THIS IS A SUGGESTION, ALL FEED BACK IS ENCOURAGED...I would like to purpose a competiion leauge for the members of LODGA. This leauge will run for at least 15 weeks counting the playoffs and final "superbowl" if you will. The teams will consist of 2 players each (pick your partner) Each team will be numbered as 1,2,3...thru 10. So we will need 20 players to make this happen. Leauge will start with T1 playing T2, T3 playing T4 etc. then shuffle to T2 playing T3 and so on... Top 6 teams with the best stats at the end go to the playoffs final elemination and then the top 2 play for all the money. $20 a team(that's $200 for the superbowl) Kinda like football/see where I'm going. For $10 your guarrenteed 10 games ($1 a game) and can run for it all. I suggest we start in the spring on a day that dosen't conflicked with our club leauge, and in the spring also due to hard to commit thru the holiday season. We can start in January/make it every Saturday @10-11am or earlier if we want to get 2 games in one day to make it faster. But every team must play at the same time to keep it orginized. I think this would be cool not to mention different than anything we have played before. First 10 games are regular dbls, playoffs are alternating and the superbowl is worse shot. Skins and 51 are always encouraged between the two competing teams but not manditory. Let me know what y'all think- Must be a Live Oak player only. NO visitors or substitutions. (firm) All of this is open for discussion, let's be the first club to do this (that I know of). We have a month to iron out all the details for all to enjoy. No divisions everyone against everybody!
Great idear JB! I do believe though, Pros and Ams would have to be seperated. For the most part I (a forever Am) would enjoy playing a new format, but knowing that our top two Pros are together would not give me (or some of the other Ams) much to shoot for in the end. What about using the final rankings of the 2006 league play to mix and match the teams? Perhaps even going so far as to having a 3 person team? Just a thought...

I think this could be fun...but we need some rules about who can partner with whom...
two top pros together would suck for everyone else. :D

Cool, glad y'all are intrested. I understand as an AM myself. I figured I could handle a 10 team event like this due to I don't know how to run a tourny. I just want to have some fun with this game. I can appriciate we have more AMs then PROS but what is a rookie to do? Please keep the comments coming. I am all for a night @ my place for an open discssion to get this off the ground. I don't expect for our leaders to step up since it's my idea, but a team influence to make it work is all. So what do I do a 5 & 5 team roster? I just think that the Big Bagger and I are gonna take all of y'all foukers. ( if I make his try-outs) Let's keep talkin'.(rookie TD, where's Himing when I need him??)
Perhaps we can talk after the mini at Nani on Dec. 2nd.

i think this would be a cool idea. if you used the last years league standings how would someone like me that couldn't make the league fit in to the fray?

I like the idea. If we were to start in January, it would give those going to world doubles and state doubles a chance to practice. Also, if we could come up with a way to figure handicaps. Since everyone is a Live Oak player, we could take the score that a person would normally shoot on the course we were playing at the time and base it on that. Of course it would take some being honest on everyones part, although we have played with everyone enough to have an idea of what they shoot. Just throwing out some thing to think about. I don't know if it would work, but some of you with more experience and smarts than I can figure it out. I do like the idea of a team league of sorts.
Great idea!!! However, I do agree with....rules. Thought I'd never say that!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I'm in!!! Laura-you down? :)

Chew on this:
Pick your partner. Assign every team a handicap, based on its players:
Pros are worth 4
Adv are worth 2
Recs are worth 0 :D
So, for example:
team A is 2 pros, 4+4=8
team B is 1 Adv and 1 Pro, 2+4=6
team C is 1 Adv and 1 Rec, 2+0=2
When A plays B, then 8-6=2, team B is spotted 2 strokes.
When A plays C, then 8-2=6, team C is spotted 6 strokes.
You can play with the values, if you want. This would allow any team to compete with any other team regardless of skill levels, and without separate divisions.

That sounds fair. So every team will know what their number is and they can do the math with their opponet before they start? OK, but can we get a preliminary head count to see if we can hit 20 people. Also is everyone cool with the $20 a team. Is it also pick your partner or random draw (only once/not each week) with the same handicap formula? Either way I'm down. Winner takes all or top 2? what are y'all thinkin' bout dat? I'll go with the majority, I just want to make it enjoyable for everyone, and keep it as simple as we can.

If you have 10 teams * $20 = $200
How about
1st pays $100
2nd pays $65
3rd pays $35

6 strokes is huge in 18 holes dubs BP. I'd work on those calculations a bit more, or set a cap at 5 strokes (where have I heard that b4?)

Is $20 per team too cheap?
With 10 teams, it will take 9 matches for each team to play every other team. Playing two matches on a Saturday will mean it takes 5 weeks to complete the season. That's a lot of golf for only $10 per player. I'd be willing to pay $20, but that's just me. Chime in on this.
Next question...what happens when the regular season ends? Playoffs! So do the top 4 teams go to the playoffs, with winners to the super bowl? If so, maybe we should be paying only the top 2, because if you go 3 then you have to have a consolation game to decide who's 3rd.
Let's hear some more ideas!

I'm open to whatever everyone thinks is fair. Maybe 3/2/0.
Perhaps the playoffs could be like "March Madness". Every team has a shot; only remove the stroke calculations. They are bonus (free) games anyway. The top 2 seeds getting a by in the first round and play all matches the final Saturday. By some miracle, lowest seeded team T? (lopar & teammate) will play 4 rounds in one day to win it all! just a thought (dream).

It's not about the money, it's about having fun and competing in a different way. I agree 6 strokes is alot to give. If your skeered pick a better patna. Let's go winner takes all, $20 a team, Top 6 go to the playoffs for elimination. 1 match every Saturday @10am. If all else fails make it a pro/am team. then people will find error in that too, i know. Remember teams will lose and each team has every chance to get in the playoffs. No team will run with it. That's the beauty of it, if you don't want a certain team to do well you root against them. Just like your football teams. so what if you lose, I'm a packer fan and we are well used to it. but I still like to watch'em.

Just some ideas...
After the round robin tournament, seed every team accordingly and have a double elimination tourney.
Work backards from World Doubles, have the finals a couple of weeks before WD and have the semifinals and finals out at Circle R, make a day out of it.
Have all of the Round Robin rounds and the first couple of rounds of the tournament at Live Oak.
I don't know the dates of State Doubles or World Doubles, but StD's. was the second weekend of March and WD's was the second weekend of April.
It might be too much for some of us to play every weekend of the month for a couple of months and to travel so much, but these are just ideas for others to run with.
I do like the idea of playing the finals out at Circle R though.
Everybody have a great turkey day.

Chris, you should run this tourney from Australia. Technically, you can: link (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=609757&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1)
You would surely set a record for furthest distance from a tourney for the TD, and could throw something else on your frisbee resume
