Wondering what people think about holding the NorCal-SoCal Challenge in Las Vegas this year instead of Santa Maria.
Please participate in this informal poll and provide any and all feedback.

I don't like the idea of a state region vs state region competition being held out of state. Especially in Vegas which is pretty darn far away from NorCal.
I have not been selected for the team in the past though, so I'm not too sure how much my opinion matters, but there it is anyhow.

I am unsure why you would want to have a California event in Nevada? Is is weather concerns or course neutrality concerns? Either way it seems a long way to travel for both. Perhaps there is a neutral site closer that will be better for weather. Fresno has a nice course, as does Visalia. Lake Casitas would even be somewhat of a neutral course. As much as I like going to Las Vegas, I fear that moving it there would make it harder on both North and South.

Unless California is playing Nevada ?
I personally think, It has to be a Neutral site in California.
I like Hawaii myself if we are going to play out of state.

I think the reasoning behind Las Vegas is that people like to go to Las Vegas.
I believe SoCal is owed two times of hosting the Challenge. We played it at Stockton once, and we played it at DeLaveaga once. We should play it at ElDo and maybe Whittier.
People hate going to Vegas; they don't even go to their Sister's Wedding, if it's there. And nobody knows you.
...anyways, I think SoCal [LaMa's] due a make-up from a few years back...[?]. ....DeLa being used for a So Cal hosting, or something? [!] Probably the 'something' part.

I have not been a SOCAL member for a few years, but SANTA MARIA is one of the more centrally located courses. It will also hold up to the weather conditions better than alot of other places might. THERE IS A NEW COURSE IN SANTA MARIA that might work. PRESKER PARK. On the other hand,a truely "neutral" Central Valley site would be cool. I have represented socal more than once, in the past. Making the location close enough for both teams is the "fair" choice to make. It is unfortunate that some of the people who earn spots on the team sometimes can't make it because of the distance. GO SOCAL!

It is final.
The park has been reserved and the Team Captains have approved the date. The So Cal Am invitations are ready to mail (or could be in the mail). After the Pro Weekend the first wave of invites will be made for So Cal.
We are already ordering player pack items.
Can I see whos on the list of Team SoCal AM?

Maybe SOCAL wouldn't get crushed if SOCAL players didn't show up and play for Norcal! Maybe it doesn't matter who wins because the people who play the challenge are just really stoked to play someone new or just see some cool people they don't get to see enough.

NorCal wins, but had to come back from 4 pts. down after the first day. We ended up winning by 6 points. Then Michael Travers did his Red Aurbach imitation.
Thanks to Dave D. for sponsoring the event with a lotta schwag. Our player package had a dry-fit shirt, Innova hat with logo, *Skeeter, and a mini bottle opener/mini marker.
Also included in the $25 entry was 2 keggers of Firestone double barrel(one each day) and an awesome (as always) tri-tip dinner after the 4th round.
I personally had two epic battles with SoCal captain Mike Byrne. Both ended up in pushes. Rob Harding (putting genius) and I won both of our doubles matches with Mike and Mel(can't believe he's masters age).
2 aces were hit by NorCal. One by J. Michael Barry and one by Satan Himself.
It was cool seeing all of the SoCal players that I'm acquainted with as this event is not only about winning.
NorCal now leads the series 8-2 according to the Water Bucket perpetual trophy (just thought I'd mention it).
The fajitas at La Manana were just OK.

Here is an email from the So Cal Team Captain - Mike Byrne
Team SoCal-The Final Analysis
Hi Team members and friends,
The 10th annual NorCal/SoCal CA Cup Team Challenge has just wrapped up. So, you ask "How did it go?"
Well, I'm here to tell you that it was a lot of fun. The Sunday tri-tip BBQ was great, the players package was the best yet. Levi Wilcox created an excellent tourney logo (thanks Levi) which went onto unreleased Star Skeeters (thanks Dave) and a very nice "dry-fit" sports tee-shirt (thanks Sam). The package also included a very nice embroidered hat and mini-marker bottle opener.
Thanks to everyone at Innova who helped make this players package not only possible, but spectacular!
Since we played through lunch on Saturday we had granola bars and Cliff Bars to keep us going. Also, thanks to Robert Arzate for sponsoring water and vitamin water. And to help wash down the water, Lawrence Halili and Justin Bruner brought a keg of Firestone Ale Saturday, and a keg of Sierra Nevada on Sunday!
The course was beautiful!
The arctic cold made everything especially crisp and clear. Two tees were covered with ice. Two baskets were covered with icicles! But with multiple layers of clothes and hand warmers the conditions were perfect.
So, were the teams competitive? Absolutely!
After the two rounds on Saturday, Team SoCal held a slight lead, 38 to 34.
But alas, NorCal managed a come back. The final score: NorCal-75, SoCal-69.
That final score was heartbreakingly close. If SoCal won just two more of the 36 doubles matches, we would have won. DOH!
But, in the final analysis, we all had a great time.
Happy New Year to all.
Mike Byrne
