I was about to post that... figured somebody beat me to it...

Irony, or foreshadowing? I don't remember too much of my Shakespeare....

The Headline/subject line from the "PDGA Announcements" section reads "IDGC Dedication - 4/20/07".

And the flyer in the announcement shows the 20th as being the date. I noticed this also, but didn't want to seem to be piling on. This attention to detail though is encouraging in the person determining our competitive lives.

The IDGC dedication was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 21st but was recently changed to Friday, April 20th at the request of Columbia County officials. The building dedication and ribbon cutting ceremonies will begin at 10:00am, just prior to the first round tee times, which start at 11:00am.

somehow i doubt the date was the result of some devious master plan. it just happened that way. should we all stop breathing twice a day to protest when the big hand and the little hand are both kinda around the 4?

In other words. grow up people. The 20th of April comes once a year, and things will get scheduled on it. If your maturity level is beyond that of a typical high school freshman, you won't be giggling to yourself and whispering 'he said 420'.

I never heard the reference until about 10 years ago (would have been near 40). It was never in the slang of the college dorms back in the late 70s to early 80s (at least not in Wisconsin). And trust me, there was much more going on there than any disc golf course I've been on.

Now, unfortunately, it seems to be a cute thing to write on picnic tables and benches regardless if there is a disc golf course in the vicinity or not.

Trust me Tim, I do not think that its cute. ;)

Honestly, the reason why I think that it is such a big deal is that I came to a realization this weekend. That is the fact that the sport that we love is ruled by potheads. I look at the high % of top level pros that I know personally are smokers. The same rings true for the majority of promoters that I know .

And now the National Disc Golf Center is have its grand opening on 420!

Give me a break, my viewpoint is not childish or naieve. Yours is Tim.

It only becomes an issue IF you make it one.

As stated...The County Parks Dept. ASKED for the date change...end of story...I doubt they care that its 4/20...it better fit THIER schedule NOT the PDGA's..

It wouldnt suprise me if there had actually been a discussion about NOT having on that date when it was originally planned. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Now if a "Typical" discGolf crowd shows up and behaves in a manner "similar" to a Tournament on 4/20 and does not take into account that such actions could be detrimental to the sport in the HIGHEST /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif manner.........
then I guess WE ARE just a "bunch of frisbee throwing hippies" :(

my sobriety date happens to be 4/20. never even realized it until years later. doh!

but to think that there is some nefarious reason they chose 4/20 other than it being an open date on the schedule is ludicrous. even to a conspiracy nut like me.

we have much bigger fish to fry here people. while the drug is important to deal with. it has absoloutely nothing to do with the idgc.

is 4/20 some kind of decriminalize marijuana use day?

Unless you think alcohol should be illegal, the date coincidence is a non-issue. i support sane drug laws and drug-free PDGA events. Doesn't everyone realize it is counter-productive to make marijuana illegal if you want to limit and regulate its use? it is far less toxic to the human body than is alcohol...

disclaimer: i haven't smoked pot for more that 15 years, although my memory may not be the best ... [email protected], what was i saying?

okay, just googled 420 and wikipedia says it all here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_(cannabis_culture))

no mention of disc golf ... maybe it would be better if it did mention us, sort of like: some people associate disc golf with 420, but the the PDGA (http://www.pdga.com) disallows cannabis use (as well as alcohol and other drug use) during its events, and no PDGA event we know of begins its round at 4:20. :D

okay back to an excellent event and facility (the IDGC)

translation:
columbia county official #1(CCO#1):saturday is our day off and they want us to do a dedication.
CCO #2: hey, i know, if we get them to switch it to friday morning we can get paid to do the dedication AND get a free lunch maybe out of it too.
CCO #1: that's why i love you man...always thinking of getting the free meal :D

it may not of gone like that but trust me after dealing with county, city, and state parks people and commissioners for the last 10 years, i can bet it was pretty damned close to that...
i lost many hours of pay to talk to them, give them free stuff, give them plaques of appreciation, etc...

they almost ALWAYS had something going on saturdays that kept them from doing anything on those days

but it was all still worth it for the disc golf courses and improvements i got in return, sorta like 1/2 millon dollars worth of building and pavilions for just dedicating it on 4/20/07 instead of 1 day later :D
