Personally, I don't give two flipping cents how many posts I have or anything like that....but why on earth would they stop showing post count.

Conrad said it encouraged ppl to post ***** (loose quote)...I think its just dumb not to show it. Was it hurting anyone?

I think its cool to see how many posts ppl have...

Thoughts?

I agree with the decision to drop the post count thing - yes, it was fun but then it seemed to go over-the-top.

Frequent readers of this message board will usually know who the frequent posters are!

Imagine there's no post count,
It's easy if you try,
No avatar below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no signature,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No titles too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Right now it seems that the monitors are paying more attention to non-paying non-members than they are to paid members. :(... I agree that post count is a petty issue but it would be nice if the option to have it or not, along with some of the other recent issues could be decided by a majority vote of the members and not just a few. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif....What is this password on my membership card for?...I thought it was so I could vote but it seems like that is just a once a year deal and even then it seems to be more about voting for board members and not much about issues. :( ...Sometimes it feels like some the free spirit generation where DG came from has grown old and went to work for the IRS. :p /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I know I am pissing people off (probably not supposed to say that word because there might me 5 year old girls reading this) but I totally think it was silly to do away with the post counter. I am on another message board that has about 20 times the users that this one has and they allow it, with very little problems.

I understand that this was a logical solution to people who were post whoring (probably can't say that word either). Why not deal with the problematic people individually rather than take the fun away for everyone?

Just stirring it up a bit. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Gary, you must have magical powers to shoot those numbers out. What if someone posted something like that monthly, but only for those over a certain post count #. That way the only ones that would even possibly have the temptation to post ***** would be those that already post a lot anyway.

It was my assumption that the main problem before were people with only 100-500ish posts that wanted to bump up to the next post level so they could get a different title.

Slo asked (in classic double post style) when my 6k post manifesto was. I can't quite recall, but I did find this.

Historic #4,000 March 1, 2004
__________________________________________________ ______

Well, here we are at last.

*smiles, as a big banner bearing the text 4,000 And Counting is unfurled, waits for applause to die down*

Ive often thought about this moment over the years, and what it would mean to me. Id like to start out by saying thank you, to all the little people that made this happen. Without them, being a rare and gifted smartass would have much less meaning.

A few people that I must give special thanks to must be singled out. In my early career as a professional message board poster, there were really two people that truly signified posting excellence and at the same time, futility in life. Those two people are here tonight and Id like for them to stand and be acknowledged. Randy and Nick, please rise.

*on the front row, and hand in hand, Randy Wimm and Nick Kight stand to roaring applause*

These two gentleman, one often wrong and misguided, the other his number one nemesis, went at each other with such fervor, that I knew I must not only be part of such a wonderful diatribe, but that I must stand with one and against the other. One of my earliest posts was an effort to get Nick to make his point without being such a hard case and so arrogant when responding to Randy. Through the years, as I learned what a pointless effort this was to be, I also learned a lot about posting, humor and developed my Hall of Fame style that would guide me throughout my career. I have at least hundreds of posts directly attributable to these two and their struggles over the years, and they as much as any two individuals are responsible for my astounding numbers. Thank you both, so much.

I would also be remiss if I failed to mention a gentleman who has become a great friend to me, as he has to the disc golf world. Chris, will you please stand up.

*paparazzi launch a feverish barrage of flashbulbs as Chris Himing, on the arms of two leggy Hooters girls, rises from the international seating section, where Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock and Barry Schultz are all enjoying Down Under margaritas*

There is little doubt that without the Texas 10 Charity Tour threads, and their subsequent evolution into the ZLT10 threads, that I wouldve had nearly as much to talk about, or respond to. The sheer numbers of smack posts directed at me on those threads regarding my putting, my abominable scores, guessing games to determined my over/under par efforts or birdie/bogey numbers enabled me to rack up some huge stats. Lump those in with the large number of legitimate posts regarding what made these events so worthy and the recent valiant efforts in the face of PDGA opposition to post scores for Chris events, and you have some idea of how invaluable to my career this man has been.

There are of course others who bear mentioning on this momentous occasion. Victor LeBlanc and Mark Bruce couldnt be here tonight as they complete their European tour of Championship Hair Pulling and Nipple Tweaking, but they are here in spirit. During a time in late 02 and into 03, these two staged a Wimm/Kight-esque battle that was inspiring to me as well as many others. *scattered and confused applause breaks out, then quickly dies away* It should be mentioned that Mr. Bruces Name My Tournament fiasco, ended up as the largest 3-hour post total in message board history.

