Ace # 10, Sunday May 25th, 2003. 6 months, 2 days since # 9. One of the witnesses gave me the disc 6 months ago to replace the other Ace Disc. Rocs!
i just hit my 3rd ace of the year (4th lifetime) at Oakwood park Cottage grove, MN last night. it also was in our SUNDOG league!! it was also the CTP prize hole 4 the night. Guess what..someone else also hit it!! so i split the ace pool and the ctp prize. oh well it was still my first ACE for $$!! oh yea my other 2 aces were both on the same hole #1. the one last night is now a double ace disc! 179gm 1st run Z WASP!!

Aces are stupid. If you hit a lot of aces it just means you are playing on too many pitch 'n' putt courses.
Chris Hysell
Jun 12 2003, 09:31 AM
Morgan, to an extent you are right. At what point do you determine which ones are stupid? 300ft? So since I have 101 but only about half are in the 300ft range I should only count 50. That sounds fair. Now convince everyone that this is true and then the am players who can only throw 250ft will never get into an ace pot. Another way to look at it is that all holes under 300ft should be aced on every throw. So now, all holes under 300ft should be par 2. I like your thinking.

Aces in a tournament... 72 players. 4 rounds. 16 reachable holes. 4608 chances at an ace. If only 1 is hit in a tournament, that's a pretty rare occasion.
Cause to celebrate. It took me way longer than 72 rounds to hit my first ace... but then, I don't play pitch and putt courses...

Yesterday, I threw two discs at one of those mobile radar detector/speed indicators that they park on streets to let drivers know how fast they are going./clipart/happy.gif
The first one sailed by about twenty feet to the right. It didn't register.
I decided to throw the second one directly at the device.
From 150 feet, I chunked a Comet as hard as I could. It flew on a perfect line directly at the number display. Just when I had resigned myself to the fact that the Comet was going to smash into the number display, and I was going to be the proud owner of a damaged "Bulldog" radar detector/display, it dropped and shot thru the little 36 by 18 inch slot between the top radar detection section and the frame below. It went about eighty feet past before hitting a curb.
I breathed a huge sigh of relief that it didn't hit the unit, but was very disappointed to see that the speed failed to register.
Maybe next time/clipart/proud.gif

I know Morgan. Sometimes it's hard to control ourselves when posting. I had a hard time not addressing the post directly at you. It was a stupid, short, straight hole about 240ft downhill. Last night was week 12 of our series with about 25 players a week. It was the first ace in the series so there have been 300 shots on that basket but 5400 tournament tee shots without an ace. We played doubles afterwards and I bounced it off of the top. BTW, I was hurt.
morgan
Jun 26 2003, 04:46 PM
Back when I was playing a lot it was the 1980's, our course had ridiculously long holes. They were all like 1000 feet long or 2000. Nobody ever got an ace of course and nobody ever even got a 2. I don't remember even if anybody ever got a 3 there. Most of the holes were par 6 and 7 and up. We were maniacs. Because of that, I've never gotten an ace in tournament play in my life, although I've gotten some aces recently in casual play on these little "par 3" holes.
Don't be hurt that I said aces were stupid, it's just that I like long golf holes where aces are impossible. Don't be hurt.

walked out to Rosedale "Down Under" today at about 7:00pm, after spending the entire day lugging a big heavy camcorder around Swope filming the pros. I didn't bring discs, so I got an MS and an Omega at Galyans today. This is a short, technical course, with lots and lots of trees, cliffs, and trees. Did I mention the trees? I played with some folks that hadn't been there before, and I shot 5 under, only one bogey, and hit basket on 2 holes. Woulda been a nice place to get ace 2, but it wasn't meant to be. I need to start playing 2 disc rounds again...
Great little course, some really exceptional learning for this area, which is pretty much wide open windy golf.
Probably play up top tomorrow morning, before filming the finals, 97 degrees and plus 100 heat index. Welcome to KC!

Last week I went out to Flagstaff to practice the courses for worlds. My first round at Thorpe I played about as terrible as I could imagine for the first 17 holes. On hole 18 just for ***** and giggles I decided to close my eyes when I threw my drive (figuring it could'nt be any worse than the way I was throwing with them open) Three seconds later I had my first out of state Ace.
My second out of state Ace came an Saturday when I was in Vegas, on the hole prior I threw an ok drive went for the putt, ended up about 20 feet long, then missed the next putt about 12 feet long. Then as the other people on my card were saying that I was close enough not to need to putt, I managed to prove them wrong. Instead of getting upset I managed to laugh it off and Ace the next hole. On a side note Vegas had taken me for a modest $250 until my friend loaned me 20 bucks 10 minutes before we were going to leave for home, I cleaned up on THe Yatzee slot for $550 bucks

Nice shooting Chris! A 40 from the LONG tees at Token Creek Park? With all due respect to Heeren, (I know that you are a 1000 rated player with many top 5 finishes at PDGA B-Tier events) and while I've never played there, from various scuttlebutt I was under the impression that Token Creek was more challenging than a course that would surrender a 40, from the long tees no less. It is billed on the PDGA directory as a 'Championship Course.'

