Went up and played Sylmar today for the first time since the re-design.

Wow, very nice. Nice flow, nice holes.

Great job done by the Ricos and company.

Jr. and I played there back in August at the tail end of the 2005 Tour de Rizbee. The crew was in the process of putting on the finishing touches. It is a very nice design - i think they made the most of the elevation changes and used the large trees well. I also liked some of the tees that they built using landscape bricks to create level surfaces. We hope to be playing there in Feb.

er.....Jr.'s 'real' name is "A.J.", right? Nice toss!

Just musing: Unless there's room for 9 'extra' holes, or 9 ghost cards there, 90 AMs=Fivesomes for both Saturday rounds.

"Max 90 players" pretty much always means five-somes on 18 holes.

...in base 10 math, yes. I gather some people prefer 5-somes; I didn't.

119 AMs, 76 Pros in 2005. That's a big AM, and a pretty-darn-big Pro field, yes? :)

Another light going on: Wintertime was only a 27-layout when they brought in the Temp Baskets; it only says "and on Sunday we will play one round at Oak Grove.", so, 'they' probably will 'just' play 18s, eh?
Anybody know for certain the Sundays' plans?

I'm betting 20 holes on Sunday, but that is only me guessing.

It's easy to fit 90 people on 20 holes. Not so easy to fit 100 on 18.

Yes - the dude's name is A.J. - you have a good memory. What caught me off guard here is that (I'm assuming) you're referencing something I said on another thread. His near-ace was a sweet shot.

Rightright. :)

....a 20-hole round; when's the last time that happened? But I guess if one is going to 'all the trouble' of split venues, printing a 20-hole scorecard isn't that big of a deal.

Now, NOT being one of the first 90 to enter, THAT would be a big deal....fewer spots this year folks; get-er-done.

O.K so since this my homecourse now! Let me jus say a few words. Mad props to the Sylmar folks (Bamba, Stevie, Gary etc...) for gettin this course in the shape it's in. This new layout is soooooooo much better than the old one. I really like how its comin along. Nice baskets, nice teepads, the landscape is lookin a lil better. It used to look like a dump. I think they've come a long way in a short period of time. Lookin forward to playin the Wintertime fo sho!!! Congrats to the homie "bud" for the first ace of 2006 . Hole 3 (focker ^_^)
