We are having lots of users swearing on the board as of late. Almost all of them have been thanks to creative ways to bypass the censor.
An example of this would be spacing in the word or using the $ sign instead of the letter S.
Please note that even if you bypass the censor, this is still breaking the rules and subject to punishment!
If you see a post with this or any other rule violations, please notify a moderator.

When I was a kid, television was called books and movies were black and white. :D
The book is The Princes Bride by L. Morganstein. I admit, I've never read it, but it did promote this movie. Now, I rarely watch T.V. and feel it is, for the most part, a waste of time; as are most movies. But, if I were going to waste time watching a movie, this one would be it. It is classic male humor in the three stooges line without the physical mayhem, or most of the physical mayhem anyway. It is cheese at its best. Most of the quotes are only good here, but great in context. Even the setting for how the director portrays the story as a written work is funny. Yes, the director pays homage to the fact that it is a book and not just a trite movie.
Inigo Montoya: Who are you?
Westley: No one of consequence.
Inigo Montoya: I must know...
Westley: Get used to disappointment.
Inigo Montoya: 'kay.
BTW - in general, I'd rather read also, nonetheless, this movie rates a 10 in the falling out of your chair holding your sides category. Even sworn enemies can enjoy it together.
Lyle O Ross
Aug 20 2007, 01:55 PM
BTW - though I've not read the book, I've read enough to know that those who have say it is different and better than the movie, more detail about the characters etc. I may be making a trip to the library this weekend.

Not from Australia, nor am I related to the Dread Pirate Westley.
I'm just really, really old. I can still remember my maternal grandfather's first television set in the family. It was about 5' high, 4' wide, and had a screen about 4' off the ground that was maybe 8" wide. Black and white only, of course.
In fact, I was on ~20 nationally-broadcast television shows in the mid-to-late-1950s, black and white, of course. And it wasn't sword play, but acrobatics. And, then, when I was about eleven (12) years old. And when I was strong enough, I dedicated my life to avoiding television; from both sides.

I didn't learn to avoid T.V. until I hit my 30s. It's awful what it does to people. I can tell nights when I've allowed my oldest (4 years old) to watch DVDs. Those nights are much harder than others. He doesn't even watch T.V., and I can only imaging what that would be like.
Not to wander from PB, but what I read about 24 just plain scares me. The idea that this guy goes around torturing and killing people and thus "obtaining" good intelligence just appalls me.
Terry, make an exception for the rest of us so we can admit you to the club. Look at it this way. If someone as sharp as Lowe is can appreciate this...
BTW - I'm not as old as Terry but I remember black and white and I also remember no cable, a vice I never took up. Even when I watched T.V., I had gone almost completely over to the dark side - PBS.

Mods,
Since it would be difficult to post the accuser's name along with the poster being accused, is it possible to have someone do a review of the list of posts being reported as objectional and see if maybe there is one or two problem reporters? You know those who just scan the board looking for infractions, the MB vigilante police. While I agree we need to be able to report posters who cross the line, maybe there are some who are a little too quick to report. If a pattern is noticed, maybe it can be curtailed without bringing down the whole DISCussion Board.

We have looked at this and it is not an issue. I can tell you that with almost no exceptions, we don't have an excess of overly sensitive or frivolous notifications to the moderators of Rules violations. Posts that are reported come from many different sources and are usually bonafide rules violations, or borderline rules violations. It's not like there's one message board user out there who mindlessly clicks on the 'Notify Moderator' button all week long. In fact, doing so would be abuse of the Notify Moderator button as is prominently displayed in line item #6 of our PDGA Discussion Board Rules (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/boardrules.php?Cat=0), and grounds for probation.

I'm the accuser. What you did is there in black and white. [Or black and blue on my message board settings.] How is it relevant who I am unless you just want to engage in some kind of inappropriate retaliation? What you did is the same no matter who I am.
Anytime anyone personally attacks anyone I regard as a valuable PDGA volunteer, I am the accuser. I was put on probation for saying, "10 or 20 IQ points?" in response to someone's question, "What am I missing here?" So that's my standard. You attack a PDGA volunteer any more vigorously than that, I'll forward your post to a moderator and remind them of what I got put on probation for.
I really don't care one way or the other about cleverly disguised curse w-rds and nakeditity and references to illegal drugs. If you get on probation for that, someone else turned you in. If you get on probation for attacking a PDGA volunteer, it was me.
Every time.
So don't do that.

Well, excuse me. Seems a little overly vindictive if you ask me. I was just curious if there maybe was anyone possibly having an issue with sore toes and it seems I've found out.

