Hello all
I am new to the game (started playing last summer) and have decided that I need to get lessons to improve further (the guys I play with are at the same level as me and don't seem to be in any hurry to get better). I would be willing to pay for lessons if necessary. PM if you are interested. thanks

Just come to a monthly or a PFDS event and someone would be more than willing to help you out. No need to pay a yinzer for that. Come to Knob Hill Course Championship. Check it Out.

2008 Knob Hill Course Championship ~ Sunday, June 1
The PFDS proudly presents the Course Championship at Knob Hill Community Park in Warrendale, PA. This one-day, 2-round tournament is the place to be on Sunday, June 1! Trophies will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners of each division and there will be lots of great CTP prizes for the players. This event is a fund raiser and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the upcoming Scholl's Bicycle Center Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open. Last year this tournament raised $695.00!

Play in virtually any organized PFDS event - random draw doubles, monthlies, PDGA-sanctioned events, etc. and everyone you are playing with will likely offer tips and pointers for free.

thanks for the advice guys. Still new to the game so I don't know any of the better players. I want to get better but I am also afraid of showing up and being the worst one there. Was really hoping for some one on one instruction without the pressure of a competition.

worst one there, look at it this way... We ALL were the newbie worst-playing yinzer at some point. Playing with people that are more skilled than yourself is one of the best ways to watch better form and pick up on things you may not be doing or things you are doing that maybe you shouldnt be.

competition. ha. monthlies and weekly doubles are all about FUN and some SLIGHT competition. Am's play for plastic so the pressure is H-U-G-E, let me tell you. ;)

as was said before, come out to any PFDS event and I'm sure pointers will be made available to you and, as was the case with myself, you will see improvement. sometimes its a large burst (as is typical at first during initial learning curve) and sometimes it will be subtle, but, you will see it.

oh, and if you do not already do this on your own, drop the first 125 bills you get extra into a portable basket (Mach Lite is the best IMO) and throw 100 putts a day. see how fast that helps your game...

Your best bet is to come and play in our league events. Skill level does not matter at all. We are always looking for more players to come out and play with us. Just by coming to these events, you will learn to play better, learn what is really going on with the Pittsburgh disc golf scene and you will meet some great people.

That would be your best start.

Yes.....come play in some of the local PFDS league events. Tuesday night doubles at Knob Hill is a great place to play as amateurs/beginners are paired with pro/advanced players to make the competition more fair. If there are not enough pro/advanced players to balance out the mix, two amateur players that get paired up receive a 3-stroke handicap. In fact, an amateur team won doubles last night over two pro/am teams.....big money, too! :D

Wednesday night league is offered at Schenley Park and this is a handicap format. Once players have played in three events, their handicap is established and it is often that a handicapped player ends up winning those events. This is the only handicap league run on a weekly basis and it is quite popular, drawing 20 to 25 players each Wednesday night!

Our three monthly tournaments at Knob Hill, Deer Lakes and Moraine State Park offer divisions for all skill levels. If beginning players or a group of friends want to show up and play on a card together, the tournament directors will be more than happy to try and accommodate that request. Check the PFDS Event Calendar for dates and times.

I would definitely encourage any player to come out to the Scholl's Bicycle Center Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open on June 28-29. This is our club's premier event and we will have many of the world's top players competing for their respective titles. You can learn a lot by simply watching the different player styles and techniques. I've been playing for 17 years and I still enjoy watching the top dogs in the game. The pros will play Moraine State Park on Saturday (6/28) and Knob Hill on Sunday (6/29). Mark your calendar and plan to spectate if you are not going to play.
