Not everyone who really wants to be touring full time is doing so. I am curious as to the reasons why these people are not on tour. I have wondered about this for a while and figured, why not ask it now in the middle of all the fun Worlds stuff.
Is it mainly a money issue or are there other things that factor into the decision in a big way? To go on tour full time what would it take personally, financially, etc? What would the amount of money per week be (from savings, winnings, sponsorship, funky flex job you could take on the road with you, etc.) for you to consider taking the leap?

Because not every tournament follows National Tour 101 (http://yeti.zonedriven.com/)!

yes...it is tough to go on long road trips with bad gas. I suggest laying off the double cheese on the pizzas. :p :D

IF you haven't already go to www.disclife.com (http://www.disclife.com) and real Todd Branch's old winnicrew updates. They show both sides of touring full time- lot of great experiences, people, but how much it can cost as well.

...I won the lotto.
Even if you are unlike me and you are a really good player...money money money money money. If you do really well you get to eat ramen and drive to the next event. If you don't do really well you're boiling old wall-paper to make soup and hitch-hiking to the next town.

So, what would you say is the weekly amount of cash required? I'll assume no winnings - use that to treat yourself!
$75 = Gas (500 miles @ 20mpg @ $3/gal)
$210 = Lodging ($30/night at Microtel)
$105 = Food ($15/day - breakfast at Microtel :) )
$50 = Beer
$80 = Tournament entry fees (average)
$520 = Total
If you travel with a partner and cut back on the beer and camp or stay with friends 5 nights a week:
$40 = Gas (500 miles @ 20mpg @ $3/gal)
$30 = Lodging ($30/night at Microtel)
$105 = Food ($15/day - breakfast at Microtel :) )
$10 = Beer
$80 = Tournament entry fees (average)
$265 = Total
Does this sound about right? Of course, there are other miscellaneous expenses like car maintenance and insurance to consider.
Is it fair to say that it is possible to tour with a partner for a minimum of $300 per week = $1200 per month?

You could cut those expenses down a little further if you didn't go to so many tournaments! :D Are we talking about the cost of touring or the cost of being homeless and living in your car? :)

$88 = Gas (500 miles @ 17mpg @ $3/gal)
$70 = Lodging (stay at disc golfers homes/camp/floor space)
$70 = Food/drinks (if you can't eat for less than $10 on average, you are hurting)
$80 = Tournament entry fees (average)
$308 = Total
This is about what it would cost me. I would find places to stay or camp most of the time. $10 average
I don't spend more than $10 per day right now for food, why would I eat more on tour. Drink lots of water and fix your own food a majority of the time, you should have no problem comming in less than $10 per day.
GAS, that is the big equation, it really depends on where the next tournament is. Most of the time it could be closer than 500 miles. (this assuming you are not a weekend warrior)
Also, you can cut the gas bill in 1/2 just by finding someone to ride with you, or ride with them.

$308 a week?
Even in that minimalist setup where you eat ramen each day, don't wash your clothes or change the oil in your car, and sleep in your vehicle.....how do you earn $308 a week playing disc golf?
What is that, like 3rd place at a B-tier? So if Kenny, Barry, Stevie, and Micah show up you go bust that week and don't cover your expenses?
On the plus side, if you are the one guy that wins at the USDGC, you can afford to stay on tour for 35 more weeks without cashing.

****. Please don't ban me Rhett but ya'll are some frugal mutha effer's if ya'll can get by on less than $500 a week.
Maybe at 18 with a paid for vehicle and folks willing to feed you and put you up.
Or just pull the plug on your non disc life.

Dude, I can't imagine getting by on the road for $308 a week, week after week after week.
But just for the sake of argument, I thought I'd go with that low-ball number and wonder aloud whether or not you can even claim that little bit o' scratch touring.
You'd have to finish top-5 every single week to even come close. Doing the math, that means the tour can only support 5-7 guys. Doesn't it?
I just checked. It looks pretty consistent that NTs pay around $300 for about 10th place and A-tier pay aroudn $300 for about 5th place. (There are only a couple of A-tiers that pay $300 for 10th.)
That's a pretty tough order to get to that cheap #$*&$! level of $308 a week. Plus those are NTs and A-tiers so forget about the $80 entry and call it $100-$135, raising your $308 requirement to almost $350.

Add in a cell phone bill at probably around $50/month for a national plan with a decent amount of minutes...
And the expenses of maintaining your home if you own, or choose to tour when your lease is not up... or if you're lucky and can time it between leases, then there's storage costs... and maintaining at least a PO Box for credit card bills and other things that come in the mail...
And you **** well better be single so your "significant other" is not sitting at home feeling they have to support your #$*&$! all the time, or at least be like the Yetis so you both have pretty good odds at cashing every week.

I am planning on going out on tour as soon as I graduate next May. Am I a 1000 rated player? Nope.
Can I be close to that in another year? I hope so
Do I have the means to easily support myself on the road? Yes!
Do I have any responsibilities? Nope.
These combined = See ya on tour!
