My son asked me if there has ever been a roller ace. I told thim that I bet there has been, but I don't know of one. Has anyone ever seen one before?

And now a roller story....

Several years back my brother, Kyle, was playing in KC Worlds. The hole was pretty much a long straight shot with a tree line to the right and tennis courts to the left. His disc flipped over and he went into the tree line. The only shot he had was a two finger roller, but there was a large tree across the fairway. So he decides to go for it anyway. He throws and as the disc rolls to the tree trunk he yells "Jump!".

The disc hops over the trunk and rolls on to the basket. The guys playing with him were amazed at his voice activated disc and I believe cast desparinging remarks upon him that might have also implied something about my parentage.

I have had one bounce up and hit the basket.

Never seen one but I think in one of the ace threads here, someone posted about one...

The first ace ever at The Woodshed in Paw Paw was on hole # 14 done with a forehand (two-finger) roller. And it only took 10 years of play to finally get one (ace that is)

Nolan Grider had a roller hit the pan on Hole 5 at Z-Boaz. That was when the ace pot was over $1500. It was a crazy shot.

I witnessed a roller ace, but didn't see it!

Years and years ago, my friend Jonathan and I were playing Peaks View Park in VA. We got to hole 5 which is a gentle downhill 275 foot hole with numerous trees including a big cedar in front of the tee so you can't see the pin. Unusually enough, my friend had dislocated his shoulder and was playing left-handed. He tried to throw his backhand drive too hard and it wobbled and turned over into a roller. We both started laughing at his poor shot and bent over to get our bags when we hear CHING!!! It just sucks that we didn't see it!

I've nailed the cage with a backhand roller before. Hole 4 at Peaks View where righty backhand roller is the preferred shot. It hopped up just in front the basket, it just needed to jump about 4-6 inches higher.

Rob Harding told me that he aced the "top of the world" at DeLaveaga with a roller.

My dad had a roller hop into the basket and cut striaght through with a roller. I have hit the basket before and had a few more close calls on a roller ace but I rarely throw rollers anymore so I doubt I will ever get one. :D:D

At an unsanctioned tournament at Madeline Bertrand a few years ago a guy in my group had a roller ace. It was on that hole on the back nine that was originally shaped like a backwards question mark, but now that the schule has been thinned to extinction you can kind of go straight at it over the little ridge. No one saw the ace. The hole is blind from the tee.

Didn't you almost have a roller ace somewhere Bruce? I thought you hit above ground metal on a roller sometime when we were playing together. Or was that on the really cool course in the middle of nowhere that we meet at and play in our dreams?

I have heard of rollers that ended up suspended 2 meters above the playing surface up in trees and were thus double penalized. i hear Schweb has experienced that in tournament play...

wouldn't this thread fit better under the "throwing techniques" category?

Never seen a roller ace...dreamt of one though

Funny roller story:
Playing Oshtemo Park in Kalamazoo on hole 9 I rolled to get out of the tall stuff and the disc went about 80 feet, hit a tree and ran up it to what we estimated about 40-50 into the air, rolled on the bottom side of a branch for about 3-4 feet, and shot back towards my group who was standing ahead of my lie. A long way to get to a safe "out".

I have done more whacky things with rollers than I can recount, but I don't recall ever hitting metal.

Speaking of meeting for disc golf in our dreams, I dreamed we were all at Mom & Dad's, including Lynn, Paul and Ann. In the dream I knew who died but now I've forgotten. Anyway it was winter and about 3:00 p.m. and I said, "Hey we could get in nine at Adler before dinner," so we took off. The next moment in the dream we are coming home and it is dark. I said, "Did we play Adler?" And you said, "What do you mean? We just played 18 holes." I said, "I don't remember it at all." You said, "Well, you seemed relatively normal, so maybe you are dreaming." I said, "If I'm dreaming, why would I skip the disc golf part?! I know Adler in my sleep. I can dream about playing Adler!" And you said, "If you're dreaming, you need to ask those questions of yourself."

Yep, my doubles partner Dave Cooper threw a disc that flipped over more than he meant it to, it rolled, hit a rock and jumped OVER a creek landing in the basket on the other side. It wasn't an intentional roller, but it wasn't an intentional ace either. :D

Also, he's a lefty.

Yes unfortunately that happened to me in Bowling Green in 2002. It cost me quite a bit of money. It allowed KC and Barry to pass me and I tied with with Feldberg for 7th. Hole 18 Keriakes
