All I have to say is Cam and Lesli were the nicest coolest touring pros to hang out with. they hung out with anyone the night before or after the tourney. They were there to play some golf.

What exactly did this guy do that caused him to be suspended from the PDGA? It seems that alot of people here lift this guy up as a martyr.
Read the thread posted earlier, basicly he was not happy about something at the tournament and yelled his grevance at the TD. This was at an A-tier event.
Trust me, the Angry Clown needed to go. He might have been a cool guy to "hang out with" and I did see him do nice things with other golfers, but my one round with him he came off as a major jerk and I did see something happen between rounds that should have had him DQd at the tournament. (the rule has changed, and this we before I started turning players in. BTW he won that event, even after the way he acted in the first round)

After reading the thread it seems to me that Cam Todd, while having legitimate reasons to criticize, obviously went about it in the wrong way. The PDGA sets clear guidlines on what qualifies suspension, and since Cam Todd was never provoked the PDGA was right in their decision. But I can somewhat sympathize with Cam Todd because I am having legitimate gripes at work with the extended hours we're taking, and I finally lost it and went off on one of my managers. Even though I explained the situation, telling them how stressful it was working and going to school full time, and even apologizing to my manager before the meeting they still gave me 6 months corrective action. But I took responsibility for my actions, and am working on a better attitude. Cam Todd, while right in his complaints, vented his frustration in the incorrect manner unbecoming of not only a pro disc golfer, but a human being in general and needed to take responsibility for his actions.

Crooked Stick is a country club in Indianapolis, IN...John Daly won a major there, PGA Championship I believe(?).
Is there another Crooked Stick golf course in NC?
There is 'Wicked Stick' in Myrtle Beach, SC; a John Daly designed course (perhaps in honor of his achievement in Indiana)
I've played that! It's a links style course that he desigined in honor or him winning the british open.
The grass and everything is like it is in Britian - really cool (and long) course

his choice to quit tournament play.
terrycalhoun
Apr 12 2007, 05:36 PM
He was given a suspension and appealed. Recognizing that the suspension would keep him out of the USDGC and other year-end events, he was offered a compromise: No suspension, just probation, *if* he would donate his next winnings at a PDGA major to a charitable organization. He did well at the USDGC, made the contribution, and then decided not to compete any more. He was not suspended or kicked out.
I personally wish that he was still competing in disc golf, but I am guessing that he is pretty happy doing whatever he is doing, or he'd be back.

Mr. "Dad" Loper here.................simply to say "thank you" fellow disc golfer's for having the patience, and I hope some enjoyment with my son Jacob in his posts !
I have to admit, I too have much fun reading Jacobs posts....and no doubt shake my head! Ha.
I also admit I have wonderful laughs at the responses he seems to generate! LOL. (Especially the one word story.....posts!)
This seems to bring much joy to all involved.
This PDGA discussion board has been a "great" influence to my son Jacob. What he has learned from all of you.....my brother and sister's of Disc Golf..........has really fired Jacob up! He is far more educated than I personally could have done in the years to come. He has gleaned from you "valuable" disc golf insights in such a short time of 1 year.....than I have had in the 5 years I have been playing!
This board is a resource for all our family..............and I THANK YOU ALL!
He is a dear son, a clever disc golf player, knowledgeable of disc types and characteristics, and plays well under pressure on the course, and in practice. I know this doesn't happen without such resources as this board and YOU the players helping educate Jacob on EVEN the simple or mundane questions he has asked.
I am grateful to you and PDGA for this outlet, and inlet into this disc golf family!
I envy Jacob, for being able to chat with Schweb, VJenkins, and other Pro's.........at 12 and coming away with a sense that Disc Golf is bigger than us all! That the community of Disc Golfer's really care for the new generation of young kids enthusiastic about EVERY aspect of the game.
I certainly can't keep up with his hunger for disc golf..........all ALONE! LOL. (Besides not being the know it all dad)
Jacob is also maturing much from your advice in these forums, and we should see some improvements in "spelling" (arrrrggghhh) and relevance.
I humbly Thank each and every one of you for adding to our familys disc golf experience!

Now for the Cam Todd part. Yes he was the best putter the sport has ever known and quite possibly one of the best competitors. It's a shame that many remember him most for his tirades. And yet in another sport he would be cheered for his antics. ex. Tiger Woods, Tony Stewart, Kobe Bryant, The whole Detroit pistons team from the late 80's etc.. None of them are models of sportsmanship but they are loved by many.
For everything that has ever been said bad about the guy I have some fond memories. Cam along with Leslie and Worm volunteered for a few years at a kids clinic we ran here in Charlotte. He did this without ever having to be asked twice. These kids and thier parents couldn't stop praising the 3 of them for all the help they provided.
Second memory would be of his last USDGC. Already on probation from the PDGA and having his winnings from the event going to charity he could have taken the easy way out and not really tried to compete. But he played lights out, finished 2nd and bowed out of the sport graciously.
There's always 2 sides to a coin.

