A moderator pointed out to me that the discussions on posting rules and issues therein hit home with the moderators. It all too often feels like they are being punished for doing their jobs. I thought it should be made clear that the issue here isn't the moderators. It's the rules structure. Our moderators do a thankless job that no one really wants to do. My druthers would be that the rules structure be changed and that the moderators be given a nice gift. Of course we can't do that (give them a gift) but we can remember that they work incredibly hard.

I couldn't agree more. I have respect for anyone who volunteers their time to an organization they belive in in order to keep it functioning.
In many ways, I see the job of the moderators here much as I see the job of law enforcement officials. I think the job they are doing is the wrong one, but I thank them for doing it. It's not their fault that the rules are in place, but it's their job to enforce them no matter how illogical and nonsensical I think they are.

Amen.
As Communications Director, I have always felt that the criticism directed toward the monitors is better directed toward me, as I am the one most responsible for implementing message board policy.
