As many of you already know, Ruth Gurthie passed away last weekend. Ruth is the mother of Ben, Evan, Alex, Garrett and Virginia. We can not put into words what this family means to the sport of disc golf and the future they have in this sport. I would like to send my deepest condolensces out to all of the Gurthie family and close friends.

From the last PDGA Member News:

"In Memory of Ruth Gurthie

[Here's a photo of a beautiful disc I was given by the Gurthies a couple of years ago - http://www.scup.org/terry/rgurthiedisc.jpg - I've had it hanging on the wall in my office ever since, and that's where it will remain.]

Those of you who have met any of the "Gurthie boys" know what a wonderful influence their mother, Ruth, who passed away last weekend, was on them. They are great disc golfers and wonderful people, and we will all miss Ruth. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gurthies.

As many of you know, not only did Ruth battle many illnesses through the years, but her five children and surviving spouse are in need of financial assistance, partly due to tremendous medical bills. Danielle Sigrist [email protected] and Jennifer McCray [email protected] are organizing efforts in that direction and would be glad to hear from anyone who can help.

And I have also heard, more recently, from Tim Naylor, who says:

"Our Florida Disc Golf community is going to be raising funds to take the children back to school shopping and will be taking donations. The contact person for the funds is Brian Kilgore and can be contacted at [email protected] .

Any help getting the word out would be much appreciated as I know many of our fellow disc golfers around the world would be upset if they were not informed of the situation with the Gurthies and were not given the chance to help. These kids mean everything to our community and they have done alot for the sport through the years."

Hello,

This is Jen McCray and I wanted to thank everyone who has donated to the family. I know Danielle and I have been very busy accepting donations and purchasing school supplies etc.

It is very nice to know that all in all we are one big family even though we don't live right next door to each other.

SO THANK YOU ,
Jen
