Is this event happening? It's not on the PDGA schedule and with less than a month to go, there's no flyer on the SoCal website.

The TD, Wally Moore, is in the process of getting PDGA sanctioning and preparing the flyer. It should be up on the So Cal site in a few days.

Michael McNamara (the So Cal Webmaster) is working with Wally to get the registered players entered at PDGA.com.

Michael will also be helping out with So Cal duties at the event this weekend.

It is great that Wally is stepping up to volunteer this year.

Try the Super-8 if you don't want to drop $175+. Hotels in that area are expensive.

Registration is online via the "PDGA Tour" link above. Thanks to whoever got that done. :)

Suzette, there are currently 4 players registered for Rec that have ratings too high for Rec. You might want to help Wally sort that out.

That's where we're staying. Less than 20 miles from the course but saving boo-coo bucks! There's a motel 6 (or 8?) off of Santa Clause exit that's not too skanky (for a 6 or 8!).

I have asked the TD if Mike Bass were pre-registered prior to April 18. If he was he can remain in Recreational. Mike Babin is probably a mistake. He usually plays Advanced Masters. Ben usually plays Masters or Grandmasters, so that could be a mistake too.

Later in the year, So Cal will again petition the PDGA to allow players who moved up in ratings after July and September to play the remaining series events and So Cal Championships in the divisions where they started. (This is provided they played at least five events by that time, or haven't moved up on their own.)

ANHYZER
Apr 26 2006, 04:05 PM
The petition for baggers is a lame idea. If you get better throughout the year, you should move up and play where you belong. Staying in a baby division to bag and win is pretty disheartening for the players who really belong there.

Apr 26 2006, 05:19 PM
I believe the people that would request this are doing so because they are in the race to win the SoCal points series, not to play down and bag. I would guess most of these people only play SoCal so SoCal is more important to them than PDGA.
Now this person at the evergreen should not get to play Rec if his rating has gone up, it has been longer than two weeks since the ratings went in, and I read the rule as 2 weeks prior to the event, not registration.

rhett

]...it has been longer than two weeks since the ratings went in, and I read the rule as 2 weeks prior to the event, not registration.

Two weeks prior to the event is April 15th, and the ratings came out on the 17th. So if these guys were pre-regged by the 15th they would be okay.

I'm also going to assume that they aren't even aware that their ratings went over the Rec limit. What's the point in assuming the worst, anyway? They aren't PDGA BOD members. So let's just say that they didn't know they were no longer qualified for the Rex division, and we'll drop it and let the SoCal Prez and the tourney TD handle it now that they know. :)

As for the ratings lock, SoCal has been doing that since the ratings and rating-limit am divisions came out. I believe it is fair when the lock is after the halfway point in the season. SoCal Points, Series Champion, and a shot at the SoCal Team for the NorCal/SoCal Challenge are all worth playing for. And if you played over half the season in one division, doesn't that make you a "real" member of that division?

It seems that SoCal should change its policy on points. If a player starts the year in Int. and their rating increases beyond the threshold they should be forced to play up (or where they "really" belong) and be allowed to carry-over the points from Adv. to Int. for the series. They should never be allowed to bag. Think about it from the true Int. player's perspective...If you need help visualizing, let me play Intermediate.

Where is everybody??? The Santa Barbara crowd usually does a great job of raising money for payout. I know the am side is hurting because they are scheduled against the Am Masters Cup tourney, but what about the pros?

I don't know how he can start you earlier than after the am second round. Unless the total for the tourney stays under 90 and he groups you into our second round.
