Another ratings update has occurred, a pleasure for some and a pity for others.
So who went where?
I know I went up to 949, and I know Travis Greenway went to 963!!! And dad had a little slip, but I think he is still doing well to be out playing and recovering his groove after three months of being on the mend.
I have been sick for three days and I know my game has already gone to trash!

So I guess accepting cash at a B tier doesn't qualify for Pro Status. That's great news!
I thought Wagle accepted sanctioned cash a couple times last year?
m_conners
Apr 28 2008, 04:41 PM
Yeah Wagle cashed 5 times last year...i guess cashing at a sanctioned tournament does not necessarily mean you lose AM status.
Pennekamp
Apr 28 2008, 04:44 PM
I think you can accept cash and play am if your rating allows, and if you are still registered as am???
I'm not Chuck though so I might be completely wrong...

This is correct, but as far as I know if you accept cash and your rating is still below 970 you cannot play any Majors (am worlds, am nationals, am world dubs etc) which is what I am interested in doing. You can however compete in A, B and C tiers. I'll do some research to find more info on it.
m_conners
Apr 28 2008, 05:04 PM
In the ratings guide I found this but it's still not specific as to what events you can play after accepting cash: Pros rated <970 may compete in select Amateur divisions at PDGA events for which they qualify.
I'll email Chuck.

Apr 28 2008, 05:18 PM
For the bigger events (majors, NT) You can only play where your rating allows... For anything else, its up to you I think.

Section 2
2.1 - G. A Player registerd as an Amateur may compete in any Pro division for they are eligible based on age and gender.
2.1 - H A player registered as a Professional may only compete in Amateur divisions in select cases.
2.3 Reclassification
B-2 An Am player is automatically re-classified as Pro when the player has accepted cash while competing in a Pro division. Accepting prizes in lieu of cash or accepting money for winning an ancillary contest, such as an ace pool does not cause a player to relinquesh his or her amateur status.
2.4 Pros playing Am
A. Pros rated less than 970 may now compete in amateur divisions offered at PDGA A, B and C Tier events, for which they qualify based on player rating, age and gender.
(1) Pro Men and Women
<970 can play advanced (MA1)
<935 can play intermediate (MA2)
<935 can also play advanced Master (MM1) if they are of masters age
<900 can play recreational
<900 can also play Advanced Grand Master (MG1) if they are of age
<800 can play novice (MA4)

Thanks, that pretty much explains it...wish it said something about majors though.
If you are automatically re-classified after accepting cash I wonder why c-dub and myself were not forced to re-classify. I renewed as an amateur this year, I think Wagle did the same. It probably has something to do with our ratings being below 970.

Apr 28 2008, 05:48 PM
I have no information on that. i was only trying to find the answer to your question.
The way I have been led to understand it, It is all depending on how you are registered. Me for an example, I registered as a Pro, so I can only go back to MA1 (advanced) since my rating is below 970 but above 935.
How you two are still showing as ams may just be an oversight on the board. I would hate to see you guys use that and then have them come back and say NOOOoooooooooooo, you can't do that. :p
The re-classification rule pretty much sums it up though.
Take cash, you're a Pro.

Yeah but your rating won't be accurate for years.
You registered in March.
What I have is what we would like to call a "true rating" a player who has had all his round rated since being in the rec division.
You got to where you are now due your play in the last few weeks, which, good though it may have been, is still not going to make your rating accurate.
Same thing happened to T-Dogg. He won his first sanctioned tournament and went straight to 963 (I was 915-920 ish). But as of this last ratings update he has fallen back to 943...
But if you keep playing like you were this weekend, all that rating will do is go up.
Feldberg told me that he just tries to play above his rating.
Take that for what its worth....he is 1039 rated now...Climo is 1035.

Slack, you have had a steady climb up the points ladder until these last ratings this year.
7/05 832
9/05 +3 = 835
12/05 +29 = 864
12/06 +35 = 899
11/07 +10 = 909
4/08 -2 = 907 ;)
