I'm considering playing in my first tournament ever, but I'm not sure what division to play in. On this course http://www.playdg.com/landofmemories/ I typically throw in the 27 to 29 range from the back tees and my best personal best is a 26. Can anyone give me a suggestion on what division I should be playing in?

i say play advanced because the competition will be better but u could definitely play intermediate since its ur first tourney to get an indication of where u stand

Play intermediate.
Competitive tournaments are a different setting then even playing a buddy for $5. If you whoop everyones butt in that division, then move up to advanced. Don't risk playing a higher division, getting your butt handed to you, and then not want to play another tournament again.
After taking a look at that course, and your are shooting 27-29 in practice (unless it is always windy, 20-30mph) play intermediate. I consider myself a "right around the top 25-30% advanced player" and all those holes with exception to the three over 450ft I could park in 1 shot with a decent chance at birdie each time. Play Int, and enjoy your round.
Nice course by the way. :D

Tournament play is different than casual play. Although rules should always be adhered to, it is much more important at the higher levels of advanced and open to make sure you know and adhere to all the rules of the game. Therefore, I would suggest you start your tournament play in intermediate. See how you do there. Move up if you win. If you do not, stay there. When you get to your first hole. Inform those that you are playing with that this is your first tournament. Remind anyone that may call you a bagger that this is your first tournament. They should understand.

I'd say that when you are consistently shooting below 27, then you could move up to advanced, but you are a long way from pro. It's hard to say without seeing each hole, but on a course that long, I would expect an advanced player to be under par every time around and a pro to be several under each time.

They should understand.
but that won't stop them calling you a 'Bagger'.
It seems to be a required chorus for the winner in any division around here, even Open.

I would say the same thing that everyone else is saying. Play Am 2 Intermediate and have a great time.
I play advanced and after seeing that course I know for a fact that i can PARK every hole but 3 and those look to me like easy pars so I would think i could shoot around a 23 or 22 out there if my putting was good that day.
Good Luck at the tournament and it looks like a beautiful 9 hole course that if i ever get the chance i would like to play just because it looks very well kept and lost of foliage around the course :D

There is one Pro (974 rating) who plays the same course quite a bit, and usually shoots 24-27, and I think his personal best on the course is a 23.

Are you sure??? Because from the looks of it you can put a disc under EVERY basket but 3 from the tee pad. So that would lead me to believe that a 6 down is extremely possible out there. Is there alot of wind or any other factors that make this course tougher then it looks???

Yup, I'm sure. To answer your question, it does tend to be fairly windy, 15-20mph winds are fairly common, but yeah, a -4 (23) was the best the course has seen on the long holes.
As far as parking it under the basket, holes 2, 3, 5 are hardly ever birdied, unless its a fairway shot, and 9 to my knowledge has never been birdied, and pars are sometimes tough to come by because of the heavy foiliage as you can see if you zoom in on the basket. So yes a 22 or lower is possible, but as of yet there have been no claims to fame of making those marks.

suprisingly i was able to find average wind speed info on the net found out that the average wind speed only dips below 10mph for 2 months july (9.5) and aug (9.2) which is suprisingly higher then the windy city of chicago.

Putting it under every basket seems much more difficult from the long tees. The short ones a 21 seems highly possible
