Anybody know what the layout is? Any new or old super tees going to be used?

How many holes? The entry form says 95 players max, which is 19 holes times 5-somes. But the PDGA on-line Schedule pre-reg list shows 96 people entered, which could be 24 holes times 4-somes. Anybody know if the Snyder Hill temp holes will be be used?

TIA.

Hey Rhett ,

Just talked with Snapper about the Course Layout for the Spring Fling this Saturday. Here is what I know for sure.

First round will be 19 holes and the 2nd round will be 17 holes.

The holes will change for the 2nd round. Slightly.

No Additional Holes Across Pershing Drive or Jacaranda Street this year.

For the 2nd round , Hole # 1 to medium Hole # 2 , through the tunnel /mandatory , then Hole # 3 to Long Hole # 4 . The rest will be regular Morley.

If you have a chance to play before Saturday , the current layout is set up now for the First round.

Good Luck and Play Well ,

Will baskets move in between round 1 and 2?

What time is doubles on Friday? I expect a record turnout! :D

Hey Allen ,

I think doubles will still be happening on Friday at 5:00 pm.

Yes , the baskets will move after the 1st round , probably during the Lunch break. The Mandatory arrows will also be added on the tunnel shot on Hole # 1 to Medium Hole # 2.

The Pyramid holes are as follows : 1st round , Hole # 15 only.

2nd round , Hole # 5 only.

Snapper has the current list of all the holes and hole changes between rounds.

I'll be out at Morley most of this week !!!!!

Well, I certainly hope they move during the lunch break, rather then during the 2nd round. That would make for some tough putting!!! ;)

All right, moving targets... :D :D

Allen, I should be there for Friday doubles. It starts at 5:00 SHARP, so sign up at least 15 minutes early. There are 5 pins in unusual locations for the first round. 3, 9, 10, 12, & 13. There not totally different, but not standard locations. :p

Ya beat me to that one, Rhett.

My guesses:

3: in the bushes by right side of the ditch at the bottom of the hill.

9: Not too many different spots except maybe that one at the back edge of the first line of trees kind of too the right.

10: no clue. Unless "deep" is considered unusual.

12: the only unusual one I can think of is the deep deep left left position back by the fence.

13: ??? only unusual one is the "way right" position, which I wouldn't think plays well with 12 if it's in the deep deep left left spot.

:D

Those sound like good guesses. I had forgotten about that #3 location.

#1 is in the middle right position (Roller shot or sidearm)
#2 is in the deep middle position across the road
#3 is in the deep right position under the trees and bushes (Double Mandy off the tee)
#4 is middle right, visible from tee pad
#5 is long left
#6 is long right
#7 is medium right
#8 is middle pin position
#9 is the long left position half way up the hill
#10 is the long position on top of the hill
#11 is short right (ace run)
#12 is the long right position
#13 is the left most position down the right track
#14 is deep left by the evergreen tree
#15 is on the mound
#16 is short middle (ace run)
#17 is long left, new position behind the left spider tree
#18 is in front of the pepper tree
#19 is middle shot, just beyond the tree line.

At least that is how it was set up last night.

Thanks for the great detail, Richard!!

Couple of questions:

#3 - What is the double mandy? Tunnel shot (low right) or high/left?

Did you do this from memory?

The double mandy for three is usually there when two is in the middle position across the dirt road, to keep the players on three from driving into the heads of people putting on two. :)

Are we playing any long tee pads like 8, 9, and 17, and off in the weeds on 14?

Good description Richard.
# 9 is rarely this deep and I don't think I've ever seen it in the left deep position.
#10 is next to 10a (right & deep on the hill), but a little bit deeper and a closer to the edge.
I like #13 because you can either take the right gap and fade left or take the left gap and fade right.
I saw Kevin Kellie hit his first Morley ace (second ever) on hole 16 on Wednesday (not doubles). It was a sweet sidearm shot that even I can appreciate. :) :) :)

I just called Snapper. We are NOT using any long pads. :D Phew

The double Mandy is because of Hole #2 as Rhett indicated (low, right). Yeap all from memory, from a single round.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday! Don't forget your SDA shirts!

I played 15 for the first time up on the mound. It was okay. Better than I expected. :) I'll probably change my mind the first time I hit the mound with a tee shot and bounce 5 feet into the OB....

3 in the ditch position is kind of a crap shoot with the mandy. I usually throw the roller to that position, but a long righty turn-over can also get a skillful deuce. With the mandy it seems like only a lucky deuce is possible if you can crash the protecting trees and get a lucky bounce to have a look. I don't really see a skillful route to land with a look at the basket. Maybe a big lefty or forehand corkscrew S-shot.

The course looks good lots of new mulch and new dirt spread about. Where did the new dirt on 13 past the pad and 15 near the basket come from? That surprised me to see new dirt imported. It's cool, but I've never seen that at morley before. :)

A roller, hyzer flip or sidearm can all get you within putting range for a well deserved birdie. The putt would be from the left of the basket, by the ditch and is wide open!

I agree this isn't an easy deuce, but it is possible with a skillful well placed drive.

Hmmmmmmm....hyzer flip, you say? I wonder if someone with a 150-gram gummy Sidewinder might try that?

As for the new dirt - did you also notice the new foliage planted here and there? There are quite a few new bird of paradises (or is it birds of paradise?) and fig trees planted around the course. It's looking pretty good!

I think a 150 gram sidewinder would do the trick! Hit the gap, let it level and coast all the way down the hill. My disc of choice is a 164 Spectra for hole 3 in that position.
