in a couple of weeks I flying into St.Louis to catch a Cardinals game at the new BUSCH. and then take a little trip around midwestern US (specifically Missouri, Kansas { KC area }, Oklahoma and Arkansas and if time allows maybe even a little Texas (a that's probally the only time one can ever use the 2 words little Texas in a sentence). My goal is to play as many courses as I can, but to play at least one course in every state of AMERICA. I'm currently up to 477 courses played in 36 states.

What I ask of the readers of this post are their favorites in these states. I've already played a few of them as my early travels took me to some of the St. Louis/ Columbia courses. i'm also asking for some advice or a heads up for courses in "iffy or BAD" neighborhoods. Are there any hidden gems that others haven't taken the time to search out and play in these states that you would recomend. also any nightly leagues I should know about? I have an idea of some courses I want to play, but it's always nice to hear from others.

Thanks for your help.

I've played the 2 courses in Little Rock, AR and the course in Hot Springs, AR.

Little Rock has 2 fun, but mostly short courses (Burns Park). One course is mostly in the woods and fairly technical, the other is set among large trees without any "rough" to worry about. IMO, they're worth playing if you're nearby, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to play them.

I would, however, go out of my way to play Cedar Glades DGC in Hot Springs. It's in the hills just outside of the historic downtown area - the entire course is hilly and covered in trees. Very technical, dual tees on most holes, several par 4s and 5s....there's one in particular that I think is close to 1000' through the woods. The only thing it's lacking is a long open bomber shot. I managed to find my way around the course my first time, but a local guide would definitely help.

Also, I've never played it myself, but I've heard nothing but great things about Horseshoe Canyon in Jasper, AR (NW Arkansas...I think).

Horseshoe Canyon in Jasper, Ark is a MUST!

By far one of the best courses you'll find in the area.
And you are just in time to catch it before it grows up for the summer. It is primarilay a winter course.

Tulsa, Ok has several to choose from also with 3-4 really good courses.

It will be hard to beat Kansas City if you go there. But even those guys come down to Horseshoe to play.

I remember reading about the Horseshoe in DGWN a few years ago, but couldn't remember the name of the course. Thanks for your help. I'll try my best to play it.

Can anyone else offer me some suggestions for some cool courses to play in this region.

what if..... the weather was bad heading west from St. Louis after the ball game on sunday. I better have a backup plan.

Any cool courses that should be played heading south on 1-55 all the way to Memphis onto Jackson, Missisisippi then west to Dallas, Texas? What's the top 5 courses in the Dallas area?

Fort Smith, Arkansas has a very nice course in Ben Geren Park, every Saturday, handicapped mini, 10:30 am tee-off,

Tilles Park is a fun 9 hole course also, Tuesday Night Doubles, 6:30 pm draw partners

Alma, Arkansas has a very nice 18 hole layout, Sunday Afternoon mini's by division, 2 pm tee-off (15 miles North of Ft. Smith)

BUT, Horseshoe Canyon is the best in the state, beautiful and demanding course

feel free to PM me for a guided tour for any of the first 3 courses

Hot Springs is a nice wooded course like Rusty P said, Russellville has a beautiful par 60 course and Lake Bella Vista (Springdale, AR) is also a very nice par 60 course

Little Rock has 2 side by side 18 hole courses, home of the 2008 Southern National Pro Championships

Tulsa is the place to hit in Oklahoma, The Lodge in Pawhuska is also great and not far from Tulsa

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm going to (attempt 2) play Horseshoe for sure. I'll give you a ring if I'm in the area for the other courses you mentioned. Can always use a guide.

peace out, Danhyzer

My top 5 in Dallas aren;'t actually in Dallas city limits...mostly just outside :)

1) Lester Lorch Park - Cedar Hill, TX (2 beautiful courses, lots of technical shots - very secluded park...pretty much DG-only)

2) Harry Myers Park - Rockwall, TX (John Houck course, beautiful / well-maintained park, several par 4s, one incredible par 5...2 sets of tees)

3) Bicentennial Park - Crowley, TX (3 sets of tees...one of the best up and coming courses around. VERY tough for the most part, but also very fair, unique elevation shots)

4) Zboaz - Ft Worth, TX (Another Houck course...has a great mix of everything you need. Lots of locals always playing...good crowd)

5) Veteran's Park - Arlington, TX (Big elevation shots! Front 9 is the best in my opion...that's where most of the elevation is)
