My brother-in-law will be getting his pilot's license soon and offered to fly me to play some different courses. Problem is, once we land we have no transportation. Curious if there are any courses with small airports near by, like within taxi range.

McCarran isn't a small airport, but Sunset Park is across the street from the runway. Also, Mt Crest is about 6 miles from the smaller North Las Vegas airport.

Nashville...I think it's Seven Oaks park, is very close to the airport.
If you fly into Austin and give a shout out on the message board, I'll pick you up and drive you out to Dave Moody's Red Rock disc golf ranch for a few rounds.

PTI airport is close to Johnson Street Park in High Point NC.
About 5 miles. Plus some sweet private courses nearby.
If you let DG's know when you are flying in, someone might show you around.

Calvert Road Disc Golf Course in College Park, MD... we're not called the Calvert Flyers for no reason ;). Located next to the oldest private airport in MD, you can watch planes take off and land as you play a round!

Oh, and Greenville NC new course, "the meadow" is within walking distance of the airport.
I wouldn't walk though.
Tom bass in Houston is near hobby airport, very near to be exact!

I think SeaTac (Washington) is 36 holes on airport property so that should be real close.

It's probably 8-10 miles. A cab ride to the park and back would likely run a pretty penny, though.

Waller Pines, Santa Maria, California. The course is literally across the street from the small airport. (The back of the course.) You can walk it easily. Beautiful 27 hole course.
Emerald Isle, Oceanside, California. Prolly 4 miles max up El Camino Real. Very taxi-able.

Too bad the landing strip at Highbridge isn't ready yet...
I thank you all for the suggestions, but I will be leaving from Huntington, WV and trying to keep the flight rather short. I believe West Coast and Texas trips are out of the question for now. My pilot will still be a little green.

By the time you fly to Santa Maria via Oceanside and back, he will be a seasoned pilot! :)

The Queen City Municipal Airport in Allentown, PA (http://www.airnav.com/airport/1N9) is a short cab ride away from the Little Lehigh Parkway Pro Worlds 2005 course.
Do you play ball golf? Butter Valley Golf Port (http://www.buttervalley.com/) has an airport on the property!
You should just learn to skydive.
The marshall street courses are right near the airport in Worcester, MA.
El Dorado 2.4 mi from Long Beach Cosmopolitan Airport, SoCal.

In Bowling Green, KY you will probably fly over Lover's Lane on approach to the airport. Almost walking distance. As you bro should realize now, there are little airports EVERYWHERE. I've always thought flying in to close airports was the way to go.

if you consider central/east coast florida "close there are a couple of options
tuscawilla park in daytona beach is about 1/2 mile from the airport and rockledge disc golf course is about 200 yards or so from the rockledge disc golf course
have fun!!!
Jumping out would be the easy part..
Jumping back in would be a bit tricky

In fact, Pyramids abutts and briefly plays on airport land.
Dragan Field in Auburn Maine is right in the flight path for the regional airport in town (we often use the airport as a landmark when giving directions).
I'm not surprised that so many courses can be found near airports. There always seems to be available land near airports. It's either because municipal and regional airports tend to end up in the less populated areas of town or the land around the airport isn't the most desirable for housing (noise issues). Regardless, that's a bonus for disc golfers everywhere.

George Ward is about a 10 min car ride form the airport in Birmingham.
Probably outside your range at this time but the Waukegan course at Bevier park is walking distance from the Waukegan, Illinois airport. It is probably less than a mile depending on where you park the plane.

Addison airport is a short cab ride to Carrolltons coruses. Or even North Dallas Airpark. (even smaller)
The Denton Course is just a few miles from the Denton Airpark.
of course you have Bear Creek near DFW, but then DFW would not cater to small plains, same as the airport across the street from Bart in Austin.
Your best bet, contact local player by either calling the course pro, or leaving a message on this board. I am willing to bet someone will pick you up and give you a ride. I have done this many times for people staying at local motels or relitives.
I think SeaTac (Washington) is 36 holes on airport property so that should be real close.
man i can't beleive i've been up in seattle working at the airport off and on for the last three weeks and didn't think to look if there was a course near by
If your ever at the anchorage international airport for a while you should play Kincaid Park. Maybe 6 miles from the airport and gorgeous views of mountains and inlet. Huge park with lots of wildlife and I think there are maps at hole 1. Well worth the cab fare. If your in a small plane you can do some of the best lake fishing in the world too.

If this is Rockledge FL you're talking about, it would be the second time they have closed a course there. The first one opened in 1977(?) and closed in the late 80's when the Aviles family sold the land to Wal-Mart. They bought a new parcel a mile or so down the road and built a new course.
The first course was where I learned to play as a kid. I miss it...

The world-class Warwick course in Warwick, NY is about 5 miles from a small airport here in Warwick. There is a taxi service in Warwick and I suspect if we knew in advance you were coming we could probably find a local to retrieve you from the airport and play course tour guide....

Idlewild (18 hole, pro-par 72) is near the greater Cincinnati airport (CVG) but that may be too big of a place for you to land...?
check out the courses tab at: www.CincinnatiDiscGolf.com (http://www.cincinnatidiscgolf.com)
Let's see.....$80-120/hr for plane.......90-120 MPH......most destinations being posted 500-2500 miles.......makes a $200 ticket with united seem CHEAP.
