Wow, this is some awesome footage.

Barry is amazingly restrained after the missed tap-in, which comes at about 21:40; I'd be fuming. Showing his true professionalism, he comes right back with a deuce on the next hole.

I still think the bamboo wall makes hole 7 one of the silliest things I've ever seen in all of disc golf. The artificial elements remind me of Pro Worlds 1999 at Chili, but as an almost completely open and flat field, they had no natural hazards to work with. There is surely something better they can come up with at Winthrop rather than putt-putt golf elements, right? Or can a rotating windmill be far behind? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D

I liked that hole. There are two easy routes, each with some danger: Up the gut and through the gap where you might hit the wall, and the hyzer where you might hit the wall if you're too weak or you might go OB if you're too strong.

I think that hole works quite well. It is absurd to compare it to a rotating windmill as the challenge of the hole is real, static, and the same for everyone.

I just don't see the need to have blatantly artificial elements on a golf course. Hence, the putt-putt comparison.

Also, when Billy says "John Houck walking with the Boobs". It's Kim Scott-Wood he is walking with. :DCommon Billy, you know me better than that :D

What's a bunker? Most inland courses do not have much in the way of natural sand pits.

The Augusta National course gets tweaks every year to elevate the challenge to keep up with the world's best players. granted, they have millions of dollars and countless man hours to spend, moving trees and planting new ones and grading fairways, that's all artificial. Punishing bad shots in disc golf is pretty tough without obstacles... unless we made 10 foot deep bunkers.

I just seems to me like there is some good land with natural hazards on the Winthrop U. campus that could be used instead. Several years ago I played a recreational layout there that included some par 3 holes in the woods on a hill near the end of the lake. Would these holes be inappropriate for the USDGC?

those holes are good holes, but don't do a good job of showcasing disc golf too much, IMO. 200 uphill hyzer and 180 downhill with a little risk of OB on each.

Forcing an extreme hyzer, thumber, or a perfectly thrown straight shot just seems like a better showcase of our talent. Each player gets to play it with their best shot, and watching 4 people take different routes on that hole is fun to watch. Most players aren't used to an obstacle as blatant as that bamboo wall, but years ago, the ring of trees played essentially the same, albeit, more naturally. I see straight shots, anhyzers, thumbers, heck, I even throw sky hyzers trying to get in there on the lakefront layout.

Both are challenging in their own way. Winthrop has requested that we "permanentize" the wall, but nothing has happened just yet.

By the way Matt, once you break those shoes in a bit, they rock. They really let my feet breathe.

The Winthrop Gold Course is proof that course designers are getting too afraid that someone might actually birdie a hole they designed.

Anyone know how to download this first, so I don't have to wait for it to buffer and eat up the bandwidth of our entire network?

I was talking about the video of all the interviews that were taken, and they had three cameras and 2 camera man per camera follow around 3 player for two rounds, there was supposed to be a neat video about how a player prepares for his round what his reactions are during the round and so on, I'm sure it cost a lot of money to do this just wanted to know what happened to all that footage, I was told in March that it would be out by August and here we are getting closer to Dec and haven't heard anything, would be nice to know.

Without the video, there'e no way you can really prove you played in it.
Just like without the video, there's no way you can really prove you aced Hole 1 (long position) at Waterwoks. :D
