I just received this email from Marc Kaplan, who asked that I post it to the discussion board:
Fellow Disc Golfers,
I am working with Robb Hampton at the Environmental & Education Training Foundation (NEETF) to help to promote environmental education and activism. I am hoping that the PDGA and the disc golf community at large will recognize the positive synergy from working to improve our public parks on a national and local level.
One out of every three acres of America's land - 600 million acres - is public land, your land, our land. Lands for all us to hike, bike, boat, climb, swim, picnic, play disc golf or just plain relax. We can help to preserve and beautify these lands by getting involved in programs like National Public Lands Day. Last year 80,000 volunteers built trails, bridges, planted native trees and removed trash on National Public Lands Day. I would like us as a group to help to create this type of environmental awareness all year long. The first step is for disc golfers and clubs to educate and inspire their local park to register or register yourself as a site manager at http://www.npld.com/managers/register_a_site.cfm. Please contact Robb Hampton directly for more information at [email protected] or call him at 202-261-6462.
You can help! National Public Lands Day will happen on September 24, 2005, check out www.npld.com (http://www.npld.com) and www.neetf.org (http://www.neetf.org)
Educators can take an active role by participating in National Environmental Education Week leading up to Earth Day on April 16, 2005, check out www.eeweek.org/ (http://www.eeweek.org/)
Have a wonderful day on planet earth,
Marc
