I played in a tournament this weekend and some of the players had "sponsors". I don't really know what this means or what it entails, and not all of them were open players. Could anyone enlighten me on how this works? It sure would help me if I could get my entrance fee paid for by wearing a logo t-shirt. Thanks!

sponsored players get discs, clothes, cash encentives etc... for throwing a certain brand of discs or wearing certain apparel. i'm sure several of the superpros on this board will further comment on the matter. :cool:

Bottom line: be one of the elite level players in the world (1000+ rated), play a bunch of tournaments (thus being able to expose the sponsor to their desirable and impressionable demographic), and act like a Pro (unless you're REAL good, then you can act like a clown).
One angle to take on sponsorship, though, it talk to the company you work for. Inform them about the huge amount of charitable efforts are involved in many disc golf tournaments. Convince them to buy you a few shirts with the company name and logo, and to pony up some playing expenses. Convince them that it's good exposure for the company (especially if it's for a charitable event).
In the past I have been able to get my company to sponsor me when I ride in the MS 150 or to sponsor my boat for Marathon canoe races.

my company sponsors me at every tournament (of course I own the company)
All I have to do is where a T-shirt with my logo and it is totally legal.
I write it off as advertizing expence.
Nortel use to sponsor there employees, they even sponsored an employee tournament.

My sponsor is Baskethead Disc Golf out of Las Vegas Nevada. www.Baskethead.COM (http://www.Baskethead.COM) They give me free discs and free clothes and I wear their stuff and thank them when I Cash at tournaments.