You got witnesses Chris?
I played with Chris Heeren during the Mad City Open when he shot -8. He knows that course!!
And since he knows all the local routes and is very long off the tee - I'll put my guess in (Chris wouldn't make this up) I hope /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
He deuced 1, 2 (fairway ace), 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, and 18.
Unless he had an ace! Then I would take #2off the list. Even with an Ace that has to be one of the most amazing rounds ever in Wisconsin!!!

Ok, I guess I have to re-word that, I said "long tee's" but the pins were in the red pin placement. I'd say it was equivalent to a -10 in the blue's. It was during a skins round with 5 other people, I got 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18. And my putt spit out on hole 16 /msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif There are still 7 holes that play from 400 - 550ft. So it'll be pretty hard to shoot any better than that. (at least by me)
PS - Token Creek isn't a course that surrenders 40's, that's why I said it was my best round I've ever played. (close to 1100 rated) I hit every possible duece hole plus 2 bonus ones I never get!
PSS - Awesome job at KC Wide Open & The Majestic, Sprague, and congrats on making the Innova team!!!!!

Jul 29 2003, 10:20 PM
Well, that's two of us. Next?
I wish you the best Mike!
I think the putt from my disc, and not my mini would have been a stance violation. I would have received a warning and been allowed to re-putt from the righ spot. I think that's right.
Check it out-
RULE: 803.03 STANCE, Subsequent to Teeing Off
F. A stance violation must be clearly called within three seconds after the infraction to be valid. The call may be made by any member of the group or an official. When the call is made by a member of the group, it must subsequently be confirmed by another member of the group. A player shall receive a warning for the first violation of a stance rule in the round. Subsequent violations of a stance rule in the same round shall incur a one-throw penalty.
G. Any throw that involves a validly called and seconded stance violation may not be used by the thrower. Re-throws must be taken from the original lie. Re-throws must be taken prior to subsequent play by others in the group.
H. The player may not retrieve the originally thrown disc prior to the re-throw, except in the case of a putt from within 10 meters. Where a disc is retrieved in violation of this rule, a one throw penalty shall be imposed without a warning.
Do you realize that if I hadn't missed so many putts, it wouldn't have even been close?/clipart/wink.gif
Seriously, I really look forward to playing with you again.
I really feel that it was your calming effect on me that helped me through my yips.
The mini is going to Flagsatff.
It is the first thing I put in my suitcase.

Jeff...congrats on the huge win. 2 things: 1. You were listed as playing Open at the Worlds on the last update I saw, and 2. A player who has thrown from another player's lie shall receive two penalty throws, without a warning! ouch! Mark the top of your discs.

Thanks Kenny!
1st thing- I switched today when I "stepped up".
2nd thing- I was putting from my disc and not my mini. A garbage truck drove up and I stepped back from my mini. When I resumed my stance I was behind my disc, which was about five feet behind my mini. Mike stopped me before I putted. It would have been a stance violation, as I understand the rules.
Man, you Pro's are tough!/clipart/wink.gif

Jeff, It would be practice throw.
old thread (http://pdga.com/discus/messages/42/5815.html?1024881847)
In looking at it in a different light, if there was a strong wind, and you tossed your driver to the side, went back to the bag for a new disc, and threw from the wrong mark, you would gather valuable information form the flight of your first disc whether the miss-throw was intentional or not.

Carl you are the most successful aggressive putter I've ever seen. I try to learn something from everyone I play with (KC Swope) but I don't have the nerve to putt that hard.
morgan
Aug 08 2003, 11:52 PM
That's why they call him "Mister Putter"
Rich, For me I came to the realization that standing over the putt too long got me thinking to much and my nerves got the best of me. I was always best in sports when I hand to quickly reflex to something without thinking about it. I just applied that to my game. I do all my thinking and let my nerves fray during all the down time between shots and when it is time to throw I just step right up and let it go before I have a chance to unravel. It came to me when I was playing rosedale down under and I had a 6 and 5 bogies. With 5 holes to go I birdied 4 of them because of the change I discussed above and I played my worst and best tournament golf during the same round. 8 birdies got me to even. It was a hurdle I needed to clear to get my game to the next level. Not sure if any of that makes sense but I thought I would put that out there if it might be helpful to anyone else.

i am VERY PROUD of my big girl of 6 years old as she played 36 holes today making over 60 throws/rollers today on top of the fact that she walked 12 holes at the snowbowl course and 18 holes at the hotel course yesterday.
Sounds like you have a lot to be proud of there Keith. Good job Lorelei.
I want to brag about someone too. Unrelated to DG, but I'm real proud of my kid brother (who's not a kid anymore). At last weekend's national motocross championship event, he placed 5th in the nation in 125cc class and 7th in the nation in Stock class in large and competitive fields in both instances. All this after a crash in Friday practice that required stitches to his face. And, at 33, he was at least 8-10 years older than all the young guns in these divisions, and didn't have the benefit of age protection. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I played a skins match with a much better golfer yesterday. We both shot -2. He took the first skin on hole 1 with a par. We then pushed the next 16 holes due to a couple of miraculous putts for birdies by your's truly (/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif). On hole 18, I parked the basket for a bird, and my opponent missed his 45'er; taking a par.
Disclaimer: This has been my only highlight since the last day of Am Worlds when only 15 of the 96 am masters played better than I did......and my opponent above will surely be seeking revenge for his below average play.../msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Playing doubles at the Lake Park in Lewisville, TX, I drew the 'joker' since there were an odd number of people. I was allowed one extra shot per hole. On my first drive on hole 5 (OK, it's a 180 foot pp hole), I aced it. Since we were paying $5 per ace, I opted to take my second drive as well. I also aced that one.

