Recently on another thread the subject came up regarding whether or not Amateurs ever sold the plastic they won at tournaments. A noted Association mover and shaker was shocked at the possibility that Am's would possibly sell their won plastic for profit. So the question is...

obviously someone is selling stuff on ebay.

I voted no, not because I wouldn't sell my plastic, but because you have to win some before you can sell it. That and it would be too much work. I'm much more likely to donate.

This poll was worded in such a way as to color the responses. A simple choice of Yes or No would suffice. I have never sold my plastic, but it had absolutely nothing to do with the reason you gave for me to choose.
I guess this poll is meant to take another poke at your "favorite" former BOD member. It definitely succeeds in that regard, but will provide meaningless results.

at least he went to the effort to make a poll. no offense discette, but if you think you could word it better, have at it. say what you want about hawk being a trouble maker, but it's not like he isn't bringing light to valid questions albeit in a humorous way which may be over some people's heads.

Okay, I made my reply clearer that it was your - remarkably hurtful for a presumably intended to be humorous - post I was referring to.
Right now, in February 2007, people are getting fired or not hired, based not only on things posted about them, sometimes by themselves, on the Internet.
I don't think the PDGA should be letting people post even sarcastic, untrue, negative statements about others on its website. This is precisely one of the more important reasons why most members, even those who visit, don't post here. It causes a narrowing of the DISCussion.

I do have to agree with Terry and Discette, even the one thread here where the questions asked aren't... biased, starts with a "disclaimer." However, I do think the gist of the topic is useful and important
I know Dr. Evil and Hawk are interested and consider these topics important. I also know that a frank and polite discussion can work miracles in terms of accomplishing things.
Perhaps the sense of humor could be left at home and we could actually consider whether a divisional structure change is a good thing and could be accomplished?

I don't think the PDGA should be letting people post even sarcastic, untrue, negative statements about others on its website.
If the statements are negative and reported to moderators, they will be looked into. As far as untrue statements, enforcing such would require time that paid employees of the PDGA are better spending on more important matters, or a full-time volunteer. Good luck finding such a person to research and ensure that every statement posted on DISCussion is factually accurate.
Until then, the only statements that aren't allowed on DISCussion are those which contain profanity, personal attacks, materials or links to materials which are not suitable for a minor, or offensive material.
You may not like that someone writes that the president has purple hair and lives on a moon made of green cheese, but as our DISCussion Rules are currently set up, it does not violate our Rules. :D

BTW, sarcasm and humor are protected by my first amendment rights, terry. whether you like the humor or not, or whether it makes fun of a person or hits too close to home, i have every right to post it. if you don;t want it open to the publiuc maybe you should have supported outsourcing the IT aspect of the board so we would have the technical expertise to make member only viewable areas.
and lyle, i see you somewhat agree that the gist of the polls hits on relevant topics to the pdga as do others. instead of complaining of the way the poll is phrased YOU SHOULD SPEND THE TIME DOING IT BETTER. i have seen you write pages on the smallest technical details of a post of idea. why not rephrase the poll in a fairer way if you think you can. i await your attempt at greatness!

Actually, this is a private organization. The PDGA is not obligated by the First Amendment to serve of the vehicle for your free speech and this board does not guarantee the right to free speech.
However, let it be known that according to the Rules of DISCussion as we have defined them, the moderators will not seek to stifle free speech so long as they do not contain profanity, personal attacks, materials or links to materials which are not suitable for a minor, or offensive material.

as we have seen hot tub terry can dish it out , but is very sensitive when taking it. he has already complained about my posts and been shot down at least once or twice.now he feels it is his duty to follow me around like a stalker in case i may offend someone else so he can complain.
i will continue to make fun of him as needed to keep his 200$/hour ego in check and if i push it too far i'm sure you guys will let me know. I will try to not make your job harder by not posting profanity, personal attacks, materials or links to materials which are not suitable for a minor, or offensive material.

You are correct, and I admit I didn't set it up initially because I didn't want to go through the learning curve. Once it was there I didn't do it because I didn't want to recreate the poll, thus being confusing.

Actually, Terry deals with criticism quite well. There are two ways to deal with it. You can defend yourself by replying, something that Terry, I, and you all do, or you can go running to the Moderator and whine to have the post removed. Something that some other posters do. BTW - I don't equate third party complaints about offensive posts the same as I do recipient whining...
Defending yourself is not bad, it's an art, some do it like Tanya Harding, and some do it like Picasso. Each has merit.
As for Terry following you around Wow! He must not have much of a life...
As for Terry's ego, I've met egos, his is pretty mild. One of the best was a Nobelauriate wannabe at Baylor College of Medicine. In the urinal, he would pee on the wall. We speculated about this for some time, vision, distraction, hand eye coordination... we finally concluded, arrogance, he was marking his territory. :D
There was another one, a guy at MIT, Tonigaua. When he got hired he laid down the Champaign in his cold room, for when he won his Nobel. Of course he did deliver. Would that be considered arrogant, or prescient?

All joking aside, I did not mean to be as harsh as it seems my post came across. Rather, I'd like to figure out a way that we could help to achieve something that we all seem to agree needs to be done. If getting buy in from Discette and Terry requires toning down my sense of humor, a pretty obnoxious one by most standards, then I'm going to do it (or at least try to).

well, after hot tub's burning defense of discette( who i believe can stand up for herself), she PM'd me to find out what i had posted. i told her and she was dissapointed because she thought she had missed something really bad! :D
further to that i really think she is on board with the whole ratings based thing after a few emails, even going so far as to point out she didn't mind even playing with men in the same ratings window as herself.
not positive how she feels about ams selling plastic, but i think that goes along with the whole divisonal reform thing anyway.

Good question, not to my knowledge, how's that for political. If I have, I was stupid, if you can dish it out, no matter what the form, you should be able to take it.
BTW - If I have asked for a review, it would have been in one of two forms, directly on the MB, or in a fit of pique at having one of my own reviewed by a moderator.
Either way, I should have shut up and taken it. As Mr... excuse me, Dr. Evil points out, if you can dish it out, you can take it.

Nice to see the thread got back on track!
I'm surprised to see that there's even 1% of responses saying they don't sell there plastic. Isn't that the point of the PDGA's current tournament and rating structure....AM for life. Until we solve the disc golf community's addiction to plastic (not to mention plastic is generally the only way a TD makes money on a tourney), we will continue to see player's play for plastic, then resell it at a weekly cash mini. I know several individuals who supplement their income by doing this.
I still think we need to eliminate about 70% of the current tournaments we have now....Make the remaining 30% of tournaments of the highest quality, offering every division (because if you have less tournies, you have a higher participation level from rec to open). I don't believe you need more tournaments to "grow the sport"....you need legitimacy (ie what mainstream America thinks)...something organized disc golf is sorely lacking.

for the record, technically i have probably sold a few discs either in my 5$ bin or privately if they are a kind i don't use. at my events i usually only give out vouchers to be used to pick what you want. since people get discs they can use they are less likely to sell them i think.