I wish he was still around. He is the one who got me into playing seriously. He talked to me about putting, and then when I saw him play.....his passion inspired me. Even if he's not still playing, he is the player I will always strive to be. You can't look at the man for 1 or 2 isolated incidents, look at his whole career. He was a great, humble guy with skills outta this world and sometimes his passion for competing got the best of him. This happens all the time in the other "professional" sports without the criticism that Cam received. I hope to someday see him back on the courses and touring.

So is this dude ever gonna play again???
I'd guess that depends on if he decides he can enjoy tournament play. No matter how good he is/was, I don't see anything other than that that could bring him back to the game. I know a few people that are good that have stopped playing tournaments because they've lost the joy of it. If I ever stop enjoying them, I'll stop playing them. People (in this (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=675537&an=0&page=0#Post6 75537) thread, I do believe) have said he still plays, so he still at least enjoys the game, and having 'old pros' out on courses might inspire a young player to take their game to the next level and become a 'new pro'.

I didn't know him from before or anything but he seemed like a cool dude to me. he kinda leaps off the teepad like he is doing a long jump too, I bet he jumps 10-15 feet off the front of the teepad as a part of his follow-through when he throws big.

He has been battleing a knee injury a lot this year and hasn't played a single PDGA event.
I've played a few casual rounds with him and he also came out to our local doubles when the ace pool got really big. Walt was the same old Walt Haney - smooth accurate and very fun to play with.
He actually was going to play my summer tournament, but didn't sign up in time for it and chose to be on the waitlist. He still came out for the event and did a bunch of video and photography work, which seems to be his passion in disc golf now.
Walt is about as nice of a guy as I know and if I were to ever make a "dream" foursome, there is no doubt he would be in it.

Wonder if the DJ Cam Todd techno mix CD has gone up in value. He's good at anything he tries. I know a few people like that. ;)

thats what i was thinking... have heard he just played Nest the other day and "shredded it"
said this a long while back the first time someone rumored that Cam was coming out of retirement but it will be interesting to see what he's throwing and if he takes a sponsorship or not. have heard he's throwing a mixed bag but haven't heard if he's been throwing the 'latest and greatest' or keeping it 'old school'

Mitch, don't get upset, nobody can putt as good as him. Seriously though, if you and the PDGA can support someone who is involved in a national uproar about racism, why not support someone who actually took ownership for himself and walked away for his needs, and who also donated $4,000 to a Leukemia society when the original punishment was to not get paid at all and it went back into the payout or pocket of another group, and still had the integrity to give it his all, finishing second in the toughest and most significant of all disc golf events. Don't forget that in your assessment of him.

This was a free clinic he was a part of in Charlotte for a large group of disadvantaged children.
Maybe if people provided a little more openness and acceptance, be more supportive of the positive aspects and growth he can bring to the professional level of skill and competition, an outcome that benefits all can be achieved.
Remember, other people involved in competition play have done just as bad, if not much worse things. Cheating, pencil whipping after dropping down a few cards, theft of monies from tournaments, cutting of trees in the evening after tanking a shot during the rounds, kicking over a peaceful monument during a worlds in front of a pretty large spectator group, and so on.
Give it a break everyone, support growth, change, and one of the most talented individuals that has ever played the sport.

Sorry your right...every sport needs a "Bad" guy out there to get the press interested...I hope he plays on the same card with Nikko soon...that could be explosive...cwphish are you and Cam offically dating now?
I would much rather support the players that have been out there on tour year after year, doing free clinics all over the nation...promoting the sport through EDGE...and not throwing a 20 f-bomb fit when things don't go their way...

Cam ended up in second behind Schwebby - had the hot round of 45 this morning - probably going to be in the 1040 - 1050 range.
His throw and putt looked exactly like it always did.
I told him it was good to see him and he said he was glad to be playing again. I said something along the lines of asking him what made him come back. He said....
"To give people on the internet something to talk about."
Line of the weekend, for sure.

What a burn! Ha Ha, me date Cam, that was brilliant! As brilliant as a 900 rated player whining like he actually got to play with Cam at some point, and his game was affected. Mitch, you may want to assess the personal skills. Well, if he wants to date, I'm going to hold out till USDGC when he has some added cash put into his pocket, and hope for the best and that he will pay for the date! Wish me luck Angry Jealous Mitch-E-Poo!
