I am involved in the formation of the Senior Disc Golf Association. The primary purpose of the "SDGA" is to promote the sport among age-protected PDGA members (amateur and professional, male and female). The SDGA will be involved in educational, organizational and promotional activities. The association will be in its formative stages during 2008, but will offer some programs on an experimental basis during that year. One of these is the Senior Foundation Grant program, designed to support PDGA sanctioned events that offer good value to age-protected professional players.

Senior Foundation grants of at least $500 will be made to selected A-Tier events in 2008. Any A-Tier event is eligible, but preference will be given to events that meet one or more of the following criteria:
1) The event is on the Senior Tour.
2) The event has a history of offering the "over-50" professional divisions.
3) The event offers good value to "over-50" professional players in 2008.

Events that receive Senior Foundation Grants must agree to distribute added cash according to either "Plan A" or "Plan B". In the following discussion, a "division" must have at least four players.

Plan A: The event distributes added cash to all divisions proportionately, on a per-capita basis. In this case the grant funds are distributed to all divisions (including Open) on the same basis.

Plan B: The event has at least a 120% payout to all age-protected divisions (including Masters). In this case the grant funds augment the purses of the "over 50" divisions, on a per-capita proportional basis.

Interested TD's should contact me ([email protected]) for more information.

Play Pro again Terry but stay Am. At least this year you'll be able to get some prizes.

to Terry_Calhoun:

Here are some things I have in mind for age-protected amateurs:
1) Promote their interests, both to the PDGA and to TD's who offer their divisions.
2) Publish a periodic newsletter, part of which would be dedicated to their concerns.
3) Coordinate amateur play at important events, in much the same way that we coordinate the current professional Senior Tour.

Is the SDGA associated with the PDGA?

to exczar:

There is no formal connection at this time, but it is possible that one could develop in the future.

The SDGA has no intent to develop its own sanctioned events. It will generate support in various ways for PDGA events that offer good value to age-protected players. It may define points-series competitions at certain PDGA events, and it may award prizes for performance at PDGA events. It is oriented towards a portion of the PDGA membership, and I can see no reason why anyone would want to be part of the SDGA if they were not already a PDGA member.

Well, you are welcome to come over to discgolfersR.us (http://discgolfersR.us) and create a "club" for your group, if you want some Web space to do things in and an easy way to make announcements, etc.

Our Geezers club there (http://discgolfer.ning.com/group/geezers) has 29 members already, but there's absolutely no harm in having similar groups in that network.

Thanks, Terry. If we were further along, we would.

This is very much a work in progress. Early progress. We won't even have a membership base for quite a while. Except for the Foundation Grants we will do very little this year beyond trying to get organized. Eventually I would hope that we would incorporate as a nonprofit, but I don't want to ask members to join until I have a much clearer idea of what we are capable of delivering.
