Rain dampens Ice Bowl turnout

More than 60 players participated Jan. 28 in the annual Live Oak Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament.

"Although there was more rain than ice, the players gamely made it through the tournament whose official slogan is 'No Wimps No Whiners,'" said event spokesman Jay Reading.

The tournament was played at the disc golf course in Live Oak City Park.

"The turnout was lower than expected due to a less than favorable forecast, but spirits were high amongst the players that did turn out," Reading said.

Despite having 45 fewer players than last year, the Live Oak Ice Bowl raised 630 pounds of food for the Greater Randolph Area Services Program.

Ice Bowl players also raised $1,200 for the Educational Disc Golf Experience program (www.edgediscgolf.org) in the Judson School District. That program introduces disc golf to students in the district.

Players for the Ice Bowl came from the local areas as well as Houston, Austin, Temple and Corpus Christi and Illinois, Virginia and Arizona, Reading said.

Well Victoria was COLD and WET but still fun, I was gald to see Live Oak was well represented. :D

Congrats to Keith Baker 3rd in open master, Nelle 2nd in open women and to all the other who braved the wet and cold not to metion the wind :D

It's ok the LURKER Pete Lopez called me and he has bag tag #7 and it's on.

for 3rd coast challenges, all tag holders drop their tag in a box, then final scores (for three rounds - no final9) determine what you come home with. as long as everyone plays the same tees and same course, its all fair. not saying its the best way, just that's how they do it.
