Seeing the course concentration thread got me thinking a little. It hurts when i think so i stopped. Before i stopped i was curious as to how far is the farthest course from your zip code that is also in the same state you reside in?

I live in 76040 and would have to travel 543 miles to play El Paso's Album Park (79925)

This means that ALL of the courses in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas, Arkansas, and Mississippi are closer to my house than El Paso's! :D

The course directory will help: http://www.pdga.com/course/index.php

It's 680 miles from here (Amarillo) to Port Arthur, TX. At least that was the mileage when I went for Worlds in '94.

It's 4 miles from my house to Montiel Park DGC, in San Marcos, CA. We just installed the course last week.

It's 856 miles from my house to Joe Hamilton Elementary DGC in Crescent City, CA. Now I guess I gotta go there just so I can say I've been there. And there are quite a few golfers farther south in San Diego County who could add 30 or so miles to that.

Somehow I overlooked Cresent City. There used to be a 9 hole course in Chula Vista which is right on the Mexican border. But it's not listed and I don't know if it's there anymore.

course directory gives 742 from el paso to port arthur courses (both in texas). (really 100 miles longer)

course directory is either off or it uses "as the crow flies" mileage, because google maps gives me 834 miles from el paso to port arthur. i know going on I-10 the whole way it's over 900 miles from one border of texas to the other.

el paso is closer to los angeles than louisiana.

When I lived in Orange on the Louisiana border, I seem to recall the last little green mileage marker on I-10 was 896.

The largest exit number on I-10 in Texas is 880, and it's probably a mile or so from the Sabine River (the state line).

From 67002 the farthest course in kansas from me would be Tribune, Kansas 67879, United States
Jackrabbit DGC 259 miles (417 km)

The closest course is a 9 hole pitch and putt 12 miles away.

I'm pretty sure it's straight line distance.

I believe for the search, it's from the center of the zip code to zip code, not the actual course lat/lon if it's been entered. That could easily change distances 5 to 10 miles.

I've got courses in 7 other states closer to me than Emory VA, and I'm only in central VA. Someone in Arlington VA could hit more.

The winner of that one is probably Matmoras, PA where you cover ME, NH, VT, NY, CT, MA, RI, NJ, MD, DE, VA, WV, and plus Ontario and Quebec.

And if there were a course in SW PA, you could add OH to the list...

A fun search for number of states inbetween two courses within the same state...

79101 - Amarillo, Thompson Park.

667 miles away is Harlingen's Dixieland Park.

But closer than that are courses in:
NM, OK, KS, CO, LA, NE (closer than Waco), AR, MO, WY (closer than College Station), UT (closer than Houston), AZ, MS, SD, TN. -- 14 states.

And at 672 miles is the closest course in MN.
At 675 miles is the closest course in IL.

Its cheating but how about Barrow, Alaska.

The closest course is 687 miles!!! and the furthest in Alaska is 1019 miles.

Or you could live on Eareckson Air Base also in Alaska and you'd be more likely to throw 150 class plastic than max weight :)
