Two items:

Clarification on bag tags. Current members must renew ($15) to receive their bag tag. Think of it this way, you get a tag for renewing this year instead of a list of the meeting dates and work days. :)

Two: I am second guessing our decision to install the "ash trays" as I don't know if we can keep up with the trash! Also DP told me he had to extinguish a smoldering fire in one due to someone throwing their butt in on top of the trash. Thoughts?

I think too many people are using them as trash bins and they're filling up every 2-3 days. Maybe a BUTTS ONLY sign on each bucket and see if that helps.

Fig and crew have already planned to paint them and add sign. I just don't know if it will be enough. Hole 6/4 is a perfect example, ppl put trash in the "ash tray" on 6 instead of walking 7 more feet and putting their bottle in the trash can.

maybe we should move the trash can closer to the ash trays :D

CLARIFICATION
I made a mistake, all current members (listed previously) are GRANDFATERED in and will receive their respective tag this weekend or when you see DG. BUT, it is time to renew for '08 and the cost is $15. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

I noticed a few buckets overflowing with trash today...It looks pretty bad. 7's was full with garbage all around it, but thats better than it scattered over the course. I will make more of an effort to keep them clean when I am out there. As long as they stay emptied out, it shouldn't be an issue...I wonder if we could get some type of recycling bins. If anyone thinks that is a good idea, I could try to work on that...I try to be "green"...except for the huge van. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i agree, we are doing a great job stopping the trash, but there is only so much we can do and only so much we can get out there... i think if we approached the county about adding in more trashcans along the course... even if they provide the bags and bins and we tie the bags up and maybe place thenm in a central location to be picked up on whatever days.... I mean why would the county argue with us trying to keep litter out, especially if they look at what we have done so far.

Who volunteered for 7 thru 9? The buckets are becoming more trouble than they're worth.

what are the reasons for only two trashcans? as far as i know the only reason for the lack of trashcans is that the county apparently won't bring more out there. we could put them on 2,7,9,10,11,14 and not have far to get them to the edge of the road. then people could use the buckets for butts.

i think it is more of a case of they do not want to walk into the woods to empty them. doesn't make sense to me becasue it is the community service dregs that empty the cans a majority of the time anyway. i will e-mail neal to get his thoughts on the subject and post his reply next week when he gets a round to replying :D

We do not want to have trash cans out on the course. That is a maintenance nightmare - and a magnet for rodents, insects, etc. We need to place smaller cigarette butt receptacles at the beginning holes and post "NO SMOKING" signs. We don't want to encourage smoking in the woods - especially in these times of severe dry conditions.

DP (#4), DG (16) &amp; myself (15) had a challenge (Buckhorn) and everyone retained their respective tag.

I'm still holding tag #8 however.......Fig lost his #7 to someone the other day and has now challenged me for mine.

D'cun, you actually gave me a very good idea. Let me see what I can do on the website for having people post thier own tag numbers as they change hands. It would be an interactive screen with a pull down menu for plugging in your tag number. I would volunteer to do the numbers myself but with 50 tags floating around and changing hands on a weekly basis would be way too much to handle. I'll do some brainstorming.

UPDATE: After a little research, I found that through Frontpage (Current web page software) this will be a pain if it can be done at all. This will be possible and easily done through Dreamweaver which I will be switching over to in the near future. Boz and I have discussed creating a whole new NHDHGC page in Dreamweaver. I guess I now have a more valid reason for making this happen. Stay Tuned.

That was a blast. Between the membership drive and the tag challenge, I had a ton of fun yesterday. After my bout with pnuemonia over the holidays, it was good to finally get back out to the course.

DP, Fig and I had a fun challenge today. I was able to hold off DP's 59 with a 56. D played really well except for his 6 on hole 15. Fig shot 70. Scuba watched the back nine and then I think they all were going to play again afterwards...?

Man we had a battle royale yesterday for the #5 tag (Christian). He and I (#11) played to a tie, both shooting 60's, so he retained. Then DP, GabeStone, Christian and I had another battle, into the darkness, with DP taking the #2 with a 59, I shot another 60, C-63 and Gabe with 68 maybe? Good times!

FYI-IF memory serves me right. Don't need playoff to decide in ties, the rules state the next lower tag goes to the holder of the lowest tag when the challenge began. Correct?

The tie to the better tag holder rule works great for PDGA or monthly tag rounds...but out on a tuesday afternoon or something, I'm always going to want a playoff.
