Hey everyone this is the beginning of my attempt to use all of the courses in San Diego County in one week. The plan is to play each course on its normal day get points for how you finish and see who has the most time in September to be San Diego's champ for 2005. 9/12 Mission Trails @ 3:30 p.m., 9/13 Bayside @ 5 p.m. with permission if granted, 9/14 Morley Field singles @ 4:40 p.m., 9/15 Emerald Isle 5 p.m., 9/17 Finals @ Sun Valley 8:30 a.m. 4 rounds to see who's champ.

I think the idea is to keep the weekly schedule intact, so that everyone that normally plays the weekday events would be the ones involved.

Of course we will try to plan as much as possible. This should be my last hurrah here in SD for a while. I would push it to the end of August but let's talk it over and see what works out. The most difficult will be Mission Trails and Bayside in my opinion. Or we could adjust the tee times once we know who's interested. I'll create a flyer and see how much interest there is.

The best way, would be to limit it to 2 divisions; ADV AM and Open. Require pre-reg with a deadline and no refunds to combat attrition.
Will it be sanctioned?

How would scoring work?

I think the players should get together and sort this out.
I looks like everyone wants this to happen.
5 courses is a Challenge , but very possible with correct communication and scheduling !!!!!!
If you keep SV=2nd Sat, and use the weekends of Sept. 10/11 and 17/18, the Monthlies of Sun Valley and Morley would just be there... http://www.geocities.com/meat_in_socal/yeah_yeah_REN.jpg waiting for you! :)
...unless Morley was Pro exclusive or 'booked' that month. :( http://www.geocities.com/meat_in_socal/Ren_mosquito.JPG

Well with some preliminary discussion, perhaps start on a Sat. the 10th @ Emerald, and end on the 17th @ Morley, 12th Mission Trails, 13th Bayside, 15th or 16th @ Sun Valley. Points system would work best I believe. Pre registration sounds good. I also think it will be small payouts for each day so that the top 3 overall get something when it's all said and done. Open and advanced only. Probably like $10 a day per person 5 seperate events one overall champ.
Is EI going to host a Monthlie by then? 'Cuz if you just want to do it in a week, you could keep the 10th SV, and wrap-it-up @ the Isle. ;)

Jul 12 2005, 04:04 AM
Well I guess what it pretty much comes down to is do we want to play more rounds @ Sun Valley or Morley. Of course I choose Sun Valley because we get to move the baskets and choose our tee pads. I think that in September I will have a couple of par 4's @ S.V. Hole 5 hopefully will have a new pin placement which will make 7 long fun. I also like the idea of 2 and 3 switching i.e. from 2 top pad to basket 3 right position. Then from top pad 3 to left basket 2.

The U.S. Masters Disc Golf Championships, the only PDGA Major event held in SoCal, is September 16-17-18. Hopefully the local old guys will be playing (there are am divisions offered again) and the local young guys will contact Tim Selinske (
[email protected]) and help out.
I guess what I'm saying is that that is not a good weekend for this series.
If we have it at the right time, I'll do the points. There are a lot of different ways to calculate them, but we can decide what we think will work the best.

I'm not in charge of this thing, so I don't care what the rules are. It's just funny how much SLO is like a virus, he shows up and acts like he was born and raised in SD and tells us the dates he would like. I have never even heard of him playing a tournament, all he does it talk about them on the intenet. I just think it's funny.
I'm not involved in the SD Series, so I don't care either way.

If you have a lot of weekdays, even after 5pm, I think you will greatly limit the field of players. It is possible to get in 4 courses in 2 days over one weekend. For example, Saturday in the a.m. play Morley and then in the p.m. play Mission Trails. Then on Sunday, play Emerald Isle in the a.m. and then Sun Valley in the p.m. This would be all four of the permanent San Diego County Courses. I like the idea of 2 divisions, open and advanced. If you used the "Underground" courses" Then I would like to see Bayside, Presidio, Grape, Rose and UCSD used. Just some thoughts. I also think if you use these courses, that you need 18 baskets set up before the round, so nothing is moved. One last thing, It would need to be on some flyers, because not everyone reads these posts here.
Richard
I'm funny then! :)
I've got to protest the implication I'm trying to take charge, however; just adding to the dialog!
...you're right about the competition, though!

If it's really the San Diego Series, shouldn't it be played on the permament courses?
4 courses in 2 days sounds pretty good.
I'd like to see a "King of the Kounty" version where we tried to play all 4 in one day, though. :) Maybe with a zero-dark-thirty tee off at MT before the first ball golfers go out would make it doable. Go from there to SV to Morley, with a finish at EI.
No need for points in either of those scenarios. Plus you could have more divisions. No need to limit it to Adv and Open.

That sounds like an Epic!
I know Grands here in the Basin who do this annual thing of 100+ holes, over 5-6 courses*. Billy Henley, Lowell Glover for sure and some other guys do...a large hunk of that.
Plus, aren't the Freeways supposed to be more 'direct' down there? Epic, but doably epic.

I have heard rumors about a club called the "San Diego Free Flyers", or something like that. Several years ago I tried to find out more about it and how to join, but it seems kind of secret. I was unsuccessful in tracking anything down about them.
Back then it seemed like it was more of a DC club than anything else.
I'd like to get a North County DG club going.
