So now the hot rumor on the streets is some top pros will not come to Texas States???? Why????
Because I took the event over instead of letting it die? Vowing to run it for the players like it has always been?
Because the LSS will have its bonus payout there? How the hell does that effect you if you dont play a LSS event? It is still all the same regular payout as before
Because the schedule and some of the locations had to change in some spots because of personal issues???
If you think Team Disaster is here just to make money you dont know much about the ins and outs of doing what we do
Be men and speak your [darned] mind instead of being background pansy ******* crap talkers.

I'm certainly not a top pro, nor have a heard anything about this rumor, nor can I even imagine what reason would be behind it, but I know John is a good TD and will put on a good show, the courses are sweet, and you might even catch a MLB playoff game during that period. :D
Don't worry John, there can't be any reasons good enough to prevent any reasonable people from playing.
What is everyones obsession with being The MAN!
Why cant they just jump aboard and work with you on something they claim to want anyway???? There IS an open invitation for just that.
Gimp, you should be commended for having the balls they dont have. But no, they are to egotistical to admit that they are all talk and werent gonna do [I'm a potty-mouth!] from jump street and hold Texas down for years to come.
Yea, I know no one is listening to me becasue I am obviously good friends with Gimp. Trust me, if he was doing something boneheaded I would be the first to smack him for it. The fact is that he put into action something no one else was willing to. Yes you can all SAY you were gonna do this or that but at some point you gotta walk the walk and NO ONE over the several years of talking has done it. Gimp was presented with the opportunity to run states and that opened the door for him to make a statewide series culminating at the State Championships. No toes were stepped on, no dates were stolen and he has invited ANYONE who wants to be apart to contact him.
It is truly a shame and embarrassing to say the least.

I'm refraining from posting on a tournament thread and hijacking it's intent for posting tourney info!
...
I strongly agree with the post from Nez about the name of [Texas State Disc Golf Championship] our tournament needs to stay at Tom Bass park. The fact that many Texan TDs want to have a true championship series now, is a really great thing though. I proposed an idea about having a championship series 2-3 years ago to most of the Texas TDs and it received very little response and mostly criticism. Glad to read that the times may be a changin'! :D
The concept of a Texas Championship series was probably being batted around long before I became involved, so I don't claim any ownership over the concept, but I was discouraged by the response I got from it...discouraged enough not to keep driving for it in the face of an up-hill battle. (It would probably be in poor taste to post some of the responses, wouldn't it?)
I heard a rumor earlier this year that there was talk (finally) about putting together a series, but I was pretty firm about the name of TSDGC staying in Houston...I hear rumors now that there has been talk through "other channels" about trying to use that name for the series...well guys, how come nobody wanting to use that name has been talking to anyone in Houston about it?
(I think that it might be possible under certain circumstances - how about every other tournament has to change their traditional name too?)
The tournament organizers in Houston have worked long and hard to make it what it is. Brand name recognition means a lot.
Whatever else you decide you might want to call such a series, HFDS and Houston disc golfers will support it. [Although I particularly like the idea of seeing a whole bunch of cities sanctioning one of their events as a Texas State Championship qualifier. I would love to see the purse for such a series finale be so large that we fill all 3 courses every year...only a Worlds-sized event with it's 4 courses could host a larger field of players! (Wouldn't that be a cool event for Texas players to go to? !?!?!)]
What if it was a tour but the finals stayed in H-town?

The rumors are news to me, and I would discourage anyone from not attending Texas States for any reason unless it is held in July, and that won't happen.
The use of the name was discussed with Houston, they were not in favor of letting it go, so it was dropped. End of story. It should be bigger and better than ever and stay in Houston with recent changes to the schedule.
Some other things may be happening as well, but like Larry, I get tired of fighting uphill battles. I've got enough things to keep me busy and cause me enough grief that I don't need to fight every week with a dozen TDs as well.

Hey, I played in at least 2 Texas State Championships here in Carrollton back in the day. Houston does not own the name by any means.
But with that being said. Houston has done a good job with it.

Gimp, you sound like your head is about to explode. Who travels to Texas anymore anyways?
I seem to remember the Texas State Championships only having Texas players 2 years ago anyways.
Trust me, don't get your panties in a wad over the VERY FEW traveling Pros who don't care about anything other than payout.
Look to your fellow in state customers. Try to attract the best from LA and OK. You can fill the field this way.
Why have I not played states in 7 years???
#1 Pro division entry fee was just too hight
#2 With all the top Pro's there, I have even less of a chance to cash.
#3 have only traveled to one 2 day out of Dallas tournament in the last 5 years.

Bryan - actually the name is registered in Harris County and with the State of Texas. I agree with you about the level of entry fees being pretty high (particularly Pro divisions) but they have not been raised in over 4 years now other than by the increase in PDGA fees... I'd also venture to say that you'd be very likely to hit the cash line in the Open division too! :D
As long as tournaments are measured by a standard of total purse payout, there is no incentive for a TD to lower entry fees. IMO a better standard of measurement ought to be the attendance figure. It has been debated about the possibility of sanctioning the tourney as a C-tier and paying out at near the A-tier level anyway. Would players get upset at receiving a smaller player pack and fewer "Worlds invite points" in leiu of possibly lower entry fees and higher total payout? - I don't know...
I do agree with the thoughts that we shouldn't worry about attracting touring players. We've demonstrated that high Pro payouts don't attract many/any touring players. Although I'd love to see some of the touring guys tearing up our courses, this tournament is about bringing all of Texas' best players together in one place for one of the biggest and best competitions in the State.

I personally love Tx States. The deeper the water the better. :DI'd only miss this event if something unforeseeable came up.
I certainly haven't heard any DFW people saying anything about boycotting the event.

I dont know if this is considered "nutting up" but I also have always enjoyed Texas States.
I only have played it twice but there seemed to be a lot of players and good pros also. The only complaint I have ever heard was about the weather (wimps :D)
Tx States is an awesome tournie, dont miss it.
