How are Innova X outs legal to throw in a sanctioned PDGA event? If these discs do not meet factory specifications, how do they meet PDGA specifications? I could understand if they were misprints but they are not. This would mean that they are flawed in there design and therefore should be illegal to throw in a sanctioned event since they do not meet the standard.

are they legal to throw?
i'm fairly certain x-out golf balls are illegal to use in the PGA, but not sure.

Xouts have minor flaws in the plastic. Some have bubbles and some have demples. It really does not change the disc that much.
The disc companys dont want to lose money, ;) I bet you can use them .

X-outs only have cosmetic flaws. I have heard (read) from both Dave D. and Keith M. any disc that has defects which affect the form, function, design, or the flight of the disc are destroyed at the factory. Likely just melted back down and remolded.
X-outs meet all technical requirements as standard QC passed discs.

The theory behind my question is that, if the disc is flawed, even if the flaw is minor. This would change the disc and would need PDGA approval. The disc is then not the same disc. example: a flawed tee-bird is not a tee-bird, not only are the flight characteristics changed, the overall dimensions of the disc are changed, hence the disc is no longer a teebird. Just because the stamp says that the disc is a tee-bird doesn't mean that it is still a tee-bird.
did you even read what is posted above by Kris?

The errors are generally cosmetic and do not effect flight.
Oops, I didn't read the one above either.

X-outs are not limited to flaws in the disc itself but could also be just hotstamping flaws.

If that were the case, then any disc with a ding in it wouldn't be a true insert-name-of-any-disc-here.
The small flaws (bubbles, dips in the rim, off center hot stamp) aren't enough to change any flight characteristics.
Disc approval has more to do with flexibility and weight to diameter than some small ding in the mold.

An X-out Teebird is still a teebird.. there is just as much variance in the molding process as there probably is in the acceptable qualifications of an x-out..
When i was an #$*&$! and first started playing i throw proline/champ beasts.. Each one i had was completely different than the other and they were all premium discs....

x outs are fine to throw, one of my favorite discs i had was a x out champ starfire until i threw it into Winthrop's lake on hole 5.

I throw a coulpe of X-outs. I have an old X-out CE Eagle that I love, nice and flat. I have an X-out CE Roc from last year. Great weight, and super predictable. The little specks in the disc give it character.

In a similar vein, are discs marked prototype that are subsequently approved by the PDGA legal?

Nice...........I have a Clear X-out Aviar and Spider.
It seems like if you went with the logic that x-outs aren't the same disc then you'd have to say the DX Valkyrie that left most of itself in a tree at Walnut Ridge wouldn't be legal either... and trust me, that's NOT just a cosmetic flaw, but I like what it does now better than before :D

Most of the X out missed stamped discs that each company offers are merely misprinted on the foil or in Gateways Case over runs of custom stamps, although some have cosmetic flaws like runner cold slugs in the glight Plates, it usually doesnt effect the flight,
Short shots ( dimples in the wing or maybe on top) DO EFFECT THE FLIGHT, usually making the disc less over stable on acceleration ( less resistance to turn) and easier to flip up from a hyzer release. It works out great for overstable discs like our Illsuions Spirits and Speed Demons and we may even make a wing with dimples on it similiar to a golf ball Just to see of it changes the stability and flight!
Making the comparison that runs of discs could fly as differently the short shots es absluttely the best anology somoen could make and a perfect reason the discs should still be legal to use ( assuming the disc meets all the technical standards).
If these discs were not allowed to be used the price of golf discs would increase by 10-20% abd I'm pretty sure players wouldnt want that to happen.
Sorry to jump on the "INNOOA X out" thread with My Gateway promotions, but we offer 5 miss print discs for $35 or 10 for $50
For those interested in picking up a stack of Wizards to putt with or as practice putters, we have plenty of missed prints and even about 200 black that are blank CHALKY prototype runs that are very difficult to stamp.
We have miss prints in just about all of the other models of discs as well. PM me or
[email protected]
Sorry about the partial thread hike, but i Did add some info ;)

I've got two: one in the bag & one backup. Both clear as window glass with no pigment, but with a few medium-sized bubbles. Thus the lighter weights & Xout status.
