T-Towners,
What's the closest/best course to Owasso? Probably making a trip up there the last weekend of March. Any local minis going on?

Try and catch a ride down to Duncan for the Hillclimber Open. It is the last weekend of March. There are several T-towners coming.

Indeed, Duncan would be cool...if you can't do that logistically then play Blackhawk.
Dave Wise (Twoputt)
And David Pennekamp (Penny)
Both of those dudes live in O-Town a.k.a. the city with no limits...
Both are active on the board.

Duncan would be nice but there's no time for that these days. :D
Kev,
Probably only have time for 1 round; just want it to be on the locals best/favorite choice. Mohawk or Copper? Didn't realize Owasso was so close to T-Town. It seemed really far when i was a T-Town resident in the early 90's. Hope you and your fam is doing well. GO Braves!....errrrr CubS!!!!!!! ;)

Right now I am planning on a trip to Duncan that weekend. But, If you make it in to Owasso before I head out, I would be happy to show you around. And yes, Mohawk is where you should try and play...assuming the rain today doesn't wash it away.
I am sure between Wise(twoputt) and I, we can get something going.

Thanks Dave. Not confirmed yet but it is looking like Friday night (3/28) through Sunday night (3/30.) Pretty much just dropping the Mother-In-Law off so that she can spend time with her oldest daughter's fam, who just moved from Baton Rouge to Owasso. Looking forward to meeting some of you and golfing @ Mohawk (if that's the locals choice)

John I will be in town that weekend instead of going to Duncan (because I am On-Call and can't leave town). Give me a call if you want to get a round in at Black Hawk, it's a great course (challenging like The Beast in Waco). I'll PM you my number.

I think he is saying...yes I want to play.
But no I don't want to play Chandler.
Well, I might just skip this event and show you around one of the larger courses.
If you want Blackhawk I would suggest you pack your hip waders!
But there is still McClure, Dovillio, Haikey, Hunter, Riverside, Pawhuska, Muskogee, Mack Taylor...
I would think you would want to play McClure or Hunter park.
Those are both great tracks and will not disappoint.

I know but somebody has to cover Dave's back. After what you two did last year I think the OKC people might be planning some payback. On top of that we may need your lawyer skills. "My Hero" should come to Chandler. He may have played the short course before but I garrantee he's never played the alternate setup before. We definitely have some devious holes this year. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I guess i've only played the short course. I remember that when playing chandler you counted how many holes you missed scoring a birdie on. If someone said they missed 6 holes then they shot a -12. :D
Nelle, I would love to join you and others for a round while y'all are following ALL PDGA rules but most likely will opt not to as then nobody could use me as their scapegoat if needed. ;)
I have played Dovillio, Riverside, McClure, Chandler and Haikey. I am most interested in the Mohawk courses but i am also the fairest of the fair weather golfers. Golfing in [censored] up weather is not an option unless i've prepaid for a tourney that doesn't offer refunds. :D
So after scheduling a trip to T-Town a few weeks ago and finding out that y'all were headed to Duncan, and now finding out that y'all are headed to Chandler; i've come to the conclusion that y'all golf too much! :D
So there's no minis to play and fishing might be a better idea at mohawk?

I will go out to Mohawk and see if it is playable. It hasn't rained in a few days so theres a chance it is ok. Unless someone has been out there recently, maybe they could give a report.

Forecast for the rain is 1" or more, at lest Chandler Park is not a swamp and if it floods you need to get Noah on the cell and schedule a pickup.
Breezy conditions forecast for Friday afternoon to help dry the hill top and solve the threatened fire ban.