John Conger, who has adopted the appropriate name of Schmack Daddy these days, was instrumental in teaching me how to avoid the appearance of post-whoring, by simply not following his lead of posting smiley faces to every thread.

Herm The Lefty taught me that just because you cant spell, that doesnt mean that you cant post. It does mean you probably wont make any sense, but you can, by god, post.

My Round Rock brothers and sisters, the most prolific posting club in existence have also contributed to my success. How many clubs have to create a new thread simply because the old one bogs down the server?

Also what HOF posting career wasnt enriched by a youngster by the name of Jedidiah Brightbill. The simplistic genius of the eternal message board question How Do I Throw My MRV, has defined how we see ourselves and jump started the careers of many of the message board elite. Thank you young man, for the profound impact you have had on us all (with apologies to ASCAP and BMI).

I cannot omit the importance of PDGA Rules Specific discussions in my rise to greatness. The 2-Meter rule, DROT, and 804.05 have all contributed mightily to my efforts on the board and have sparked (pun completely intended) numerous and hearty discussions on the course as well. God bless those who make the rules, for they are the ones who define our struggles against them.

Im often asked who I feel will be the next Marka. Who will be the next great poster. We live in an era of message board elitism that will make it difficult for a number of up and coming young stars to ever achieve the numbers posted by myself and my closest competitors, Nick Kight and Rhett Stroh. This is not to say that there is not some real talent out there. The aforementioned Schmack Daddy shows a lot of promise, as does a young man who seems to have improved on his techniques, Danny Kid Roc Reeves. A pair of Houstonians with some impressive stats are Larry Ching Lizard Kruse and John Gimp Edwards III. As Larry utilizes his Jekyll and Hyde style while John continues his efforts to one day hold an event in every city in Texas, these two are bound to be forces in the message board game. Chris Hysell could end his career with great numbers, but the quality of what was once a promising posting future seems to be flagging of late. Speaking of once promising careers, Kevin Barbie McCoy has likely ended what chances he had for HOF status (although some of his posts should be enshrined ala Pete Roses bats) by exiling himself to the threads north of the Red River. When it comes to humor the caliber of the once prolific Mr. McCoy, its impossible to ignore the fine work being done recently by young Tony Bender. Whether or not he can stand the test of time remains to be seen. Chris C-Dub Ware has both talent and numbers. With the Round Rock Dragons behind him, he could be a contender to the throne, someday. Gary Duke will be rising through the ranks as his new position of State Coordinator allows him numerous opportunities to defend himself from the unabated bashing that is inherent to that title. The venerable Chuck Kennedy, having recently incorporated humor into his offerings, is a name to watch as well.

As for newbies, Id say that Robbie Rooster Cooper is showing some real promise. If hed spend more time posting and less time on his journals, he could make a real impact. Although not a true newbie Adam Murphy, currently sporting the creepiest avatar on the block, has really stepped up his efforts of late.

In the world of women, recent developments could change the face of the womens posting division. The unfortunate and untimely retirement of Suzette Discette Helmick, has opened the door for a couple newly prolific ladies. Lindsay Girlie Merce and Danielle Team Evolution Vargas are displaying multiple posting skills that I must admit, even make me jealous.

Overall, there are some great posters out there with a wide range of opinions that run the gamut between brilliant and, well, less than brilliant. We should all be entertained by their efforts for years to come.

In closing,

*as the crowd awakes from its restless slumber, a slow but determined round of applause at the possibility of seeing the end of this excruciatingly painful post finally arrive, builds to a cacophony which rivals what it mustve sounded like when an assassins pellet nearly took from us, disc golfs most cherished buttocks*

Id just like to say that this magical trip to 4,000 posts has been a long strange trip filled with wonder and awe. Ive laughed, Ive cried, Ive thrown my keyboard and Ive learned so much about my fellow man.

To those who have taken offense to any of my posts over the years, Id like to say get a life. To those of you who have read this entire post, Id have to sayits already too late.

On to 5,000!

Thanks Mark; I'm not certain that's the one I'm thinking of...you were still #1 but 'passing the mantle' in that one; making predictions of the board's future, etc.
Well, if you come acrost it....
