Please come to Bart Saturday morning on April 14 to help with much needed clean-up of the creek running through the park. You may register for the clean-up at the site below and get a free tee-shirt.
If anyone wants to run a mini or something that day as well, please feel free. I'd be happy to help. I think the clean-up should be done around 1:00 or so.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Okay, I'll make a deal to show up if the city agrees to put the four missing baskets back in the ground. They haven't done any work to that park in months (probably b/c its not in the nicest part of town...but that's another story) yet those four baskets are still missing. I agree it needs to be cleaned up and it's going to take a large contingent of people to make a difference...it's just hard to think I'm cleaning up a park the City of Austin doesn't care about b/c it's in a less economically affluent area. And the worst part is that Bart is a great layout with a number of challenging shots.

I share your frustration. I just learned today that restoration of the park is scheduled to happen by June of this year. Of course, I'm sure you know these types of due dates are hardly ever met.
I guess we can be happy there's a plan.
Spread the word and show up on April 14. Bug the city about fixing things if you want as well.
I'll tell ya, the thing I am learning about creek clean-ups is that the reason more affluent areas are clean is because of the abundance of citizen volunteers.
In the future, Waterloo (perhaps in conjunction with others) may want to " Adopt-A-Creek (http://www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/page.php?p_page_child_id=181) ."
Adoption only requires four clean-ups per year. Why not do it and do it in conjunction with some kind of mini or charity event?
ps. I still need to join Waterloo

"restoration of the park"? You mean pulling the course?
As I have told you a hundred times, the trash at Bart is carried down by upstream development, and the next rain will simply wash down new trash. Again and again and again. Do we clean up the trash as it lies in a parking lot, or do we wait for it to be stuck five feet in vegetation and spread over 2,000 feet of shoreline?
Now if this was Barton Creek or Shoal or Waller, all the trash depositories would be taken care of; but as Jon points out, this is East Austin and the City doesn't care about Bart, unless of course you cut off part of a precious branch or something. :p

McCaine, McCaine, McCaine... I figured you'd keep your "can't do" attitude to yourself.
"Playing the trash as it lies" is always much better, and if you have any specific suggestions on how to take care of things upstream that would be easier, I'd welcome them; and, I'd be happy to call the city to discuss them myself.
If there's no practical option to handle the trash coming from Highland Mall and elsewhere, I think the best solution is to do regular clean ups.
Since you brought it up--- As far as closing the course goes, I think it's much more likely to be closed if disc golfers don't show interest in the course, both in terms of playing it and maintaining it. This is especially true with the gentrification soon to be taking place across the street.
Lastly, I wouldn't be so quick to say the City doesn't care about East Austin. Give Mike Martinez (http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/council/martinez.htm) (City Council) a call if you want to talk about that. If a wheel squeaks on a message board, does anyone hear it?

I was born and breed at BART........And IMO they need to pull it!
trash will always be a problem
East Austin will never have the money to lobby involvement for the whole of Austin.
The baskets are not even owned by the city!
The course zig zags in and out of areas used by non disc golf park users.
A large number of golfer cars have been broke into.....if the baskets were goats they would have all be stole by now.
Them baskets would better serve another park.
Sorry but them the facts and them ain't changin :(

Vinnie, Vinnie, Vinnie, Shut your freaking donkey. Bart doesn't need to be pulled; and is not a dangerous place at all. Prior to the construction, it was a sweet course. This a pick-up-trash thread, not a rag on Bart thread. By the way, the weekend y'all are putting boxes in is Nac, isn't it? If so, I won't be there and am telling you in advance. My balls feel bigger already. :D
