Word from Live Oak, the annual Civilian/Military tournament will be held October 6th. This is tentative (should there be another tournament out there, of course). More information will follow throughout the summer. For you first timers, this is an awesome way to give your time/skills for our service men and women and have fun as well.

Met with the city today and everything is a go! For those new to this event; everything is 100% hosted for military personnel (E-6 and below) and area disc golfers (playing and coaching). All military personnel will receive free driver and putter (still looking into a mid range as well) and instructions on the game of disc golf. Each participant will receive a free lunch, t-shirt, hat, door prize ticket and other goody bag items.

Just like last year, I will be signing up the discgolfers on the discussion board and in person at some of the minis.

Last year there were 75 new military players and 51 golfers. I expect there will be just as many if not more this year. If there are more golfers than military, then there will be a cutoff line.

Thanks

Aug 27 2007, 11:47 PM
Sorry Sue, no raffle.
Because this is a "free" tournament, and sponsored by the businesses of the Greater Randolph Chamber of Commerce, door prizes will be given to all that play (military & discgolfers). Any prize(s) you provide would be added to the military personnel. Let me know how you would like your gift(s) to be handed out (i.e., low score men or women, ace/ace run men or women, etc...)
The prize/award for the discgolfers is the opportunity to teach our game to the military and to say thank you.

Thanks again Suemac!!!

Just met with the city and WOW! A BIG change has occured. The signature hole for live oak has been shortened due to the continuation of discs and golfers going over fences. Not to worry, though, it will still be an interesting challenge to most of us. Bad news: Ft. Sam has backed out so I have devised a new format for all to play, teach and have fun. See you Saturday!

opereida
Oct 04 2007, 10:30 PM
Which one is the "signature hole"?

Joe
Oct 04 2007, 11:34 PM
#24. I would like everyone's professional opinion after we play as to whether it needs to be moved or not.

jocur
Oct 05 2007, 01:06 PM
I have NEVER seen anyone crush it over the fence from the box. I'm sure it's possible, just not probable... My roller could make it, but that's another story. :D

Joe
Oct 05 2007, 01:25 PM
We will just have to take it in stride. 11a, 11b and I believe 15b will need to be altered for the college construction as well. But the college is supposed to install 18 baskets on their campus

mistuhmiles
Oct 05 2007, 01:49 PM
i played the new #24 right after they put it in. if the mando is still in play it is a very technical shot. if no mando it is a big spike hyzer over the trees. i put my 1st hyzer about 30' to the right. the 2nd was short and had to putt from about 40' down the hill and under a tree. i think the change is a good one.

Joe
Oct 05 2007, 02:52 PM

Neither have I. That is a long throw and just can't see many people throwing over that fence. I could try all day and and I don't think I could make one over there.

Joe
Oct 05 2007, 03:59 PM
It is not just those few with "gorilla" arms that can throw from the tee box, but those that would use the channel to warm up in before our past tournaments that were based at the clubhouse. A couple of years ago, I was ripped by a citizen a few times for not policing the situation better.

mistuhmiles

1. Mike Dustyn & Ernie 57
2. Larry Orlando & Bagger Lively 63
3. Juan Shawn & Joe P. 64
4. Justin Stacey & Calvin 65
5. Patrick Rick & Chris 66
6. Steven Ray & Dave 67

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but due to the lack of commitment from the area bases, the city of live oak is postponing the civ/mil tournament indefinitely. When we started this, the ratio was at least 1:4 (dg:mil). The past few years it has nearly reversed. However, with the new Mayor, new formats/ideas are being tossed around.

For everyone who has commited to this tournament in the past, the city of live oak thanks you for your support.
