I thought it might be wise to run large supertour events to coencide with very large music festivals. Last summer at bonnaroo i met probably 1000 golfers while i was selling discs there and introduced the sport to countless more. The very nice bonnaroo photo people even came out and snapped shots of us... though i've never seen them. I think it might be a good way to draw a big crowd and introduce the sport to THOUSANDS.

Any thoughts?

"Crazy" John Brooks, an infamous Pro, was the emcee at our inaugral Wakarusa Music Festival here in Lawrence, Kansas last Summer. We had at least 3 temp courses set up for the attendees... Find a way to contact "Crazy", as he has much experience with 'festivals' and emcee-ing, and disc golf. In the 80s and 90s, he was one of the best DGers around!
Good luck!

I don't think it's that great of an idea (nothing personal)...but I'm an avid disc golfer and music fan.

Here in Austin, we have two of the greatest festivals in the country, The Austin City Limits Music Festival (3 days) and South-By-Southwest.

I attend every day of each one of these festivals. If there were a disc golf tournament in my backyard on the same weekend, there's no way I would miss any part of either of these festivals (especially at the cost of tickets/wristbands) for something that I can do on any other weekend.

Great point...
My counter would be...
The good thing about the bigger festivals though... the stages don't kik up til 1 or 2 and even then at a show like bonnaroo, Well the 'small' bands play til 5 or 6. I, personally, don't mind missing them a bit. So, if there were a way to organize smoothly... get the golfers off the course by 4 and walk or crawl back to whatever festivalgrounds, i would play.

Hey Discgolforum. Just the exposure ( like you did) is a great thing. It doesn't need to be a tourney, just a "Promo" so to speak. Here in MN, I went to most of the Viking tailgate party's before home games. I brought a couple baskets along with my "Fed Ex coverted into a DG pro shop truck" and thousands of people were exposed to DG over the 8 home games. The more exposure, the better IMO.
Now if the Vikes would have won more often......

Timmy, you're the man. It's so kool to get to type with you. When i started playing you were my inspiration. First DGWN i ever saw(wich blew my mind BTW) was when you were still an am throwin 500+ i think it was. I forget the hole and the course but it was some hole nobody comes close to usually.
I was 25yrs old throwin 173 feet and... yeah... you pushed me.

Last summer i went to about 8 large music events to promote my business. I figure it's the place because of the high concentration of my "target market", which i assume is the same target market of the pdga. I see a lot of anti "hippieshit" comments lately but... if read the past correctly it seems some "hippies" helped get the sport to where it is. "hippies" taught me the game actually.
Besides bonnaroo which was HUGE, i also went to Shoreline Amp. When the dead was there
Shoreline was SWEET because i heard so many times... 'hey man i played at that course down at USC (or wherever) when they first put it in'. Whats that, the first or second course?!?!?! I love meetin ol skoolies :D

Boise, Id, the dead(and ann something park to play golf). The Gorge, The Dead.
After the gorge i went through Montana and played Blue mountain(-1 with bogies), what a sick long course. I got an account in Missoula at a store that "had always wanted to try that" i hear that a lot
After MT back to NM for 3 days then drive to Mass. We were going to go to coventry to see the last phish shows, pass out our disc golf flyers and fling discs but i actually watch the weather fellow "hippies"! :p
Got a few more accounts at stores in the NE area who had actually never even heard of disc golf. Yes i still find that amazing.
I wanted to go to the lawrence kansas fest badly... i knew about it guys. If the organizers of that brilliant event happen to read this. Contact me. Otherwise i'll be filling your email box with love mail very soon.
