I feel we need a discussion (hopefully in an adult manner) about message board rules that are currently not in place so that the powers that be can see what people are requesting.

I have already contacted Steve and Theo about the Private Message issue.

Are the rules for private message the same as for posting? Like for example, If I send a link to a pornographic image to someone of age to view the image over PM, is this considered ok or against the rules?

I also strongly feel that forwarding / posting PM's should be not allowed. The example I presented was if someone bought a disc from me over the board and wanted to wire me the money and I Sent him my checking account info over PM, under the rules now (or lack thier of), this member could forward my account info or post it without being punished and moderators could not technically do anything about it.

Just some thoughts I've had. What are your ideas of rules that need to be added to the message board / removed from the message board and why?

I agree. I've considered blocking PMs to my account in protest which will just reduce member access for responding to questions about ratings, competition and course issues.

I agree that PMs should have the same rules except for the "personal attack" rule. I find that it is less inflammatory if I send what would seem on DISCussion a harsh message to another member by PM instead.

I mean, what if someone stiffed you on a disc sale and you PM'd him to complain about it? on DISCussion your accusation would be a personal attack. So, would the PM get your posting privileges suspended?

Totally agree about reposting or sharing with others the content of PMs: "Private" Messages.

That isn't very bright.

I know I would never send any type of message regarding my personal checking information over PM on this board, but what if someone did?

Under the current rules, this person would not receive any type of punishement for posting / forwarding this information.

I know you are joking Ray, but others might not get the joke.

For the record, the ONLY message board rules are the following: <ul type="square"> 1. No profanity will be tolerated. 2. No personal attacks will be tolerated. 3. No materials or links to materials which are not suitable for a
minor will be tolerated. 4. Any materials deemed offensive by a member will be reviewed on a case by case basis. 5. User accounts are individual accounts intended for the exclusive use of each PDGA member. Allowing someone else to use your account could be grounds for disciplinary action.[/list]

It seems that I am not alone in the issue of the rules of private messages. The checking account example was just that, an example.

we definitely need more rules... i think all pm's should be monitored so that there is no discussion of illegal activities, unpopular opinions, or any use of profanity. im paying for this service, they should do more to protect me and the awful things i say to others through pm that might make me appear as a hypocrite.

i also dont think you should be allowed to forward emails either. ill contact yahoo immediately

we need a rule preventing the creation of a sub-section of this DISCussion Board where non-members might some day be allowed to interact. non-members should be blocked from posting anything anywhere on this site, forever! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

anyone sneaking around those rules and posting a question about the PDGA or disc golf here should be banned for life from ever joining the PDGA :p

When I send PM's that I want to remain private, I put disclaimers on them. THIS IS A PRIVATE MESSAGE, PLEASE DO NOT POST, SHARE OR FORWARD CONTENT TO OTHERS.

If someone then decided to post it, they would be a total loser and not to be trusted EVER!!!

Unfortunately, there are no laws against forwarding personal emails or PM's. It is rude and socially unacceptable, but not generally illegal. I think it would be nice to have an actual message board rule that Private Messages are to remain Private. If someone sent you an objectionable PM, you could notify moderators, who have access to view all PM's.

Since any PM you have ever sent is visible to any administrator/moderator, you should think twice about sending sensitive information. It doesn't matter that you have deleted it, they can still see it. I shudder at the fact that Nick Kight could have been secretly reading my PM's.

Moderators can't read private messages - only Administrators can read private messages, assuming there was a need to do so. So Matt Gillis, Pat Brenner, Conrad Damon, Theo Pozzy, and Steve Ganz could read your private messages; Nick Kight, Terry Calhoun, Rhett Stroh, Alan Sweeton, Steve Dodge or I never could. Hope that makes you feel a little better. :D

Recently we have had some users post a large amount of picture files on tournament threads. Please be aware that while the thought is appreciated, these may greatly bog down loading of pages, even for those with high speed connections. People just looking for relevant tournament information shouldn't have to endure this. For dial-up users, the wait would be intolerable.

A few 800x600 pictures is perfectly fine, but users should use discretion beyond that. They should instead opt to
use thumbnails or a link to a website that can host photos.

Thanks.

Rhett, you're the Admin so go ahead and make the changes if you like. Moderators cannot do anything that relates to board settings - all they can do is edit / delete posts or user sig files or avatars.

I am simply a helper and am not actively Administering or moderating this board. I am currently helping struggling members who are having trouble logging into the board, and I need Admin priviledges to do that effectively.

Again, I am not a moderator and I am not actively acting as an Admin. I would recommend sending all suggestions to for board improvements to the Moderators so that they can relay the requests to the proper authorities. :)

I will be tranferring the Admin flag to one of my other accounts so that I am once again ingnorable by those of you with no common sense. :)

Is there any way to put a link to National Tours on the front page the week that they are going on. Or put a link up at the top of the discussin page where people are advertising. I would like it to be there, call me lazy, but it would save me more clicking.

what in the world do you think it is? on what grounds can you possibly be asking for it to be removed???

further, it is not "what i call it". it is an actual photo of a fermenting dingleberry. i have not interpreted it in any way, shape or form. please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingleberry if you're [sic] issue is the word "dingleberry". the original picture of the fermenting berry is at http://www.skotrat.com/skot/equipment/yeast/DingleBerry_Ferment_03.jpg

The moderators and Communications Director Steve Dodge work on a volunteer basis, so no fees are spent on responding to message board complaints. At this time, we've received no complaints about the avatar in question, at least not through the official channel of using the 'Notify Moderator' button. I can't speak wholly for the other moderators, but I'm pretty sure that a picture of a fermenting berry would not be found offensive. Is there something obviously inappropriate that I am missing?