I'm begging the PDGA powers that be to end Mikey's suspension early so he'll spend less time on the SN forum! :(
Please?? ;)

Second Infraction: 3 week suspension from board. 3 month probation after suspension. Next offense during probation --> 3 month suspension.

Fourth infraction: One year suspension from board. 3 month probation after suspension. Future infractions: repeat fourth infraction notice.
Gee Wally. Just finished my 90 days of PROBation. I'd like to personally thank the wonderful moderators for taking me back to grade school where you get sent to the principal's office for posting a picture of a native flowering plant on a piece of equipment (175g banshee) that our sports #1 manufacturer/contributer printed!
Quick question to the powers that know: If i have another "accident" will i be put on probation again for 90 days, or will i go straight to principal's office and get 3 months Suspension?
You would start back over with a new probation period.

Mods,
Since it would be difficult to post the accuser's name along with the poster being accused, is it possible to have someone do a review of the list of posts being reported as objectional and see if maybe there is one or two problem reporters? You know those who just scan the board looking for infractions, the MB vigilante police. While I agree we need to be able to report posters who cross the line, maybe there are some who are a little too quick to report. If a pattern is noticed, maybe it can be curtailed without bringing down the whole DISCussion Board.
Since you won't post the accuser's name for fear of retribution :p , can you tell us if there is one or more posters (regular members and admin. posters as well) who have reported more posts than anyone else? I was looking through the Who's Online list a minute ago and saw that one of our moderators (using their regular account) was "Reporting A Post" or "Notifying the Moderator" or something like that. Do any of our moderators have more instances of reports than anyone else? It may seem like I'm being a nuisance, but I'm seeing a trend that is disturbing to common sense people. The vigilante police mobs are possibly worse than those who commit minor infractions.

agreed. i think our current system is too prone to abuse to ignore that some people may have vendettas and be looking for anything. isn't that itself a form of retribution?
are there any users who report way more than normal? if so their reports should be considered suspect IMO.

"I was put on probation for saying, "10 or 20 IQ points?" in response to someone's question, "What am I missing here?" So that's my standard. You attack a PDGA volunteer any more vigorously than that, I'll forward your post to a moderator and remind them of what I got put on probation for. "
So instead of fighting the wrongs of this system, Bruce, you are going to go along with it? Isn't that how some of the greatest atrocities of mankind were allowed to happen? Not that this is on par with that, but come on. are we past using common sense in dealing with perosnal attacks on the board?
a humorous comment is not a personal attack. period. satire is protected as free speech in the us. i realize it isn't on this board, but maybe it should be.

I'm really happy about this message board crack-down. I'm sure that the PDGA higher-ups have nothing better to do than to rule on nearly every post on this message board. But it doesn't really go far enough. Here are some other things that should be examined to crank up the Banned-wagon.
Misspellings- We don't want potential sponsors to think (realize) that we are a bunch of idiots.
Bad grammar- Same as above
The letter "F"- I think we all know where this can lead.
Stories of cheating/theft- If sexual images or details of said are bad I'd say that posts pertaining to stealing and cheating should be scrutinized too.
People insisting the "L" means Leopard bottom - If this person can't be called an idiot there isn't any justice in the world and they should be banned.
Gateway shills - I may not be joking on this one.
850 rated players giving putting advice -I think everyone except for 800 rated players can agree on this.
Mentioning beer sponsors - Drinking is evil. That's why we had prohibition people!
Religion (or non-religion) of any kind - I think a war was started over this once.
Criticizing authority - The Germans got this right.
People needing to see a smiley-face to know if someone is kidding -I have a few people to nominate for banning because of this one. I am still really shocked when I'm taken seriously. On an average day only about 10% of what I say should be taken seriously and Im disappointed if no one laughs the rest of the time.
Let's take care of those items and things will be great. Non PDGA members looking at this board will think that the "A" in PDGA stands for Amish.

I have been posting here for years and usually completely avoid all the "personal attack" diatribe, but this is one of the funniest and innocuous posts I've ever read and does worlds more in communicating the current state of affairs than the more straight up adolescent, cliche, anti-establishment banter that usually goes on here. Great post! :D

Wouldn't it depend on where you started from?
I mean if I said so and so is down 10 or 20 IQ points but they started at 200 then that'd hardly be a cut. On the other hand, If I said someone was down 10 or 20 IQ points and they started at 50, well, that's a whole different ball of ear wax.
Are we allowed to say ear wax?
