My birthday is tomorrow, girls, and my MIL called me to tell me happy birthday since she will have to work all day tommorrow and didn't want to forget to call me. Well, she ended up taking me out to buy my VERY FIRST, VERY OWN discs! WOOHOO! I was like a kid in a candy store. Unfortunately, they didn't have any lower weighted discs. The lowest I found were like 168. I bought a driver at that weight (Teebird, I think) and also got a putter/approach at 171. I had been using my husbands discs every time I ever played and it just feels SOOO good to have my OWN now! The 171 putter is what I had been using of his. Same exact kind. Same exact weight, just different color. But I have my own now.
Can you tell I'm excited?
Addie~ I wanted to find a Valkyrie, but they didn't have anything less than like a 170. When don't you cancel your plans for Saturday and come play at UAH? haha. ;) I took my new ones out and practiced for about an hour. I do pretty well with the putter. Still working on my drive. :o:o
Are there any other discs that you all would recommend to have in my bag (when I get one that is)? ;)

Valks are my favorite.
BUT everyone swears by a Roc...for me, it's a Spider. That's the best putter for wind.
Stratus, Leopards and Stingrays are great beginner discs as well as Gators and Sharks. I have many lightweight discs I can pass on to you!
Y'all should've seen Jeni's "get up and go" off the teebox. LOL :DShe is so excited about this sport and that's just what we need!!
See you Tuesday if not before!!
Don't know why I'm browsing the Womens forum but I was :)
Either way..... Congrats on your first discs.
Since I throw like a girl I can recommend a couple discs, one would be a DX Cheetah the other a DX Gazelle.
I am a newer player & the Cheetah (on my 3rd one now as I lost one & the other is swimming somewhere) was my first disc. Once broke in a bit it flys great. It will highspeed turn right & then glide & fade back towards the middle. (<-RHBH)
Awesome disc.
The Gazelle also flies well but has a bit more low speed fade.
Go out & practice & you'll be beating that hubby of yours in no time.
(p.s) I want a disc golf girl http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/traurig/sad-smiley-040.gif
Juli uses the new Avenger a lot. And I have seen other ladies do really well with it.
For light plastic, if you are not afraid to buy online, you may try some sites for, and by, women such as Disc Diva. And get yourself a soft putter like a Soft Aviar or Soft Magnet. ( I don't recommend a light putter though. Stick with at least 170 )
Don't wait around for your local club or retailer to get some light stuff.
Oh, BTW. ROCS are incredible!
I took my girl to marshall street and let her shop.
She came up with a good mix for her without my help at all.
162 panther(her go-to disc)
164 spitfire(floats, in the pond still)
157 wizard
At world fly mart she added a,
161 orion(she loves)
165 roc(not her fav)
two 162 panthers(backups)
I got her a 167 pro beast(in the car)
Two 162 champion panthers(in the car)
Two months into learning to play,
She picked the best discs for her game.
The Dragon only comes in 150 class so that may be a good disc to try. My fience plays every once in a while and that's one of her favorite discs. Last time we went out she used a 148g Archangel and played the best I've ever seen her play.

Some other good discs to try are the Polaris LS and JLS in 150 class. They will be easier to throw straight. I throw Valks and Eagles, but still have both a LS and a JLS in the bag.
I've alway had a Roc. I've settled on a 168 X-out CE Roc from Zonedriven. Though to get, for sure, but I love it. I picked up a Champion Spider and it looks like it should be a nice mid. A friend had a Champion Cobra that really worked for her.
I agree about keeping the putter over 170 g. They will just plain work better in all conditions.
Welcome to the girls club. ;)
I throw lighter (150, 160s) drivers, heavy midranges (well, 166 buzzzzzzz and 175 spiders), and a light-ish putter (166 currently my money putter, but I throw 166-170 putters).
A lot of it depends on the plastic for me as well. For instance, that 166 putter is a CE Aviar, and the heavier 170s are softer, grippier, such as soft magnets or glo aviars. Also, I love my dx spiders 175, but champs I drop down a bit.
I suggest you take everyone's advice, mix it around in your brain a little bit, and then just try throwing a bunch of plastic and figure out what works for your game. Best of luck, and keep letting them fly!

DeLynn has had a lot of success using the lighter drivers. She has been using a Champion Stingray, DX scorpion, and Champion Valk for her tee shots and approaches. Still working on getting a midrange disc in her bag.
Disc-Diva has some of the best gear for women. She will be in Amarillo for the Top of Texas Open (Aug. 27 & 28) so come check it out.