I not only met Jeff Ash, but, I was fortunate to get to play a round with him. Great player, even greater attitude, great fun...for me, in my mediocrity, this is what discgolf is all about; meeting new friends and enjoying the walk.
Not to be outdone, I also met and played my first round with Scott Papa...another amazing character in our world. Great attitude, funny, and passionate; not afraid to make the call...thanks Scott and Oates for a great first round.
I also met Jon Lyksett...what he has done in conjunction with Innova in creating EDGE, will be the 'key' to the next generation of growth for discgolf....I have often said for many years that the 'key' to growth and recognition of our sport lies in taking it to 'schools'...it is now a reality.
Hey Matt....missed you...hope all is well in jersey_land.
Not only did I meet Jeff Ash, I lost a $20 bet with him at Worlds. I also had the pleasure of watching him, along with Jay Gobrecht & the rest of the Adv. Oh yeah, I'll boast that I know Jay Gobrecht, too. And that he whoops up on me by only 5 or 6 strokes on 36 holes on a regular basis.

At the Delta Windjammer weekly Monte (Monte Harrison) "Spu" aced the shortest hole on the course (#1) for $540! I heard it and saw Monte with his hands raised on the tee pad doing the zombe walk. We had 2 holes left. Sal Teresi and I. On 18, I was up first. Off the rocks ace!!! Monte thought we were just messin' with him with all of the noise I was making! Classic! Sal and I shot -19 out of 20 for the new course doubles record to boot! Food and adult beverages will be abundant next Wed. nite. Monte and I are putting on a spread! B there! KL

Yeah, I threw OB on 11 on my second shot, missed a 30 footer to take a 6, Actually, the basket missed my putt, it fishbowled around then teetered over the edge.
nailed a 45 footer for a 4 on 888. Never crossed inbounds on 13, so I had to retee. Missed the Mando on 14, carded a 5.
Played Winthrop Gold 4 times, best round was a 68. That was with a triple circle 11 on 888!
Matt- hope to see you out there some time.

San Francisco bag tag #1 is currently mine! The wolves will be after me tomorrow. Two more rounds at Stockton. I should probably take a picture of it hanging on my bag, eh?

Can I count tonight's ace with the unapproved Ace Race disc? It was on a permanent hole. I was going to shorten it up for the Ace Race but I might not now. #107. I took money for it too.

<FONT SIZE=" 2">I</FONT> aced #11 Valley Springs with a Z-Wasp on Tuesday, but unlike <FONT SIZE=" 2">SOME</FONT> people, <FONT SIZE=" 2">I</FONT> only count aces with <FONT SIZE=" 2">APPROVED</FONT> discs. And unlike <FONT SIZE=" 2">SOME</FONT> people, <FONT SIZE=" 2">I</FONT> have so many aces, I don't bother counting them any more. /clipart/proud.gif/clipart/proud.gif/clipart/proud.gif

Congrats! Since it's approved you must count it. However, since you don't count aces then just disregard it/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I just got my second ACE with the same disc I got my first with.
Perhaps we need a thread for 2 aces with the same disc!!!!
Candy First Run Spider is DA BOMB
For all of u that only have only one ace with a disc, be gone.
All smiles, :-D

We played our weekly doubles at Tinicum last night as Isabel was flying in. Rained a little, but it was WINDY!
On hole #15 Kevin Laboski hit the number plate for a near ace. After much discussion about aces on the tee of Hole# 16 Jeff Tareila threw a CE Roc into the side of the basket and it stuck!!
$75 ace pot my $5 for Lucky. Disc golf rules in extreme conditions!!

My 20 week Disc Golf Season (2 times a week) is finished and a couple of fun tid-bits.
Here are the highlights:
I had a 7 and a 10 year old play in the amature division most of the year (they won 2 times!)
Bassett Creek Park final CTP Throw took 85 tosses before we had a winner (2nd time that happened)
I won the most of any players in the weekly league (over $375 total)
We played 56 holes to polish off the year in our Championship Tournament on Sept 20th and polished off: 36 - Johnsonville Beer Brats, 36 - Old Fashioned Weiners with chips and pop.
We had over 150 different players showing up this year for League play.
This was my 10th year of running Weekly Disc Golf leagues 2 times a week (Monday and Thursday)and only missed 1 time this year.
Lots of fun, so we will do it again next year!
I hit the jackpot at PIAS today: FOURthat's right, folks, FOUROntario Rocs (175, 176, 176, 178g), a max wt. PAT. PEND. Aero, and a 123g ring-stamped Aviar, all in good to excellent condition; the Aero is practically MINT!
