Hello all,
I am very excited to post the following.
I waited till now because I did not want to get myself and many of you all fired up and then let down, BUT WE"RE ON!!!!

Next Tuesday, the 23rd of May, I will be on the ESPN2 morning show called Cold Pizza. LIVE from New York City. They will be doing teasers doing hour 1, with me on during hour number 2 with a five minute segment. Disc Golf in general and DGTV will be the basis of the segment. I had a basket shipped to the studio and will be knocking down 15 footers with the anchors while showing some file footage of DG being played.
I will try to get a general email for everyone to bombard telling them how you want to see more DG on ESPN.

I will be meeting with a handful of other ESPN peeps as well.

So please watch or DVR it. 10AM EST to 12pmEST.

Disc Golf is Fun.

That is sweet. Hopefully that will lead to some regular programming. It makes me sick seing pirate ship obstacle course racing and not disc golf on ESPN2.

Shoot me an e-mail when you get that contact info Timmy. Our club database has 250+ e-mail addresses of disc golfers. I'd be more than happy to add it to our monthy e-newsletter.

I see that you locked all the other threads about this...now I am not a big fan of multiple threads on the same topic but in this case i think every forum on this board should have a thread about it. It's ESPN coverage, not selling pull carts. Advertise it like crazy and make sure everybody CAN'T forget.

Great news, congratz to Tim Gill and DGTV!!!

Maybe this will be our "in" to get regular coverage of disc golf on the worldwide leader in sports. Every time I turn on ESPN, I get angry when stuff like the U.S. Paintball Championships are on, and disc golf still is not.

If you feel like helping the sport grow but dont know what to do...go register at that link and make a post!! Its quick and simple with no wait for a confirmation email or anything. Wow bro! This is huge! This a very popular show also. I can't wait to see it. Represent us well in NYC Timmy. You always do! Timmy is probably(imo) the best person to do this for many reasons. He is very engaging and infomative, but also has that X-games kinda look and attitude which is (I think) the direction we are heading. This is one short flight for man, on GIANT leap for Disc Golf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

T_Hizzle
May 19 2006, 12:36 PM
Timmy is a huge promoter of the sport. Look at the list of vendors/sponsers for the MN Majetic. Heck, the local news stations want coverage. He also very unselfish, I am sure everything will be about the sport and how great it is. Everytime he aces in league he declines the money so some AM can win it.

hey timmy.....

super job !!!

if you can and it's appropriate, let the ESPN folks know and invite them to check out the closest National Tour event to NYC. The Skylands Classic at Warwick will be held July 22 & 23 in Warwick, NY just one hour west of Manhattan. We have a major sponsorship with the Brooklyn Brewery.

Maybe they'd want to send a crew or a few folks out our way to check out the sport up close and personal.

If there's any way I can be of assistance, let me know. I'm only a 1-hour drive from the city and could contribute any amount of time if it'll help with the promotion and exposure...

Thanks!!!!!

Ditto what Dan said (except for the part about being one hour away and running a great NT event). Just posted on EXPN's discussion threads. It was easy and felt good to do something potentially crazy positve for the sport. It felt kind of like the first time I voted for the Libertarian candidate. Yes, that good.

Funny you should say that, I voted for Ron Paul in 1988 and have not voted anything other than Libertarian sense.

What is funny about that is that I started playing disc golf in 1988. (april to be exact)

Kinda strainge isn't it.

just got back from watching cold pizza on espn2...

at first i was a little dismayed that they were playing some half-arsed version of chess with lennox lewis (even discussing "chess boxing"-- you don't want to know) before doing the disc golf thing. i then realized that it was probably a little better that they were doing disc golf teasers during all of that nonsense, and not nonsense teasers during disc golf. at least they thought the disc golf stuff might keep people watching.

overall, they shined nice light on the sport. nice job and thanks, timmeh.

It was worth pissing my bosses off to see timmy on the cold pizza.

Now, it's our job to flood espn with emails about disc golf while it's fresh on their minds. even if it's a quick note of appreciation, send cold pizza and espn a note. the more we send, the better our chances of bumping that spelling bee for the worlds or usdgc next year!!!!

"The word is hyzerflip"
"Can you use it in a sentence?"
"My beat roc needs to hyzerflip around the tree for a chance at a duece."

Awesome work Timmy!

I wanted to be a little critical at first, because I thought you could have positioned the sport as one for all ages and both genders first, helping grow the base of the sport and getting more people into the fold. Showing Pro clips is kinda like a circle jerk for all of us here at the PDGA boards - the only thing is, we already know about the sport. You don't have to hook me, I'm already here and a dues paying member (you can be assured, since you can read this message).

However, after a little more thought, I realized this was probably the BEST positioned segment you could have produced for ESPN. You weren't doing a PBS locals-only segment - this was ESPN, the network of more, faster, harder, longer, stronger, NOW! They want the biggest drives, scariest putts, and testorone filled video ONLY! The target demographic of ESPN is quite clear, 18-35 M, and I think you hit a homerun with your presentation.

By the way, I absolutely LOVE DGTV! And my fiance really appreciates the Ladies Lounge segments. More of those would be greatly appreciated, especially teaching-type segments featuring ladies.

Keep up the good work Timmy! Can't wait to see more fresh video at DGTV!

May 24 2006, 09:01 PM
1 thing i did find strange was the teaser's they showed in the leadup to the segment. It was all Tiger Wood's hitting drive's they showed no Disc drive/putt footage in the teaser's.

Overall it was a great spot for the sport. :D:D:cool:

What about putting together a really good production of the Worlds and sending the tape to the different networks and see if you get a bite. for example (besides espn), OLN & Fox Sports, or even the local sports shows on local channels. OLN would have a good chance i think, it looks like they don't have enough outdoor footage to show only outdoor stuff (NHL Playoffs, and IPT pool tournament).
