Probably Basso, or even Vino if he can learn to take orders and get on a strong team.

He really should. It would be really nice to at least see a LAF rep at the final, but preferably Lance himself.

Ether Jan ULLRICH a former tour champion and he has never been out of the top 5 or Alexandre VINOKOUROV has been coming on strong in the last two years he can win in the mountains, on the flats, and he's a good time trialest.
8 top-4 finishes for Mr. Ullrich...even Indurain[5], Anquetil[6], Merckx[6], Hinault[7], and Armstrong[7] couldn't do that. :cool:1980 Winner [and 6x runner-up] Joop ZOETEMELK had ten such finishes...he was in the top-10 a dozen times.
The U.S. can now claim more winners [10] than the home of Masi, Coppi, Colnago & Campagnolo: Italy [9, last 1998]. This, in a competition not ventured-into before Jonathan Boyer, in 1981...Mr. Boyer finished 32th that year, and peaked @ 12th in 1983. Jonathan rode for Renault-Gitane. The average speed for the winner was 36.23 km/h that Tour. 41.654 was needed in 2005.
Besides Discovery Ch. and U.S. Postal, 7-Eleven and Motorola were title sponsors of the same team, but at different times.
Next Tour, Discovery should get Ekimov back; Valverde was the top Junior...don't count out Stage winner Hincapie...it should be a great show next year, even sans Lance, once again!

I think you meant Popovych when discussing Discovery.
Valverde was riding for Illes-Ballears
Valverde dropped, Popovych won the white jersey.
Claro. :o
Popo was top Junior, finished 12th overall, and will only be age 26 Tour 2K6.

Gov of Texas
He sure hasn't ruled out politics; in fact he's mentioned he has the aptitude.
...I just stumbled on some Tour/Lance programming on Discovery last night; I didn't see it listed, but it ran something like 11p-3a [p]. One was called "Chasing Lance" and spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel, where Trek, Nike, and the whole Team Discovery try and boost his advantage over the field. I'm not sure if Shimano is that "into" it.

Armstrong earned a historic seventh straight win after Sundays final stage of the Tour de France. Now he is looking ahead to turning 34 in September and new horizons: everyday life, the fight against cancer and maybe so far, its still just a maybe elected office.
To me politics are about fighting for what you believe is right, he said Thursday. Ive always done that on the bike, on a purely sporting level, but also on another level.
Armstrong knows he has plenty of time to decompress and think it over.
Im 34 years old and Im retired, Armstrong said. So that is a little daunting. Theres a lot of life to live.
