A few interested folks have expressed curiosity about the youth committee. To hopefully answer some of the questions I`m posting the committee charter along with some specific goals.
Purpose of this committee
1.)Create,develop,improve,and maintain programs designed to increase youth involvement in Disc Golf and the PDGA.
2.)Insure continuity in dealing with youth programs.
3.)Monitor,guide,and assist in promoting youth/age based division play.
4.)Co-ordinate with other PDGA committees and departments including education and marketing.
Specific goals include:
Further develop contact and co-ordination with EDGE.
Put together a marketing presentation highlighting the benefits of Disc Golf(as it applies to youth development).
Contact youth organizations and assist in designing Patch or Badge programs to meet each organization`s requirements.
Develop a general program outline and Disc Golf teacher assistance packet for summer youth programs.

I`m sure that many more ideas will be presented that have more merit than these.Unfortuneately we need people to help implement the ideas as well as think of them.Want to be involved? This is a great opportunity to Grow our sport from the roots up. I hope this helped answer a few questions Ron

I know I'm personally interested because we have a 9 hole course right behind an elementary school, but there is no disc golf program. I just dont see the point of those 9 holes if we arent teaching the kids the game.

I am working to get three 9-hole courses installed on property adjacent to schools here in the next year or so. A format that was designed for scholastic competition could be very helpful.

The closest we have to scholastic programs are the high school's disc golf clubs. I volunteer to help out with their programs, and help run the high school challenge, but the clubs are only truly active when the tourney roll's around and I would def. like to see this become a weekly sporting event like football and basketball between the varying high schools.

I am planning a course next to a middle school. If the school had an EDGE program, maybe the kids could play after school or have a disc golf club. Its hard to find the money for the baskets. I have found plenty of help to build but no $$$ for 18 baskets.