So i had the chance to play the Blackhawk course this afternoon. What a great course......if it were dry. :DNow i get the "bring your scuba gear" comment.
My brother-in-law and 10 y/o nephew-in-law joined me for their first taste of DG. Bringing them was not a mistake, but it would've been costly if it weren't for my great sponsor.
On the first 380' hole over the pond(#8?) they lost one of my Z-Pred, ESP Forces, and old DX valk. The 2 discraft discs were lost about 10-15' out in the corner of the pond near the basket. The DX Valk was lost along the shoreline about halfway to the bucket.
The very next hole it was my turn to donate a disc in the water on the left. A little slipage on the tee and a BIG esp surge SPLASH....about 15' out and 20' short of the far shoreline.
Then on hole #14 they threw my Z-Flash and an old DX Firebird in the swamp that runs along the left side. The Flash was probably 30-50' past the short pad, and the Firebird was lost 50' or so short of the basket.
The design was great. The holes were fair and demanding. All in all it was a great time minus the 6 lost discs. If any of you locals find them, i wouldn't mind having some of them back. If not, no big deal.
Sadly, i will miss the GTO NT event due to it being on the Saturday of my daughters 1st birthday party. I really hope for the sake of the players that come to the GTO that you guys don't get ANYMORE RAIN. The ankle and shin deep water that i saw will need the entire month ahead to be rain free for the course to dry out.
Had a blast anyway shooting a 53 with a 6 and a 4....and i had to do it while watching most of my bag disappear right in front of my eyes. :D
twoputtok
Apr 21 2008, 09:42 AM
That 53 is a SOLID round no matter the conditions. The swamp on 14 ususally isn't there but with all the rain we have had, oh well. There is a good chance on your discs coming back, depending on who finds them. I'll keep an eye out for them and get them back to you if they show up.
By the way, how were the mosquitos and ticks? ;)

Yes, it felt really good especially having never seen it. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't all skill. :DI had two EXTREMELY squeky drives get all of the way to the bucket on 2 of the less than 330'ers plus i was putting better than normal. But on one of the longer wooded holes i also felt like i could've managed it better even with the initial bad kick that seemed to snowball into a 6 once i kept trying to advance. :D
The 'skeeters were bad and luckily i found no ticks on me. There were Canadian geese all over the place, that was cool. Smelled some elephant aroma on one of the holes.
I can't believe all of the damage that the ice storms created. How in the world are all of those debris piles going to be removed?
Is Redhawk in the same condition? Or is it more open? Where is it anyway? Everyone seemed to recommend Black so we were lucky driving in.....saw a basket, parked, and it happened to be Black #2. So we played 3-18 then 1&2.
twoputtok
Apr 21 2008, 04:27 PM
Red is in the open area of the park. It was damaged just as bad but has had more clean up work done.
Are you asking about the wood piles in Black? If so, those will be left up to us.

So, the mosquitos and ticks are out...but actually not too bad yet. The wind helped quite a bit with the mosquitos. There is standing water in the usual places, and some places (14) where it hasn't been until lately.
One thing I did notice is that all of the standing water has mosquito larvae in it, along with tadpoles. So, mother nature is going to help out a little with the mosquitos. One thing we might consider, before the GTO, is putting some mosquito dunks in the water to help out . The dunks are really inexpensive and really do work, as I use them in the pond and water features at my house.. Granted there is much more water out on the course, than at my house, but the dunks work.
Another thing I forgot about from last year was the grass...it is TALL in some places, and it is only going to get worse. It is actually dry enough right now to get mowers out there, but I doubt if the city is going to be able to help out with that.
I did look for some plastic as well...I found 1 disc in the lake (Forsander). I'm guessing the scavengers are frequenting the ponds, because there was nothing to be found in the normal places.
I found 5 in the swamp on 14.
It was a little strange searching through knee deep water on 14. I am sure there are more on 14, but the water is becoming stagnant and it is nearly impossible to see the bottom. I saw a caual throw in there as I was looking; I saw exactly where it went in, but couldn't find it because the water is so nasty.
This area is not going to drain. It is basically a pond now, which actually would be a neat feature if it were cleaned up. Best case scenario is to have a month with NO rain, and VERY warm temperatures to dry things out.
All in all, a really fun round. Shot a 56 with a 5; and no lost discs. Probably my "best" round out there as far as course managment goes. I was one of maybe 4-5 golfers on the course, and all of the others were casuals.
Hero: I found your red firechicken on 14, but none of the others :(.

Those dunks as you calll them aren't that cheap. I looked all over the internet and the best I could find for a 1000 of them is about $900. One tablet does about 100 sq ft.
So, looks like a work day coming up for mowers and weedeaters. If the club would rent that mower we had for worlds, you could knock out the whole thing in a weekend, with help from smaller mowers and weedeaters in the tighter areas.
