making a put on #3)
(cut to Scott)
Scott Vaughn (Professional Disc Golfer) Now in the metroplex, there is over 26... Frisbee Golf courses. It's interesting to see how its evolved. Its actually Sweden's national pastime, you would think it would be skiing.
Mike Hall - they even have a professional tour with courses all over the country complete with hazards. (cut to Sayre teeing off and landing in the water) And its cheep, the discs cost about ten bucks and you rarely pay a greens fee. (Cut, shows selection of discs, side view)
(Cut to Sayre putting from the Water edge to the basket #3 making it again, [3rd try in reality])
Scott Vaughn - You can go out and spend $40 to $50 dollars on a round of Golf, in Frisbee golf you can go out and play a tournament for five dollars.
(Cut, Hill talking and throws a disc. [first 3 times he shot this, he hit the basket from 30ft)
Mike Hill - but the biggest similarity between regular golf and disc golf (cut to scene of disc hitting tree behind the basket on #4 [actually Sayre threw the disc] cut back to Hill in a close up yelling) IT CAN BE FRUSTRATING. (pan back out and Hill says) But then again you don't have expensive clubs you can, toss away
(cut to Scott throwing an upshot on #4 waaayyy past the basket through the trees)
Mike Sayre - people think all the time, well that looks so easy, I can do that. well Its not as easy as it looks.
(Cut to putts going into basket with the camera under the basket looking up.)
Mike Hill - It is worth a try, you might even end up looking just like... (cut to Gene Barfield looking for Sayres disc in the lake up to his waist. {He was in nice cloths to}) a regular golfer at times. Mike Hill Channel 8 sports, Lewisville
(Back to the studio with everyone)
Dale Hanson - You know I've seen the guys... I got buddies of mine that go into the water looking for golf balls and the like. I'm thinking maybe if you loose a disc out there (Gloria Campos chimes in "it might be easier to find") I guess you go get it... the heck with it... Crazy stuff. (Campos "it is.. Thanks")

I was talking with Brian Sullivan at Am Nationals. He feels badly about neglecting the website but is working approximately 120 hours per week on DiscTV and is sleeping the other 48 hours. He doesn't want to pull the plug on the website. He just wishes everyone had a TV show to produce and less time to surf the web! If the show is successful, he thinks that next year he might be able to hire someone to sleep for him so he can work 168 hours per week.

That British course was SWEET! Looked pretty tough. There's got to be a pub nearby.
At Stockholm Disc Golf Open they also filmed a piece with Christan Sandstrom, the World record distance holder (820 feet), explaining the basics for getting max distance. Don't know if it will be included in the same show as SDGO, but should be interesting whenever aired. We had a laser range finder handy, and all of the throws Christian made demo:ing different aspects of his technique where roughly in the 170-185 meter range (around 570-600 feet for the metrically challenged...)

Last weekend (Sept. 21-22) was Beamister. The week before that was the second half of Worlds. Next week should be Stockholm.
Empire runs Disc TV at 4pm central time on Sundays. It is also rerun on Mondays at 2 pm central time (I think). That's when I got the men's portion of pro worlds.
The programming guide on Dish Network is alway correct on the time, but seldom correct on which episode is going to be shown. It HAS been correct on the epdisode for the last 2 weeks (a new record).

Replays are on Mondays at noon in CA usually.
I finally got digital cable (AT&T) and watched my first hour long episode of Disc TV yesterday (Sunday at 8pm central time). I had to subscribe to the "Premium Pack" but that was only an additional $4.95 per month. It was on Fox Sports Digital Net and I think it was the "Central" channel. I get 3 Fox Sports Digital channels and the digital cable guide makes no attempt to differentiate the three, but the one that had disc tv popped up with "Fox Central" a couple of times. I noticed during the broadcast that the Empire sports logo was on the screen. I'm wondering if they are just picking up the Empire broadcast and using it on their cable network.
Anyway, it was great seeing the pros shoot Cold Brook at the Lumberjack, since I just got back from the BBDGT and we played Cold Brook. Almost every hole that they showed of the final 9 one of the pros managed to have a worse drive than I did. That was so cool!!
Great job again Brian and the Disc TV crew. Love the show (again)!!!

Jon, not sure where your at, but here in Austin, it's moved around allot. used to be Sun. morning, now Sun. night at 6p, and replay on Mon. @ 2p is now, no longer. You missed the first Am. Nationals at Tobogan, only set up once a year. Ron Russel was there giving instruction on how he throws, grips, stretches, and putting practice. Good advice he gave, something to the fact of,...if you practice from 30ft and miss less than 90%, then your only practiceing to miss/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif..good addvice, I'd say.

that would be a great idea if I had insurance to pay for the physical therapy.

I think you have what is called Tennis elbow.
The pain on the inside of the elbow is related to a "Bowling" elbow.

My heart went out to JK. Watching those close range misses was gut wrenching. I know I don't have any idea of what a 4x world champ goes through mentally, but I do know what its like to continually miss those short ones. The upside is that the rest of her game was in great shape and I'm sure the putting problems will be addressed during her time off.
The British Broadcasting Corp was in Amesbury, MA yesterday filming a segment for a show called Perfect Partners that airs on The Discovery Channel daily. The blind date met at the Town Park (where the disc golf course is) and were quickly introduced to Terry West and myself for a golf lesson before they went and played together for their date. The film crew filmed so much footage of them playing golf and us teaching them that there is no way they won't have a big segment on it. The couple hit it off on the course and had so much fun. Neither of them have ever heard of the game before.
I will be sure to post the date when the show will air. Awesome exposure for the sport, awesome exposure for our course and for the Town Of Amesbury, MA.

Excellent news, Dan.
Word on the street in Michigan also bodes well for some future dg exposure. It seems a full crew from Ripley's Believe It or Not spent the day at the Discraft plant last Saturday. They were filming the inclusion of Ed's Ashes into some discs that were being molded for the DGA. I guess all that recent press attention to Ed's passing and his unusual wishes caught Ripley's eye. No news yet when this segment might run.

I saw that Schwebby was getting ready to revive this old thread and I wanted to beat him to it.
Man I loved being involved with the DiscTV episodes. When the whole thing went under, the networks still wanted to buy the show but John Sink (The guy actually making it along with Sullivan and another fellow... It was Johns' baby) just couldn't do it anymore. They were working 7 days a week to get out the weekly episodes and I guess it was just too much work for too little reward for John.
The whole thing was super-ambitious of him. I'm glad we got to do one season... better than nothing. For some reason we couldn't get any manufacturers behind the show. I tried to talk with Innova about it but they were like "what disc golf TV show?".
Anyway.... it was working and would have come along to be financially viable but I think that John just didn't have the patience. I appreciate the hard work that he and his crew did for that year. Maybe it laid some ground work for a future project by.... someone.

Shows are still free for those who will submit them for local broadcast.
