Is it me or does todays discs pale in comparison to the discs of just a few years ago.My Driver of choice is the teebird.to me you cant even compare a champion teebird to the CE or a 10x.the champion just dont fly.Do you think golf discs reached their prime a few years back?Dont get me wrong,I love some of the new molds but the plastic just isnt their. All I can say is poor future Generation disc golfers if they dont get to throw some of the Plastic of past.
Yeah there were some good plastics back in the day. But today's plastics are good too. Just different. I remember when the first 11x Champion discs came out. They sucked compared to the old CE. But the current Champion is pretty decent. Still doesn't apply to me cause I throw Gateway S Plastic, the best ever made!

There were some 11x discs that were partially made out of CE type plastic(not 100 percent)....
Just like I have/had a 4x JK Valkyrie that was opaque and felt like CE plastic.
I think its sort of just what you get used to, I think any plastic would be good once you got used to it. If you read back in posts when CE was being discontinued, everyone was oh no, what am I going to do??? This new Champion plastic sucks, blah blah blah, now evryone pretty much is fine with it. i think it just takes some time to get used to the different feel of each type. all of the new plastics are really durable...
If you truly look at what the real pros are throwing, they are throwing the new discs/plastic. Except for Pro Line (IMO). Sure they may have a few old plastic/mold discs for turn over shots, but they throw what is available. Dave D. even said that about himself in the "ask dave d." thread.
Not every batch of plastic that Innova, Discraft, Gateway, etc gets from the manufacturers is going to be 100% the same. I have worked in the plastics industry for a breif period, and no matter what kind of quality controls you set in place you will never get 100% perfection everytime. Plastic is fickle, they do their best to recreate what worked well before, but also, if a plastic supplier discontinues a type of plastic, then the disc manufactures will have to discontinue those plastics as well. It is unfortunate, but it is a reality of business.

Throw whatcha like. If you dont like da new stuff. Go on ebay and pay out da arse for the stuff you like. Adapt and move on. The plastics are not that much different.

Depends on how you look at it.you can pay $50 for a driver that will last at least 4 years( mines still going ) barring you dont loose it.or you can spend $15 once or twice a year because the disc keeps changing flight characteristics.
I will say ive never broke any premium plastic though.its just all about the flight.

the funnest disc I have is a 150 dx gazelle, circa 94. It's far beyond ultra flippy, but with a pure 6 o'clock release it does some very unexpected double helix type stuff. and letting someone else throw it for the first time, esp. a bigarm, is quite hilarious.

I have a Speed Demon that has seen hell a few times. The thing is, it doesn't look to beat up to the naked eye (its mostly nose bending and the likes) so when others throw it, they put a TON of anhyzer on b/c they think its overstable. Then the thing almost corkscrew before hitting ther ground!
Weird thing is, for a while it was my tailwind distance disc.(Till I junked it into a lake) To this date, my longest drive (And likely the only time I've pushed 500') was with this bad boy and a 20 MPH wind over my right shoulder.
Still funny though.
