What thoughts does anyone have on the topic of driving ranges?
How long is long enough?
How wide should the range be?
Where should the distance markers go (middle, sides)?
How much length should be between the distance markers?
Would you ever use one if it was in the same park as a course?

I like the idea....Make it long enough for the "Big Arms" you wouldn't want a pro to show up and have to lay off his or her throw because the range cant accomidate.
How would you handle disc retrieval? Are you going to have a bucket/bag full of discs ;) And a tractor to drive out and pick them up?
I think distance markers every 50 or 100 feet.
Have some type of visual target, if not a basket on the range at various distances. Maybe even a few LARGE trees to practice hysering around. :)

Although the concept sounds good, in practice, we've found at Highbridge that very few want to run after their personal discs. It's not like a ball golf range where you could throw range discs. Even if we had a place that had range discs, would you want to throw plastic you wouldn't use in competition? If I could test new discs from a manufacturer, that might be a reason, but that type of place hasn't popped up yet.
I think having a throwing area with good tees and catching nets 40-50 feet away with markings on them makes much more sense. We had a net like that to throw at on the Nockamixon course at PW2005 that worked well for warmups.

much better to warm up playing catch with your favorite broken-in midrange between 150-180 ft. apart. throw slow 'n' smooth. stretch in between throws. warm-up your visualization and touch as well as your body. throw different shapes shots and get the disc to land softly in your partners hands.
or just empty your bag by blasting wildly across an open field and blow up your arm.
